      A way that I found works well is to cut along that pencil line with a sharp utility knife- then when staining, carefully bring your wet brush up to the cut with each color, and the color will not cross the cut line. You get a very sharp separation line of the two colors.

    Hey, thanks for this great video. I'm just starting making flags and crosses. I'm using 1 inch PVC, for starters as my son gets some extra pieces from work.
    I noticed you're using 2x10's, wow that must be a heavy flag.
    I use a metal template and use a 106 as well but I use the cone shaped piece that can be adjusted.
    Since we prefer paint instead of stain my only problem is not having crisp edges on the stars
    We also like the PVC because it's white throughout.
    Looking forward to graduating to burning in the future.
    Just FYI, since the PVC can come in large pieces I can make the union in one piece and then add the five stripes.
    Thanks again, Robert

      Douglas Fir is a type of softwood, pine is a different kind of softwood. Not sure what's available in abundance in Italy.
      The flag is 13 pieces at 94 centimeters long for the stripes.
      The blue square is about 35x25 centimeters.
      The back supports are 48.25 centimeters in length. Adjust as necessary.
      Center on back is 47 centimeters, adjust out 1.8 centimeters on either side for center. Then 30.5 centimeters away left and right from center for the other two braces.

I sell them for 120. If you really wanted to put in the hours and you had the space for more jigs you could probably even do more. Especially if you had some extra hands. Take care and build on.

    What are the pros and cons of using wood glue between each board for added strength? I noticed you chose not to glue them.

    • @smithjoydesign
      @smithjoydesign  Год назад +1

      Hey Kevin. I have glued in between each board in the past, but I didn’t like it seeping out on the flag side after clamping it. The clean up was painful. I suppose I could do a lighter coat of glue to remedy that problem though. I found putting a heavy coat on the three back supports worked just as good for me. I have made a lot of these flags and never had any issues or complaints. I do make sure to nail every strip. I hope this helps and I do appreciate you taking the time to watch the video and reach out. Take care and build on!!
