I couldn't agree more. I've now got to the point where I only listen to Zep. I've had 'phases' with other bands over the years, but I know that they're light years behind Zep.

Yup before top 40 stopped playing long songs and just played the same thing and wouldn't play the good cuts except for the underground stations
@Edward Capobianco exactly in the early 70s played DJ at a college Station and they encouraged bootlegs and whatever we wanted so you would hear eventually ALL the album and not just the best of top 40 garbage radio

They were together 3 weeks as a group when they recorded this…in 36 hours studio time…unheard of these days!!
Unbelievable! It's all I can say while watching these live performances.
Zeppelin has been criticized by some for copying the blues... It's not fair. Of course they covered songs and were heavily influenced -- but when you listen to them, it's all love, all respect. Their music is a tribute to the blues. These guys grew up listening to every blues record they could get their hands on, and to be fair, they didn't just make a cheap carbon copy -- they took the blues, and then did it as well or better than anyone, and then took it to their own level.
Yes it is all love and respect for the Blues and Folk music, the problem is they never gave credit to the original creators such as Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, etc. When this was starting to surface I heard in an interview Robert Plant admitted at the time they thought they could get away with it.
the criticism isn't for copying, It's for not CREDITING...
and I blame Page, because to this day the guy never admitted the people they took from, NEVER.

Real music lovers don’t about all that. We need to appreciate what each great musician gives. If we worry about “credit” people will still get made that they forget to say their favorite blues music or singer or musician.

I stfg I was in love with a coworker I've known for over 2 and a half years, we showed music to eachother all the time bc we both love rlly heavy stuff metal wise and we were really close too, I asked him about Bonham bc hes a drummer and he used to be in a band and after he said "yeah I dont rlly care for Led Zeppelin but John Bonham is alright" and I was like what.. and I havent barely talked to him since bc Zep is my favorite band

@@artbagley1406 EXACTLY! ✌🏼 America was so racist back then that radio didn't promote Black music. It took the Brits to bring it back across the pond and as White boys+ being from England, they made it 'cool' enough to promote on radio. Brought ATTENTION to OUR own roots.
I'm almost 23 and they're my favorite band. Classic rock doesnt get as much recognition as it should among my generation in my opinion, it's what brought along all the other rock bands people love now a days. Led Zeppelin started a whole new thing I think and their music is just unbeatable and incomparable. I grew up listening to all kinds of music, mostly heavy bands like metal and "screamo" bands in general that go sO HARD but nothing beats the greatness of Led Zeppelin due to the fact they were way before anything else and the genius of their music cannot be replicated in my opinion. They are something so amazing, so magical and enchanting, something that is absolutely addicting and just oozes pure talent and greatness. I would give anything to be my age in the 70s, that was a time to be alive.

Led Zeppelin definitely did not invent the BLUES, but I used to always tell folks they perfected them!
They put a pasty white face on the blues which opened the door to millions of middle class white kids. Elvis did the same.
It’s unfortunate that it took this, but they get all the credit in the world for doing it.
Look up what originally influenced the blues - i think you’ll find it was centuries of ‘pasty white face’ music. 😉…. Seriously though, WHY make it about skin color 😩🤦♂️
The live performance of this from Royal Albert Hall in 1970 is incredible. Probably my fav live performance of theirs.

Gentlemen, I grew up in Cleveland during this era. So many great bands during that time. That being said, you two are the most insightful, intelligent reactors I have come across. You're reactions are truly enjoyable. But most importantly you guys GET IT. You actually get the music. Love it. Keep it up.
Bonzo The Beast! "I Can't Quit You Baby" was written by Chicago Blues great Willie Dixon and was first recorded by Otis Rush in 1956. Led Zeppelin turned up the volume on the song past eleven and dropped it as the second to last track on their debut album, right before "How Many More Times" -- another souped up blues rock banger.
You should check out Zeppelin at MSG. The concert is epic on all levels but you’ll witness Robert Plant in all his glory. He is the swag master, the ultimate front man. He slayed the women, got more bumper than a body shop, for sure!!!!!! You’ll notice the shirt he is wearing, looks like a woman’s blouse. Legend has it he would wear the previous nights conquest on stage. IDK if it’s true, but it makes for an interesting story 😉
I read that the one he’s wearing at MSG belonged to his wife.
I was 22 and a senior in college when Led Zeppelin released their first album. My friends and I had been listening to the heaviest music available at that time - Hendrix, Cream, the Yardbirds, The Who, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Stones, etc. I heard Dazed and Confused on FM radio late one night and was totally blown away by it. I bought the album the next day and we listened to it over and over and over and couldn't get enough of it. We had never heard anything like it. LZ took rock/blues to another level that's never been equaled.
Listening to Zeppelin over and over. I was a teen in the mid 70s and bought all of Zeppelin's albums to that time. Everyday I was listening to LZ whether it be a song, one side or the full album I had them on everyday.

This is a cover. It was written by the great Willie Dixon. Led Zeppelin did a lot of blues early on and throughout their career. The great "Whole Lotta Love" is a Dixon song too. Of course, Zep added their own style to these songs and their incredible musicianship and power. Classics.

This song was written by the great Willie Dixon. It's one of the many old blues tunes that Robert and Jimmy rearranged and reworked.

This song is Burlesque! And beautiful.
After each album you should check out some live performances from that album. In almost every instance the live version will be somewhat different and on a whole other level! Led Zeppelin was first and foremost a live band. Their improvisational skills are absolutely unbelievable. Jimmy Page's live solos are mind blowing!

I was 18 and living in my own house in Southern California with my husband and twin babies... Love this music!! I was not surprised to find out later that this song was from an old blues man in the deep south, USA. They were forced to give him credit on later printings of the album cover. There may also have been some money involved... 🤔🤑🤑🤑💖💋💖💋 Old southern blues men wrote some great stuff. Zep just took it to the next level! When I was 13 yrs old I heard this album playing in my older brother’s room through the wall. I would sneak in and listen when he was out. I “borrowed” it from him and still have it. He took me along to see them live when I was 15. Been enjoying your LZ reactions and your Dan reactions. ✌️♥️🎶

I think you should do a quick diversion and look at the live performance of this at The Royal Albert Hall 1970 .they perform the heck out of it, and hold the audience in the palm of their hands. This is a reworking of the song written by Willie Dixon for Otis Rush, who had been having some relationship problems. Believe it or not, not all of Zep's songs are about women. They were, however, following the usual blues theme of the "good man" being led to his doom by an "evil woman", especially on this first album until they got a little more experience and started changing things around. Another great blues song with an in-your-face them of good man/bad woman is the song Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers Band.

I got turned on to the blues from my older brothers listening to the British Invasion bands playing the blues. I was 13. Then I learned I was living 120 miles South of blues Mecca in Chicago. I've been a blues fan every since. These bands brought the blues back and really helped the American blues music scene. American blues performers might fill a club in Chicago but in Europe they could fill stadiums.
They're very influenced by the blues down in the delta Mississippi all those bands back then that's where they get this kind of stuff from and they like to mix it up they could do one song and sound like just three songs in one they switch so quick it's phenomenal the first time I saw them was 1970 Fillmore East New York

The blues came from south USA, New Orleans. Many artist from UK highly respected the Blues. Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn a few rockers that love the Blues.

Jimmy Page was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame TWICE! First w the Yardbirds then w Zeppelin. I've seen some videos that say Bonzo tried to keep up w Jimmy. Been a Zeppelin fan my whole life, I'm now 54, burnt out albums and cassettes, I've watched many videos and it's obvious. The entire band fed off of each other. Greatness.

In1964 sister Rosetta Thorpe and a number of other gospel and blues performers did a tour of England. The British tour with the American Folk, Blues, and Gospel Caravan organized by U.S. promoter George Wein. The lineup includes Muddy Waters, Chess pianist Otis Spann, and the duo Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. Blues and Gospel Train, a specially produced show based on the caravan, appears on British TV. That same year, Rosetta appears at the Newport Jazz Festival, on a program that reunites her with Count Basie. This sound was completely new to the British rock and roll fans and Ignited a revival among many of the rock 'n' roll musicians and fans. Check out Sister Rosetta Thorpe English concerts on RUclips for an example.

Led Zeppelin is the epitome of sex drugs rock n roll. That saying didn’t just come out of thin air. The number of groupies that ran with this band is uncountable.
All 4 where great in their own right. But jimmy recruited them all. It was his idea to form this band. He produced the albums. And on some of the live performances, you can see that they are following him, not exactly knowing where his wild, improvised solo was going to go. I love all of them, and think each is the best at what they do. But your right, its jimmys band!

All of those British bands *LOVED BLACK MUSIC!* They marinated on our rock & roll, blues, jazz, country, and gospel, made it their own and created something new! But as a black guy who is 62 and grew up in the 60s, 70s, and 80s the odd thing was black folks (supposedly) didn’t like rock ore weren’t *supposed* to like rock and considered it ‘headache music’ lol! But I was like, I don’t care what y’all say, this stuff is *FIRE!!*
It wasn’t until later that I learned that they got their inspiration from *US* and that made it all the more sweeter. So it is really ‘full circle’ :) … btw way, i like how you said ‘learnt’ which is British lol!
There is a great YT post of an interview with Robert Plant about the night LZ met Elvis. You gotta watch it. He specifically talks about the influence from Elvis and the delta blues.

11:00 - Yeah man, it was real Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll. Some of their stories w/ groupies are legendary. JPJ once after a gig, fell asleep w/ a groupie and a half smoked, lit joint and started a fire in their the hotel room, lucky they woke up early on and no one got hurt.
This song as well as a lot of great blues songs, was written by the great Willie Dixon, blues bassist and Chess Records studio bassist on many recordings. Zep actually got sued for not giving credit and royalties for recording other artists songs.
The original song was by Otis Rush look that up and give a listen. Led Zeppelin just cranked it up to 10

Another great tune by the late, great Willie Dixon. An amazing fact is that they only used about 36 hours of studio time to record this first album over a few weeks time while jamming a few gigs to smooth out the material.
The way you described Zeppelin as a band singing about women as the theme in their songs Is 1000% right. The stories about groupies and the band are legendary especially the Shark incident where some of the guys stuffed a groupie with pieces of a shark at their hotel.
