By going to the spotlight search and opening this application, you can manage applications that are running in the background and consuming a lot of resources. You may want to verify and end task for those programs that are idling and that you are not using.

This application helps you manage your computer fans and set custom speeds so they your macbook fans don't make a lot of noise.
Startup Programs
By going to System Preferences - Users & Groups, selecting your user and going to Login Items, you can eliminate programs that startup when your imac or macbook startup.

Thank you! I followed your suggestion, opened up the Activity Monitor and noticed the Screenshot was at the top of the list. Took me a few minutes to find the Screenshot - but when I did I deleted it - and the fan stopped! WOW. Thanks!
