I bought a turbocharged one in late '99. I really liked how it drove. However, getting on a first name basis with the Service Advisor gave it a short life with me. I traded for a Honda after the two-year warranty. Amazing how the passenger compartment held together!

I bought a New Beetle band-new in 2000. It was a perfectly competent little car and lived two full decades. I actually just rented one in Hawaii for two weeks last summer.

I will never understand their hatred for the "new" Beetle, after all it is nothing more than a rebodied Golf. . .and they love the Golf.
It's about it's image and marketing scheme, they all hate the beetle already for it's origin, as they have said on numerous occasions, so the new beetle that specifically caters to the original beetle nostalgia is even worse. They spent their life trashing both on top gear and the grand tour lol
