So nice to finally see a reviewer calling out GM for their lack of head restraints in family vehicles. It's inexcusable. You'd think it would be mentioned in safety scores but it's totally ignored which I'm sure is why GM still does it.
We bought a 2020 Expedition Max for the versatile 2nd row bench seat and it's great for our 4 kids. Having the 3 seats separate from each other and the tilting seats is a huge advantage. It worked way better than the Tahoe/Surburban 2nd row. It really is a game changer for the Expedition that no one talks enough about.

Love these types of videos! It is so nice to know what to do and how to set up your car with kids with car seats. I also love the education of safety in cars!! Thanks so much Kelly for the hacks/safety and your reviews on cars for families!
We purchased a 2019 and it's been in the shop since we've had it (only 5 months!!) TWICE for a week and a half both times. First for the cam phaser going out (warrantable, but still annoying only being 3 years old) and this time for transmission issues 😳 It has the same 10 speed transmission as the Ford F150's and apparently there's an ongoing lawsuit. We are torn on what to do because functionality wise we LOVE it! But have never had a vehicle in the shop this much until now
Forgot to mention.. speaker went out and horn also was going out. Really?! Only 3 years old. Not happy but like I said.. with 3 kids the functionality beats competition
I have a 22 expedition and LOVE IT! The bench seat is amazing with the car seat tilt with plenty of space in the third row for an adult! The only trouble I had was fitting my britax forward facing car seat in the third row. On the side seats it seems to hit the headrest in a way that keeps the carseat away from the back of the seat. Could you do a video with how you put the car seats in the third row? We ended up putting the carseat in the middle seat but then we couldn’t have two car seats in the back. 🤷🏻♀️ I called ford and they said you can’t remove the headrests on the side seats of third row. Thanks for all your honest opinions and reviews!
Mom of three here…2 front facing car seats and 1 rear facing car seat. I recently bought a Lincoln Navigator reserve, with second row captains chairs and I love it!
We have the '22 Platinum and would agree with most everything you say. I hate the screen. We've had so many issues with it, Carplay would only connect maybe 3 out of 5 times. Sometimes while driving, it would disconnect (not fun when you're in the middle of navigating to somewhere new). I posted on the Expedition forumns and someone responded with a tip that solved all my issues. Since I did this reset 2+ weeks ago, I havent had a single issue. (Touchscreen responsiveness still stinks, though). "Remove both your Bluetooth connection to the Expedition, and the Carplay connection on your phone. Remove your Phone from the Expedition screen under phone list. Reboot your Phone, and reboot Sync 2 times in a row. If you have the 4A(15Inch) screen, holding the seek right and volume down buttons on the steering wheel controls will reboot it. If you have the smaller screen, the Radio power button and the Right seek button will do it. Then do wired Carplay, and go through the setup/connect process and see if it behaves better."
Love expeditions, I’ve had two older models. We got a ‘22 KIA Carnival EX last year for the cargo space and sliding doors. It has most of the great features you talked about here and I’m happy with the technology. Just wanted to share in case anyone is car shopping, looking for the great bench seats and car seat flexibility but wants more cargo space. I know not everyone likes a minivan though. I like the lower clearance, easier for kids and pets to climb in and out, and I don’t have to lift my huge Wonderfold way up into the back.
It (Carnival) probably makes the most economical sense too. The downside is they’re not AWD and you probably can’t tow much with it compared to a full size SUV.
I'm about to get a white 2020 Ford expedition limited max. We are a family of 3 in the army. So we have family visiting often and also move often, so we need the extra room in the trunk. I also went with the bench middle row even though a lot of my friends told me to get the caption chairs. With the ability to get to the 3rd row when needed without having to remove the car seat is key and a game changer. I'm so excited! I'll miss my white Ford explorer sport for all the black exterior features making it look more sporty. But the space we will be gaining is so worth it!
Being able to get three kids into the 2nd row is *so* important and is the reason we ended up with a Suburban (Expedition was another choice.) The topic of a 2nd row bench is a pet peeve of mine - in so many midsize 3-row SUVs (Telluride, Atlas, Explorer) and full-sized SUVs (Tahoe, Expedition, Wagoneer, etc.) it is IMPOSSIBLE to buy a top-trim model with a bench seat - almost everyone forces one to forgo some technology/features to get a bench seat. So far, in terms of non-luxury vehicles, only Explorer and now the new Pilot offer a 2nd-row bench seat in their top trims. Explorer allows you to option in a bench seat, and Pilot has the clever removable center position in the 2nd row, so I could choose to have Captain's chairs or a bench. I don't know WHY in the world everyone insists on this. Make it an OPTION please, like Explorer (and maybe Expedition, I don't know since we no longer need 3 car seats in the 2nd row.) Thanks for listening if you got this far.
I agree. Honda did the second row right. It's not like it's some new idea. My parent's Lumina APV had a similar setup when I was a kid way back in 1990.
I think with suburban it’s good to get captains chairs … we considering getting gmc Denali but with captain chairs and I have 3 kids (7, 5, 3) it’s just so much better I think Ofcourse if your kid can buckle them selves is a huge plus
One of the reasons I went with the Pilot over the competition. It’s the only mid size SUV with 8 seats (bench seat in the middle) in the top trim. The removable seat adds so much versatility for when my kids get older!
Am I alone in not wanting a 2nd bench seat no matter how old my kids are? It makes the third row so claustrophobic when it already tends to be and I like being able to deal with each seat separately with car seats, etc.
Push and hold the power button for ten seconds to reset a stuck screen interface. In two years this happened to me once. Subsequent updates fixed this so it's not an issue.
Thank you! We a 2018 Buick Enclave AWD but considering a Ford Expedition because of you tour. you sold my husband and I. We always had Ram or GMC. Thinking of the kid's safety and the room. Thanks!
We ordered at 2022 Ford Limited Expedition Max in Nov 2021 and they haven’t even started on it yet 😭😭😭 snagged a 2020 to hold us over since we had twins and 2 toddlers. We need the space!!! Wish Ford could get it together!!!
Stick with the XLT trim to avoid screen issues - while she didn't want the max and I did, I didn't want the big screen for this reason (less screen, the better, imo). The XLT with adaptive cruise is also not dissimilar to BlueCruise on the freeway, just have to shake the wheel sometimes. It is COMPLETELY unjustified to buy a platinum model or spend 20K for BlueCruise.
What made you choose the expedition over the larger midsize SUVs (traverse, atlas, etc). Trying to decide on midsize vs large SUVs. Also, with the expedition, can you remove any of the middle row seats? Do they come out? Also seems like you find some items that aren’t good about this vehicle, like you’re not completely in love.
Starting to like our 2019 Honda Odyssey EXL even more after seeing you with 3 car seats in this suv. We have sliding seats, tons of cup holders, cargo room etc. The glitchy infotainment was my final decision to not look any further into this suv, not being able to control AC would be a huge issue in Texas, especially with kids.
You have been a saving grace with your reviews! Congrats on baby #3! We have been car shopping since we had our twins last year and working on baby #3, you have made this an easy decision. Thanks for these!
Oh also - you will have your 4 year old still rear facing? What car seat is that? My 1 year olds are 38 inches long and seem really uncomfortable rear facing in their graco 4ever extended
@@sydneythomas1811 hi, thanks for your response. I am aware of the requirements but 4 years old is quite awhile which is why I asked what carseat she’s using. My 1 year olds have maxed out the height but I won’t put them forward facing.
@@misharofraser7659 if they've maxed out height it's no longer safe to be in that seat and you'll need new ones. The graco extend to fit has the highest height and weight limit rear facing. I'd check that one out.
Team bench seat here too. That really limits the 3 row options especially if you don’t want a base model. I just got a top trim new Pilot just for the reason I could get all of the features I wanted with a bench seat!
I love my 22 limited max! I got the smaller screen so that I'd have the climate control outside the screen! I also got a bench but I put my 2 older ones (7 and 5) in the 3rd row and my 3 year old behind the passenger! This is my most favorite car I've ever had
Can you PLEASE do a review on the explorer vans? Like the ford transit explorer van or the Chevy express explorer?! We can’t decide between the Rivian, explorer, or extended gmc Yukon ultimate.
Mom of five and former expedition owner. They’re a great truck! If your seat locks when folded on the bench, I’d strongly consider leaving one seat folded and training your older boy to buckle himself and sit in the rear. You’ll avoid kids climbing over each other and some spats. I know it’s a safety concern, but he may be able to go forward facing or in a booster soon. I’m 5’11, so I understand the pain of climbing in and out of a third row, but I think it might work better for you most of the time, except for those Costco/ ikea hauls.
Yes @katie smith, that’s what I meant. Even to get in the car with all children in car seats in one row, they’ll have to climb over each other. If she can get one into the third row, she’ll avoid the climbing issue, and she could also put the new born in the middle, which is technically safest anyways.
@@farmereliza770 I see what you're saying, but I'm pretty sure she wanted the bench so she had all the cargo space in the rear without having to have both seats up.
So you like the cup holders and bench seat…and pretty much nothing else about it 😅. For the first 10 minutes of the video I’m sitting here wondering why did you buy this.
She also explained in this first 10 minutes of this video that it is hard to find an Expedition with a bench seat. You take what you can get in this market
😂 love the cup holders, let me tell ya give it a few months. The bottom of mine fell out, look the problem up on the internet. Also the 3.5 with the phase cam sensor issue will continue to haunt the expedition owners. Ford needs to get control of the reliability and quality control.
As a mom of 3, all 16 months apart, you are on the right track! Bench seat while they're young, and then captain when they start to get bigger. They fight too much, and you will want the separation. I love being able to have the additional trunk space when they are all in the front, and hate having to lose it now that we have a 4th on the way. I still haven't found the car I want for family of 6, but your videos help SO much. Can you please review the Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 4 matic??? That's on the list, since it's not so huge, like the expedition, yukon, tahoe.
You’re right about them fighting more the older they get. My 8 and 12 year old are fighting constantly in the car now, but at the same time crave each other’s attention. My 4 year old said she wanted the car with cool doors, but unfortunately she wasn’t thinking of the Tesla model X, it was a minivan with sliding doors 😄
I have a 22 explorer with a similar screen and have the same issues with the climate controls, just the rear are in the screen, etc being inaccessible sometimes because of how laggy the system is. Its obnoxious how bad the car's computer is but I love the car.
I love LOVE this review. I rented a 2022 Expedition over the summer and fell in love with it. It had Captain’s chairs and I was like sold! BUT I then had safety concerns for that empty space in the middle… but was still reluctant about a bench seat for leg room for my special needs kiddo (still in a car seat). Well this review just sold me on the 2022 Expedition’s bench seats. I’ll also opt for the non-iPad style screen infotainment system. This will be my next vehicle!
I love the Expedition! With 4 boys and littlest a girl we wanted a good adventure car that could carry us all. Mines 2021 in the antimatter blue color. Kids love it, I feel great not having a van anymore haha, and the hubby can do all his off road stuff so win win for this car it's been great for us. Congrats on your pregnancy and new Expedition!
I have the Mach-e with that screen. Biggest thing with CarPlay issue, you have to make sure your phone is updated software. I’ve noticed with my issues it’s always my iPhone needs an update.
Thank you so much for the review. Being able to comfortably fit 3 across and still have access to the 3rd row or having that 3rd row completely down is such a big luxury that few people understand. The glitchiness of the screen is a great catch, good to know that the downgrade is actually the more reliable option.
From your other reviews, you seemed to favor the Volkswagen Atlas. Interesting seeing this review, I get the impression you are ok with it but not necessarily in love with it...
I live in Las Vegas and alot of people tell me about the problems of the screen in the heat. Especially if you are parked in the sun and the interior gets hot.
I don't know why these men even watch if they just want to find something negative about you anyway 😂 at least they're helping the algorithm lol. Love the video and the car! You've convinced me this is what I need in a few years!
Now that you have 3 kids, do you want the max? I’m a mom of 3 and really aiming for the max. My double Bob stroller wouldn’t fit in that trunk with anything else.
One of my complaints with Ford is with Screen Freezing. I have a 21 ST and actually recorded the freeze to show to Ford. They say it’s a software issue… Maybe one day Ford will fix this issue.
Our newest vehicle is closing in on 10 years old. Our other one turned 20 this year. We're thinking about buying a newer one, but this everything-on-the-screen stuff scares me to death...
We feel the same about the expedition. The interior is great, but the outside is meh. I have one in a harness, one in a booster, and the other out of a car seat (12), but they do still like to seat together, so a roomy third bench is a must. Too bad we can’t afford one at this time. Curious on your thoughts between the expedition and the Chevy traverse, which as you’ve stated is the biggest mid size SUV. Great job once again on the review.
All 3 kids wouldn’t fit in the 3rd row of the traverse unfortunately. But they would in 2 row bench. We test drove the 2020 traverse and actually had one as a rental, and it’s pretty darn nice. We really liked it. But nothing compares to the palisade or telluride honestly. Soon as these crazy prices and interest rates drop we’re getting a palisade.
If the screen glitches you can reset it from the steering wheel by holding the “volume down” and “next track” buttons for 6 seconds. The screen will reset and come back to life instantly!
I'm in Canada and I've had a 2020 Ford Expedition Platinum Max for 4 years now. My kids are 11, 7 and 5....so finally all out of car seats! My oldest has always sat in the back row while his younger siblings were in car seats in the captain seats. Having the bench in the second row was never something we wanted, as tilting the captain seat with a carseat and a child strapped in is not an option. Often times we are picking up our oldest or dropping him off....I'm not about to unbuckled a 2 year old baby in minus 40 so that my older child can get in and out of the vehicle. So the bench to me is very much an inconvenience. I also don't want my kids sitting three in a row...as all they will do is fight. If they can touch each other....they be fighting!
“It’s not going to easy but we’ll make it work” she says about loading 3 kids into 3 car seats lol. This highlights the lengths people will go to NOT buy a minivan. Buying $75,000+ impractical suv instead of a $41,000 minivan that would be better in every way (except looks). Minivan has much more flexibility for seating with stowable/removable seats, sliding doors give easier access, lower loading height for kids to climb in (watching my kids climb into my impractical suv it’s like their summiting Mt. Everest), more interior room for passengers while still having cargo room, power sliding and hands free doors, flat floor inside the vehicle so you can walk around buckling your kids into car seats while inside the van (not standing outside in the freezing rain while your 3 year old refuses to go into their car seat), and better gas mileage. I’ve recently given up on SUV’s and trying to be that cool parent with too much self respect to be seen driving a minivan. They’re too practical and comfortable to continue to deny myself of them because of looks. Plus most people who refuse to buy a minivan and up getting something nearly as uncool like a Hyundai Palisade or a Subaru Ascent. At least car mom did it right, if your going to buy an SUV get an Expedition or a Tahoe or something cool and massive.
Best comment I’ve read so far. I agree with you 100% ... personally I’m torn between Honda Odyssey and Ford Expedition. I think the Odyssey is better in every way for my family. Biggest downside is safety. I must put my kids in the 3rd row, but I’m not comfortable putting my kids in minivans 3rd row seat being so close the rear bumper. If we ever got rear ended the 3rd row will be crushed, unlike the massive tank the Expedition is, which seems much safer.
@@user-dl6tb3ck9z All jokes and sarcasm aside you will be very happy with either one. I would love to drive an Expedition one day, as they are one of my favorite vehicles. Can you do three kids/carseats across in the Odyssey so you don't have to use the third row? You bring up a good point about rear crash safety. After you mentioned it I looked at a bunch of vehicles on the road quite differently! So many vehicles have no rear crumple zone! And it's not just small cars like a VW Golf or mini Cooper, it's sooooo many cars and crossovers where the second row seats are literally inches away from the rear bumper. Same applies to most 3 row crossovers where the third row is too close to the rear bumper. I feel like there's a decent amount of rear crumple zone with minivans when compared to all these small cars and crossovers that I see everyday. But other than that you need a tank of an SUV like you mentioned or even better a pick up truck lol!
@@user-dl6tb3ck9z Also I should have mentioned the Kia Carnival has 3 individual seats in the 2nd row that can all independently slide forward and backward and can be staggered however you want to be able to fit 3 car seats in the second row. It also looks like the resale value on the Carnival is super high, so you could buy one today and sell it in 3 years for almost what you paid for it new
Congratulations!! I just had my third, huge surprise she was 😮. But I have a company car a Subaru Outback. Great because it’s free, but annoying because I’d kill for a third row 😢
Just watched your GMC Denali review from 1 year ago and I wanted to see what you drive personally and look perfect video lol but so far this ford expedition is Deff not a competition to GMC Denali lol like the climate control is HUGE problem ! The step is glitching that’s a big no no. After watching this and that video I Deff think GMC Denali is my choice :) but to each it’s own :)
We use to love our Ford... but our 2017 Raptor, transmission was so bad that i couldn't take it over the highway without it overheating. Our 2019 Expy experienced transmission issues again..... It was a stealth edition and we coulnd't take it to the mountains.. again tranny overheating. that 10 spd is awful... all under warranty.. but couldn't depend on it....
Do you feel like this rides bumpy? I’m coming from a bmw x7 to this. Had an at4 before that and didn’t think it was comfortable. I love my expedition except for the bumpy ride. Maybe the 22s are to blame?
I rented one expedition last month, the second row seat is atrocious. The floor is so high and the seat is so uncomfortable since the seat is rather low to the floor and your keens are high up.
How do you find a Ford expedition limited with a bench seat? It’s impossible unless I build it and wait a year for it to come in. Any advice? Ford inventory searches have been useless
I have question: I noticed you will be putting your newborn on an end seat instead of the middle. I am about to get the expedition Thursday and curious why you chose the outer? I though the middle was the safest for the youngest I have a 6 4 and 2 year on. ( 2 is still rear facing) HELP this mama out. How would you set them up in the bench?
Yes the middle is safer for a newborn I’m pretty sure it has to do with accessibility. The newborns car seat can easily be removed out of the base giving her the access to the car seat in the middle.
Ironically continental tires is sponsoring this video because that's the only thing I've had issues with on my 22 expedition stealth performance. I love the car but the tires vibrate to the point I wish I had stayed with my f-150 platinum. if you know someone I can talk to about it plug me in cause my service department is tired of seeing me.
ruclips.net/video/PpmFNrvleWs/видео.html I thought you were asking if you could keep them out not in. I’m sorry. Here is the how to video. If you try to keep them out they default back to Auto after you start driving.
Been watching for a while now. You kill me “which has been a little disruptive to my life style” 😂😂😂 I come for your commentary.

You should also do a comparison video with this expedition against the Yukon or wagoneer
@@brett233 1,000% !!
Thanks!
Volume button push down while fast forward button to the right. Keep both pushed for 10 sec and the system reboots without turning off the car
Terrific 2022 Ford Expedition Stealth and it goes from 0-60 and it’s “Mom’s Kids Taxi” or Mom’s Shuttle Service”
Great job! I’m not a parent, but I enjoy hearing your perspective.
I’m so glad I found you ! I’m obsessed, thank you girl ❤
@@misharofraser7659 looks like she has clek foonf and Flo for her older kids.
Definitely should’ve gotten the Yukon or Yukon Denali! Love mine so much.
Congratulations on your pregnancy & God bless!
I'm a huge Yukon fan but I absolutely love the exterior of the Expedition. The front grill actually looks really nice and streamlined to me
Team bench seat here too. That really limits the 3 row options especially if you don’t want a base model. I just got a top trim new Pilot just for the reason I could get all of the features I wanted with a bench seat!
Mom of 3 (soon 4) and thanks! I’m always worried about traveling with a family of 6 and everyone having luggage!
You probably need a long wheelbase max version.
Seriously impressed with how much space in between the car seats and also in between the car seats and front seat.
I'm short an love the power running boards, they can be turned off if you don't want to use them.
Why would anyone need to climb over one another with the tilt seats to get into the third row? Or maybe I am not getting what you’re saying
@@Throowback I think she means the kids climbing over each other, like if only the middle kid needs to get out of the car.
Yes @katie smith, that’s what I meant. Even to get in the car with all children in car seats in one row, they’ll have to climb over each other. If she can get one into the third row, she’ll avoid the climbing issue, and she could also put the new born in the middle, which is technically safest anyways.
@@farmereliza770 I see, my oldest goes in the middle and seems to enjoy crawling out below the side seats lol so I haven't run into that issue
@@farmereliza770 I see what you're saying, but I'm pretty sure she wanted the bench so she had all the cargo space in the rear without having to have both seats up.
Pro tip: you can still use voice commands to set cabin temperature.
What are your top 5 suvs for a family of 5?
So you like the cup holders and bench seat…and pretty much nothing else about it 😅. For the first 10 minutes of the video I’m sitting here wondering why did you buy this.
She also explained in this first 10 minutes of this video that it is hard to find an Expedition with a bench seat. You take what you can get in this market
That's as in-depth as she gets in her reviews.
I totally agree
You can never know what's important with pregnant women. Other than that she was already biased because she owned it.
This is the car I need, though with the max. We have 5 kids. 3 in car seats. Youngest is 3 months.
I have a 22 explorer with a similar screen and have the same issues with the climate controls, just the rear are in the screen, etc being inaccessible sometimes because of how laggy the system is. Its obnoxious how bad the car's computer is but I love the car.
Nice job ! However, I like the Sequoia better
Congrats on the 3rd kid!!! Best wishes!!
Exactly the next car is like, done to color and trim with stealth. Even skipping the max for the reason you mentioned…
Congratulations on baby #3 coming!! 🎉
long-term is 10 years. i like bench seats. great family car.
Love our expedition for the length (MAX) and seat flexibility on that second row.
Push and hold power button on screen to restart/reboot the screen…??? Worth a try
Love your channel and your commentary so much 😆😆 PLEASE do a Clek review!!!!
I still have my 2009 Expedition. Great car..and yes bench is the way to go.
FYI you can disable the running boards through your infotainment
From your other reviews, you seemed to favor the Volkswagen Atlas. Interesting seeing this review, I get the impression you are ok with it but not necessarily in love with it...
I have the 2022 Timber Line addition. My tablet screen has not worked 3 times on me so far. I have not taken it in Ford yet.
I live in Las Vegas and alot of people tell me about the problems of the screen in the heat. Especially if you are parked in the sun and the interior gets hot.
I have a 2020 expedition, does anyone else’s Expedition clunk in stop and go traffic or is always in the wrong gear around 30 MPH
Great job once again on the review.
curious also. I have a 2009 traverse I really like. I want to update and not sure what I want.
The best mom car IMO
It also looks like the resale value on the Carnival is super high, so you could buy one today and sell it in 3 years for almost what you paid for it new
Any chance to get an update on this after the baby? It looks like you no longer have it (based on the Kia carnival video)
This is my dream car! Hope you’re feeling good!
CONGRATS on the next addition!
Of course grandpas going to deliver if able! Grandpas always deliver! 😆
Will you do an F350 please?!? Want to do three across in the back but can't find if all the seats have the anchor?
Congratulations!! I just had my third, huge surprise she was 😮. But I have a company car a Subaru Outback. Great because it’s free, but annoying because I’d kill for a third row 😢
Can you fit 3 across in the outback?
Just watched your GMC Denali review from 1 year ago and I wanted to see what you drive personally and look perfect video lol but so far this ford expedition is Deff not a competition to GMC Denali lol like the climate control is HUGE problem ! The step is glitching that’s a big no no. After watching this and that video I Deff think GMC Denali is my choice :) but to each it’s own :)
Love watching your tours! So much great Expedition info!!

Is there an update video yet for this after the baby? I’m curious
6:45 and that's why certain features need to be real buttons. I've never had a failure of my climate control with button controls.
How has the experience been for you so far and do you still have it?
First thing comes first: I really like your outfit, beautiful.
Update: my wife and I totally hate this big screen. 🤝 Really hard to target your finger during the driving and it moves your driving focus.
My screen glitched once too but it powered off and back on by itself within 20 seconds.
Can you compare the expedition with the Tahoe for a family?!
Nice review keep up the good work car mom
Personally, I think the only thing the Ford has over the Chevy is the V6 fuel efficiency. Other than that, Tahoe/Suburban all day
Is it normal to have a 3 year old rear facing? Like my two year old has her legs squished if she rear faces. I didn’t know this to be the case.
How did I not know about baby #3!? Congrats!
Love your video's can you please do a Mercedes GLS
I like the car and all but why aren’t you filming in 4K or at least in 1080 HD?
13:02 - Is there a way to override the power running boards? So that they don’t come out if you don’t want them to.
On my 2020 there is a setting in the dash screen to be auto out, off, or out all of the time. So yes.
ruclips.net/video/PpmFNrvleWs/видео.html
I thought you were asking if you could keep them out not in. I’m sorry. Here is the how to video. If you try to keep them out they default back to Auto after you start driving.
