    As with my experience they look amazing and yours is great. The customer service I received however required escalating massively and resulted in me not wanting to repeat the mistake of buying from them again. I advise everyone I meet to steer clear as well.

      I didn't do any research with the brand before I bought, probably because I was buying the rallygraf and it was a low amount of money to risk. Anyway, it came with a scratch on the side casing. I went through the website live chat and they took the watch back and replaced it. Really smooth service. Then I read up all the bad reviews and seems like my experience was in the minority. Put me off cos I might not be so lucky next time. I like the watch tho and more confident in its longevity due to it having a Seiko movement and not yema in-house stuff.

    I was really excited about Yema a year ago. I bought four of them, including a Speedgraf chronograph which still holds the record for the most I've ever spent on a watch. But I've had so many truly horrendous interactions with their customer service department that it's really soured my enjoyment of the watches themselves. I'll be selling all but one of them within the next few months, I expect.

    • @illyth63
      @illyth63 3 года назад +1

      @@IDKline true, when it comes to interactions after purchase. My interactions have been both prior to and after purchases, sometimes just to ask questions. The pre-purchase conversations were more fun and amiable. In post-purchase interactions, they tend to default to the line that "what we told you before you bought it was a mistake but we won't make amends for it. Also here's an invoice because you owe us more money."

      how did you end up liking the Speedgraf? Is it the one you're keeping?

    • @illyth63
      @illyth63 3 года назад

      @@the1010watchclub I really like the Speedgraf. The Seiko NE86 movement was actually the real point of interest, and it keeps really good time and has a satisfying click with the column wheel action. I got the Klokkeriet limited edition which is the panda dial -- I also liked the Norwegian connection because I have family from Norway. It also has an unusually pronounced box dome sapphire crystal which is cool. Lots to like apart from the brand association. I just have such a sour feeling about the buying experience that I couldn't quite fall in love with it and it doesn't get much wrist time. I also have to say the factory strap had a really unpleasant smell out of the box so I replaced that pretty quick. The Yema I'm most likely to keep my Spacegraf. It's only a modest quartz, but my collection is mostly space themed and it's pretty cool. I also didn't have any problems with that purchase so none of the bad vibes.

    • @the1010watchclub
      @the1010watchclub 3 года назад

      @@illyth63 Thanks for the info- I love the crystal on the Speedgraf too. I got hands on with one at the WindUp Watch Shop popup in NYC recently and ALMOST bought it... I'm on the fence now.

    • @illyth63
      @illyth63 3 года назад

      @@the1010watchclub I really can't fault the watch itself. One other thing I didn't mention is that the bezel insert is aluminum. Of course that's true to the original, so many might prefer it that way, but it's slightly odd that they'd go to the trouble of modernizing the crystal but preserving the box dome shape, without modernizing the insert to ceramic (or even sapphire like my bronze Superman). Also, as you may have seen yourself, the bezel action is friction based, not ratcheting, which must also be true to the original Speedgraf. It actually doesn't bother me, as the action is buttery smooth, and it's arguably more useful for a chronograph than a dive time bezel.

    Hello Dave, what a beautiful diver this Yema is. I just purchased a Yema Rallygraf and it is a beauty, photos and video don't do it justice. There were 2 things going against Yema prior to ordering it; 1, mechaquart which I prefer mechanicals, and the concern with Yema customer service. I took a leap of faith and am very glad that I did, it is a beauty. I have 3 gmt 4 handers in my collection but prefer dual time watches like my Hemel Airfoil, it is just so user friendly and the movement [st19] I love. Thanks for your informative videos.....

    Good review of an excellent Watch Brand. I have been collecting for over 40 years, owned every major brand during that time, and yet, I find My Yema Superman the best of them all.
    Actually have 2 in my collection, no issues with quality at all. Purchase experience proved to be excellent for both. In my mind, amazing value for the money. No need to overspend on an over priced Omega or Rolex. I am planning on buying the GMT as a Christmas present to myself. Cheers. Looking forward to your next review.

    This brand has to be the most criticised brand in the comment sections due to their customer service and quality control, its nice you've approached this subject, at their pricing I would steer clear myself because of these issues. No doubt they make stunning watches though.

      I think it's important to stress that they did come through and fixed his issue at no extra cost though. Hard to fault them imho, in general QC is definitely a more challenging step for smaller brands, it doesn't mean they don't deserve to supported.

      My experience with Yema customer service was the absolute worst. The Yema rep argued with me, told me my complaint was wrong, and then didn’t reply to my follow-up email. Contrast this with my experience with another microbrand, Nodus. I emailed Nodus with my issue, immediately received a pre-paid label, sent the watch, and received the watch back in perfect condition in less than 2 weeks. Yema being a microbrand is no excuse for trash customer service.

    • @anthonysmith2982
      @anthonysmith2982 3 года назад +3

      Legitimate comment.
      There are a very few people that legitimately don't care about the name of the brand on their watch, and they shouldn't be confused with those who seek out bad watch brand names as a comedic or ironic 'statement'.
      I think that in this hobby we are so scared of being perceived as snobs that we often keep our feelings on brand identity and its importance to ourselves.
      It's tied up in the way we present ourselves to the world, which is tied to having pride in our appearance, our clothing, car, shoes and sunglasses etc., etc.
      I wouldn't want egg-yolk on my wrist either.
      Caring about brand identity is not puerile or snobbish, looking down on others for their sense of identity is.

    Really surprised to read so many negative reviews in the comments. I must be one of the lucky ones but I did not encounter any problem with mine and it's been my main and only watch ever since I got it. I switch between both straps every few months and love both. The only thing I notice is that it gets ahead of time pretty quickly, like a minute every 3 days, but I know it's pretty common in this range of movement. Overall love this watch and probably will keep it as my main one as long as it will last.

    Thanks for the review... I just found Yema first time TODAY and appreciate their designs. But 39mm GMT ~ $1000 is a competitive spot. Baltic and Christopher Ward both have lovely watches in that same space. C63 Sealander GMT is gorgeous and 20mm band seems a little more robust (normal) than 19mm. That in particular looks a LOT like the SGBN003/5 Grand Seiko, which lists at $3k+ and usually sells at $3k-. But again, first day with Yema and hope to explore them further.

    I really like Yema's oeuvre. I'd like to own one, but to me 'in house mov't' are 3 words I don't want in the description of my watch (Seiko and Vostok excepted for obvious reasons).
    To me, in house mov't = trouble and $.
    I've been in the hobby for 5yrs and have not once received a watch with a QC issue that required it to fixed - in any way. And believe me, this is not because I buy premium watches.
    2 out 4 with QC issues?
    That's a 50% failure rate!
    And I don't know that Yema is going to be around in 20-30yrs if my watch needs parts.

      @@anthonysmith2982 a lot more confident in the longevity of the watch with a Seiko movement opposed to the in-house ones they do. Its the only chrono I currently own actually, well if you discount my Casio a168 it is.
      I prefer watches 40mm or under so finding chronographs in this size range that I like can be difficult.
      I like the breitling Callisto and Lorier Gemini.
      Thinking on getting the Gemini though as it's cheaper, and should be easier to buy new than to source a mint condition Callisto. Although, I did see a minter Callisto about a week ago for £1200.
      Too steep for me at the moment though cos I've recently bought a new omega planet Ocean, Christopher ward trident, yema rallygraf, and a gold vintage Tissot moon phase. Congrats on obtaining your grail watch. Don’t think Yema is for me but then again I’ve never had one in hand. I’ve just purchased a Geckota K-01 pilot (type A) which is very plain in terms of aesthetic but is absolutely beautifully made and has an ETA 2824 powering it. I didn’t think it would be but this might be my favourite watch, so I know where you are coming from in terms of grail sneaking up on you 😀

    Based on the fact that the GMT jumps backwards instead of forwards, I strongly suspect that this is another watch featuring a modified ETA 2836 with the day module from the day-date complication replaced with the GMT hand. The Hangzhou 6460 does the same thing.

    • @anthonysmith2982
      @anthonysmith2982 3 года назад

      I did wonder about the nature of Yema's in house mov't.
      JOMW Jody said it in his latest review: the schematics for most ETA mov'ts are no longer copyright protected.
      Theoretically I could set up a workshop, reverse engineer a 2824 or 2893 and brand it the AnthonySmith1000... and call it 'in-house'!
      I think that Yema have most likely done this and included a few tweaks.
      I don't have a problem with it, ʙᴜᴛ the glory years of Swiss watchmaking were in a time where cases were made buy case makers. Mov'ts, Bracelets etc., etc. were the same.
      You know this, I know this.
      I get why in-house is great for haute horology brands. Hell, it's obviously been good for Seiko, Omega, Rolex... too.
      But in the price bracket I play in? Give me a Miyota 9 or ETA (or equivalent Swiss mov't) or occasionally an NH-35. It's not that I'm happy with that. I ᴡᴀɴᴛ that, same as I want a reliable, affordable and easily serviced engine in my car.

    I experienced the QC issues with my Superman GMT (earlier ETA version) and I went through a few other things things with Yema customer support and they handled it all very well. On the other hand, I think it left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth and in due time, my love for my Superman just vanished. Experiencing other brands and numerous models witout such issues leaves me puzzled how they could have such a QC failure rate. No QC at all? And it kept digging there, I bought other watches and this one is almost forgotten now in my watch box. When I rarely take it out and wear it, it wears nicely, its comfortable (although not on the stock bracelet, that is terrible for my 16,5cm wrist), but the love is gone... And I can't find a way how to get it back. I know the watch is special. I love the (for me as a leftie very impractical) bezel-locking solution, I like the GMT function that is not very common in this price range, I appreciate the vintage look with that amazing dome of the crystal and the depth of the dial... But the love for the watch, even when all the reasons I bought it for are still there and are still very relevant for me, the love is not there.

    Great video,
    I own the navygraf GMT and frankly for a brand experiencing a resurgence and trying to push the envelope as quickly as they are I would think QC issues would be expected... I frankly love their uniqueness and I take the rough with the smooth ,they do always rectify any issues as far as I have heard as numerous as they may be.
    Rolexes and Omegas "ship" with defects too btw give this brand a chance they are clearly growing and have a strategy and you know they look good....p.s they look just as good in rl
    I also own the Yema Bronze yatchingraf and blue tarmac rallygraf all perfect and absolutely no issues...........yet.

    This is my personal opinion of cos. But this watch looks like one of those watch at first glance you fall in love with it, and wanted so bad to get it. But after a few months looking around, and look back at it. You realize that your desire for it diminish. I got the same feeling with the Longines Hydroconquest (which looks better in my opinion and for the same price, or more - no gmt of cos).
    About QC: the only reason customers get an flaw watch, after QC (mid tier / high piece), my personal opinion is not that they miss the flaw, some are very obvious. But instead they hope you get it, and accept it, and move on. That's the only reason I can think of (we not talking about Seiko here as they produce hundreds if not thousand of watch daily, and I think Yema don't have that kind of demand). And if you encourage such behavior by purchasing the item, you are telling them its ok to do so. They can get away from it, with a lower QC standard (or customer service standard). And the behavior continues, unless they are serious about their customer feedback.
    But if its a personal preference, great choice and a good looking watch. Congrats.

    I bought 2 Yema pieces and had problems with both. Not the bracelets unfortunately, but the watches themselves. I sold the first one within a couple of weeks as the lume was so bad, it was unusable diving, it was also very slightly misaligned. Customer service was non existent at the time, a couple of years ago. The second one was losing 40 seconds per day, totally unacceptable AND one the hands wasn't correctly lumed, it looked like it got chipped off sometime during the assembly. Yema quality is just not good enough. I've had better quality from watches half the price. It's an uninspiring brand for me. Never again and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

    Yema is really a brand of contradictions as far as I'm concerned.
    There is room for improvement but the biggest one might not even be their customer service but their pricing.
    The Navygraf GMT from the Marine Nationale limited edition is below average on almost everything but the looks. Yes it is discreet enough but mine just loss it's head quickly when it comes to time, appaling time gaps, barely acceptable light at night.
    That watch might be worth 500 at most. But there is no way this is worth 1000 on a market where Seiko, Casio or even Hamilton can get the job done faaar much better and cheaper (among really too many others).
    Nice little watch, I'm not really giving it much flattery though. I wouldn't sell it because I find it nice enough even if it requires some customer service but for a military watch, that's a big no for me. I would never go on anything requiring precision and performance with a watch like that.

    Grail? 🤔
    I just recently got the Superman Air Force. On sale, $700.
    I kept it. It works (so far).
    But the quality (finishing, comfort, etc.), and quality to price ratio is VERY OBVIOUSLY inferior to "entry level" Swiss.
    I have two Hamiltons, a lovely Steinhart Ocean GMT, and a few Glycines - an Airman GMT, a beautiful moon phase, and a great Valjoux 7750 powered Chrono.
    I only buy new watches, and all the aforementioned watches were cheaper than the Yema (yes, I got great deals on them). All of them are better quality.
    I am not even talking about reliability and customer service.
    I believe Yema is not hiding the fact that actual manufacturing is happening outside of France (meaning Asia, probably). I think (correct me if I am wrong) the design, assembly, and (lousy) quality control is done in France, but everything else is sourced from outside - from Asia.

  • @wingi7722
    @wingi7722 3 года назад

    Right off the bat - at 45 secs in I can see that the GMT hand is off! With the minute hour at 12, the GMT hand should be pointing directly to an hour marker. Not in between. Rough enough is not accurate enough for this sort of money. I then watched your entire video expecting this to be the QC issue that you would refer to but was rather surprised that this important flaw was not mentioned. Another thing is that at 300M this piece is in Dive Watch territory so was rather intrigued to see that the second hand is not lumed which is pretty important for a dive watch. It is indeed a nice looking piece but for me the GMT function has to be accurate.
