That was a necessity for me, because I only keep one size of straps on hand for simplicity. The down side is ordering out of France. You will get the joy of paying the import duty on top of the price, so keep that in mind. I also cringe to think what servicing a house movement Yema will be like someday.

I contacted them only to be told there was nothing they would do and if I wanted the updated movement I needed to pay for it.... Safe to say I won't be buying another Yema if this is their business model which is a shame because I really like my M1.
Be proud of your M1 and wear it in good health, and as many have written on the forums it is probably the small batches of the MBP1000 that will have the best value in the long run as it was the first in house movement. 7:20 that's how every watch company like to justify it, advertising this as being "careful to customer skin", but is NOT the reason why the case back is stainless steel. The reason is pure technical, it HAS to be stainless steel: you cannot screw a bronze cashback on a bronze case since, as it will eventually develop a patina it will fuse to each other in time (titanium on titanium bond as well, although is a different phenomenon). Even the crown does not screw on bronze, but on a stainless steel tube. Is still an issue for the bezel as well, but since this will be used more often, the chances to get bond with the case is a bit low.
Steve!!!!! Great to hear from you my friend and thank you. You are reviewing more watches now?!?! With that radio voice, your gonna kill it my friend. @@theurbangentry yeah I started a few weeks ago so I'm trying to get into a groove but I'm rusty when it comes to RUclips videos! I reviewed the stainless steel Yema GMT (Black/Grey bezel) and I absolutely love it. One of my favorites!
I'm glad I'm not the only one, it took about 5x for my payment to go through, I was exceedingly nervous that I'd either end up missing out, or end up accidentally with five of them. Now the long wait for February.
I must admit this was a nice surprise. I had never heard or seen this brand. Fascinating history. Very informative and of course beautiful production as always!
In all honesty, at the beginning this video I wasn't really interested in the watch and was just watching so I wouldn't have to eat my lunch in silence. But as TGV began to talk about the history of Yema and the rich patina that comes eventually with the watch, I found myself deeply interested and eagerly listening. Just goes to show what an effect a well written and narrated review can have on an average Joe. Hats off to you TGV!
The only channel I must watch full screen. Beautiful. As to the watch, it may be my favorite and so much so I will have to explore it further. Love the idea of the bronze patina as an organic marker of time, use, and appreciation.
What I like the most about this watch is the awsome TGV review that comes with it . Nicely done . I mean I'm working right now and I stopped everything as soon as I got the notification . Keep them coming my friend they are the best out there. Thank you
Yes, the metallic scent that bronze watches have. No other alloy used for watches does that. This is an entirely new dimension to your watch experience. I have a Tudor Heritage Black Bay Bronze and it was the first thing I noticed. Love it. No, complaining about the lug width. If after market providers can a produce straps in even sizes then then can do so in odd sizes. It would be like asking Picasso to “make that painting a little bigger so I don’t have to buy a custom frame” (I know he’s dead). The symmetry of the watch is vastly more important than pandering to stubborn strap makers refusing to service the community. Yes, I pressed like. Love you mate. P.S. Received a Grand Seiko SBGN001, my first GMT. Get a GMT you will love it.
Kudos on this video. I haven't viewed your channel in quite a while and this format is markedly different from those in the past. You deserve loads of credit for taking the time to research and put together all of the video elements. You'd be hard-pressed to find other channels devoting 23 minutes to a watch profile. I am here because I just purchased the maxi dial Superman Worldtime with steel bezel today, and I am chomping at the bit to take receipt of it. The totality of elements in this model are so satisfying that it defies logic, since most brands are keen enough to either put desirable elements in different models (but not all in one), or make you pay through the nose for what you really want. The price point made my decision for me.
I own a Yema Rallygraf and they sent me early notice of this watch and the kickstarter campaign. Now I'm kicking myself that I didn't jump on it when I had the chance! It's great company with excellent customer service. TGV keep the one they sent you to review! It's beautiful!
That intro is just so cool.. great review as always! I just picked up my first bronze watch. I went for a Glycine Combat Sub “vintage” bronze GL0265. I’m really digging the bronze trend.
Thank you for a great review, nice to see this version as I do not really know if I like the black or blue version best. And also, I find that 19 mm is OLNLY a problem if you need a bracelet, and for this you wont, and for the steel versions you get it with the watch. Almost all 20 mm rubber, leather and canvas straps will fit. I now have 2 (soon 4 with the 63 and the GMT) Superman watches and the 19 mm lug width is not a problem at all. I recommend using 18 mm nato straps for the extra vintage vibe. Keep up the good work!
Was going to purchase the YEMA for my 50th in August, but talked myself out of it. Maybe for my 51st...As always TGV, well done video. I will be watching this one more than once.
I secured my GMT on Kickstarter and at that time it felt like a gamble, although a happy one. After this review, I just can't wait to get my hands on it :) Thanks!
Fixing a dive time bezel by the crown is not the best idea. Sure it protects from bumps but on a diver bezel a bump can only increase the elapsed time therefore urging you to the surface even earlier than normal. BUT many time their ascent by setting the time to 0 at every pressure level. Something you cannot do when you are already under water and rotating the bezel means unscrewing the crown. Fixing a GMT bezel on the other hand is a great idea.
I have a bronze Steinhart Ocean One. I've had it about 5 years now and love the patina that has formed, dark where the case doesn't come into contact with sleeves, lighter where it does ie lug tips. Looks like the Yema uses the same type of aluminium bronze as the Steinhart and Tudor BB. If you want to encourage the patina don't force it but swim in the sea with it. As you said it then is an extension of you and your lifestyle. Buy one!
Yet another outstanding video from TGV! I recently received, direct from Yema the Heritage Navygraf and fell in love again with the brand. I have a Sous Marine from the 70s too.. Naturally, I was “over the moon” when I received the KS offer ...and put in my order for the watch you reviewed. Next week will be dial color and size configs etc. I was leaning towards blue but your excellent review has me thinking black now.
TGV thank you so much for reviewing this piece! I was smitten with it the moment you shared a preview on your chat with Marc and managed to place an order for it on the kickstarter - cannot wait till February! I too loved the fact that while it has hints of the Tudor/Rolex to it, it had it's own unique design cues, brand history and character as well! While I love the Rolex GMTs, I have been looking for a relatively affordable GMT for a while and did not want a straight homage either. This would be my first 'expensive' watch and I have my fingers crossed that the servicing won't be too difficult. Lovely video as always, and thanks for shining a light on some of these brands I might not have found about otherwise!
Under $1500 Glycine Airman is practically unbeatable GMT watch. Tho lately I acquired Mido Ocean Star GMT and if you're into more modern dive/GMT in one with 80h power reserve, that's definitely something to consider.
Man, I honestly never had any connection to Yema before, but I got this watch on my radar only thanks to you during your "favorite new watches of 2020 review" with Long Island Watches. Was still in time for the kickstarter campaign by then and voilá, after 30 heartwrenching minutes I finally got the backing confirmation! So thanks TGV, thanks a lot - I would have surely missed this amazing timepiece if not for you. Cheers from Germany! Edit: The 39mm blue, it is for me :P
I just got my French Airforce version. No QC issues on mine, but seems like others have had some problems. I really hope they solve that, the brand is a good one. In house movements from non-Seiko watches at the price point are very appealing. Nice video!
Thank you Aaron, a man of impeccable taste I see. So happy to hear that, may your Dan Henry bring you as much enjoyment as they have for me! Best regards, TGV
Great vid, with a nice take on the brand history. Really on another level compared to what most of the other watch reviewers do. Not sure why would anyone hit a thumbs down on this. TGV 👍👍👍
Thank you for your beautiful review of this watch. Even though this watch is not for me, it is very pleasing to see how you tell about every detail and keeps me watching until the end.
I have the 2020 yema superman bronze black with the black bezel. It looks really good and I like pretty much everything about it. The nato strap it comes with is a bit lacking and feathers out. Although that gives it a bit of a rugged look and feel. I quite like that. Its a bit like underselling it. On the other hand it adds to the adventurous and military history of yema. To be fair it comes with two straps, but I don't like the black rubber one. Might upgrade the strap some time but for now I'm very pleased overall. Nice review as always and I can really recommend this watch to anybody who wants an automatic watch in that price range. It's my first automatic watch and after almost one year of daily wearing it I still catch myself staring at it and admiring it's beauty.
I have one on it's way this February from the Kickstarter campaign. I already have a Navygraf and a Superman Heritage Blue, I couldn't resist the low Kickstarter pricing. I have had a Bronze Glycine Combat Sub for a couple of years now that I really love, it has developed a dark dull finish much like an old copper penny that I really like. If I wear the watch often, the patina wears off the sharp edges and points on the case slightly, giving it brighter highlights that really add to the look. If I had wanted to keep the watch looking shiny new, I think just giving it a light polish with a soft cloth periodically would do the trick. To get the extreme green corrosion that you see on some bronze watch cases, you need to make an effort, exposing it to sulphur or vinegar of other substances that massively accelerate the "patina". I tried it out when I first got the Glycine, decided it wasn't for me, and easily polished the watch to it's original, gleaming state. I also like the metallic smell of the bronze, although many don't. It smells like old copper coins.
I have a pair of Yema Superman Heritage Divers (one black the other sunburst blue dial) with the Selita SW200 movements, both are great. I am curious about the in house movement powered watches, but what holds me back is the question, servicablity, Can my local watchmaker work on an in house Yema Caliper?
I went for the steel & bronze non gmt version on Kickstarter. Probably the green dial as I don’t have any other green dials. Really interested to see what it will be like but my friend had said he will take it if I don’t like it so it was a no risk purchase!
The GMT is my favorite complication, having it no less than twelve watches from a range of brands. I'm glad to see you covering some lesser known brands like Yema. When you get to covering Longines in the future, consider their Conquest GMT, a variant of their Conquest. Another brand to look at some time are the Certina, one of the Swatch Group on the same tier as Hamilton, Mido and Tissot that tends to be ignored. Enjoyed this video about the Yema, highlighting the brand.
I've been waiting for your review of this lovely watch. I backed the Kickstarter campaign as soon as it opened and am getting the Blue GMT. Your review of the Flygraf turned me onto the brand. Thank you for all of your hard work and great videos.
Hello from Malaysia! Already a proud owner of vintage Glycine Airman Special, I am so excited over this Yema Bronze GMT. I have a 7inch wrist and now having headache over picking which size, 39mm or 41mm..... and Black or Blue dial! Thank you for the wonderful review!
Nice video, and very gratifying after I backed the Kickstarter at €750 for the GMT. I will select the 41mm, which is still only 49.5mm Lug 2 Lug. I can’t decide between blue or black. Whilst black offers more strap combo’s blue works with white & blue shirts etc, and jeans. Can’t wait to get it soon after my Riese Field watch in green arrives from that Kickstarter. It’s going to be a great Feb.
Wow, around 13:00 - when looking at straight angle, it looks gray, then at a different angle, it becomes violet. If it's not a reflection of violet light, and it's an actual color change, I'm really impressed. 14:16 - can we call it a "road sign hand"?
I’m from Besançon, and I’ve been to Lycée Jules Haag (watch school of Besançon) such as my grandfather and my uncle. I’m very proud that you get interested by brand like Yema, and all the mechanical watchmaking héritage my city has. Regards Hugo
Appreciated your review primarily as I’d managed to snaffle a bronze gmt on the Kickstarter and I was a tad unsure. Now I can’t wait, blue and 41 mm for me I think. Yema as a brand was previously unknown to me until I watched your superman review so thank you for the enlightenment.
I got my first G Shock today, the GA 2100 in black with white hands and indices and I'm really chuffed with it, I've been wanting one for months and wanted to get one from a store rather than online so I could get a look and feel of it first, it was the last one as well. Next purchase is either a Seiko flight watch or a GMT
Maybe this has been covered way in the past on this channel and I missed it, but I would love to see a video on yachting chronographs. I find them fascinating. That re-release Yema did is very nice. If I had the justification for buying one, I would. It looks like they have ended its run, sadly. I know of at least one place with a bit of stock. The Heuer Skipper is another one that comes to mind. I love the fun colors.
Superman GMT's up for tough completion inhouse. Yema has launched the Navigraf GMT 39 mm. With a solid movement (Yema 3000) just as nice on a bracelet as on a Nato-strap. Check it out. By the way - lug width is 19 mm of course - it's French...
I am a big fan of the channel been so about 6 months I have bought 2 seikos since seeing your reviews I just got the new prospex Turtle and the bottle cap. Thanks to you I know it's a lot of editing work but also have become a fan of Hugo!!! I was wondering I haven't seen any reviews of Gylcine I have their Airman, which I recently wore to the UK and gave me excellent time of family in Manhattan, and midwest.I have their Incusore hand wound also and their combat which is a poor man's Tudor back bay (old version) keep up the great work your videos have become must have with breakfast in the am !!!
How do you prevent corrosion when you have a stainless watch back on a bronze case ? When two different metals are in contact you can get galvanic corrosion. On a boat for example that has a bronze propeller and a stainless steel prop shaft one needs to fit a sacrificial zinc anode to prevent that corrosion
Always a pleasure to watch your video - the pics of movie in the background reminded my childhood with Alain Delon's movie etc... and your knowledge about French culture (and also Italy in your other videos...) is impressive and enjoyable... it's not all about watches in your video and I like it now... I need to buy a Yema :) Francois
Haha, great to hear from you my friend, congrats on the Flighty!!!! LOL, its a good problem to have ;-) I am just as bad, enjoy it! Thank you EE, Best regards, TGV
Oh no way! I just backed this too, going to get the GMT with blue dial. Funnily enough, I had ordered a normal GMT before I knew about the campaign. So, I went from 0 to 2 Yema watches in a month!
Yema really knows how to make my wrist itch. They offer so much class for the price. Can't wait to see what the future holds for Yema! Thanks for the review TGV. I'll be looking forward to the next one. Regards, Koen
Seems so but look again, it is not misaligned, only looks that way because of the angle & depth of field of the camera in relation to the height of the applied cardinal index.
Gotta say, this has got to be one of my favourite intros ! Would you be open to talking a little bit about how you make them and how and why you learned etc. In a video ? That watch is incredible to.
Well, this is nice....a modern watch made of a metal from the Iron age....without any joke, very nice, very tough, very legible....i like it. But most of everything i love that GMT hand because it's not too loud. Good job TGV Ciao
Thank you for your excellent and detailed review. I’ve watched this video several times now. I’ve backed the Bronze GMT and really looking forward to the completed Kickstarter. I’ve decided to go the Bronze Black GMT. It looks so good in your video. Cheers.
Great review. Some of the newer Mido Ocean Star pieces offer similarly good value too, though not with an in house movement like this. Been looking at an Ocean Star Diver 600 COSC or the GMT as my beater watch
Whilst the stainless steel version looks great, I'm afraid in my opinion, the bronze will eventually look mucky. A trait that all bronze watches share. Great review sir.
I think they are well aware of the "strap issue" they want you to come to them directly for new or replacement straps. I think a lot of companies do the same.
Great review. I am the proud owner of 2 Yema superman and simply love them. Am I buyest because I am french... Well... Try one and you LL love Yema watches and what the brand represents. The brand (As you said) has such a history. Continuez comme cela cher passionné de "garde temps".
The thing I don't like about every sub $2k "GMT" watch I've found is the GMT complication is backwards. You can modify the GMT hand in hour increments but when you move the hour hand the whole thing changes. This is, unfortunately, pretty useless for the function of traveling since it means you have to reset the entire watch when you enter a new timezone. TGV, I would love a video where you find the best proper GMT watch under $1k. Currently I use my $80 Vostok 24 hour dial where I just spin the bezel for a new timezone. In proper Russian style it is really simple, and works. Even handles half hour offsets just fine! :)
Thanks for this terrific review, I was very lucky to be successful via the Kickstarter offer and secure my first GMT and its my first 'prestigious' watch I have bought this way. I have been agonising over the size but you've FINALLY helped my decide that I will go for - 39mm, but I am still not sure which colour - blue or black?! Do you have any more advice on this please? It is a shame about the lug width but I'm sure I can live with it!
Waiting for my my Bronze Heritage Blue GMT, purchased through the Kickstarter campaign. Waiting is hard, I'm watching this video for the tenth time, lol.
I must admit, this specific GMT version Maker & Model has visually become my favorite thus far! Thank you TGV for introducing me to another fine watchmaker with an always welcome military history background! Semper Fidelis! ⚡💪🏽😉
About the alloy formula, I think most brands use a copper-tin or Cu-Sn alloy, which turns green more easily as it patinates. The most iconic watch of this category is probably Panerai. However, when aluminium becomes the major alloying element, the Cu-Al alloy it produces does not form verdigris (the green stuff) very easily. The most iconic in this category would be the Tudor bronze BB. The Cu-Al alloy is both stronger and morr corrosion resistant than Cu-Sn alloy.
Based on what I have seen from posts of people with their bronze superman, as well as the official photos Yema posted on their kickstarter, I am willing to guess that yema probably uses some kind of Cu-Al alloy similar to that used by Tudor, as all the pictures I have seen for both models show them developing a dark brown natural patina instead of turning green.
Pursuant to the bezel lock crown, why would you want to move the bezel under water? I thought that was the whole point of a unidirectional timing bezel.? Correct me if I'm wrong please. Great watch, never would have looked at the company without this channel, great historical character and well made, definitely on my list. Thanks TGV
As always, very nice intro editing with all those images referencing. Cool that you got to see the Yema Superman, a brand you love. I tried to get that bronze version too but with the blue dial but they when out so fast. Still could got a hold of a stainless/bronze green dial version. Not as beautiful maybe, but the aging process intrigues me. I also find it class that they made it in two versions, depending on your wrist size and that they give you two bracelets with them of different materials. A nice touch. As for the "Pure Class" translation, word for word it wouldn't make much sense. But maybe "La Superman Bronze, c'est la classe !" would translate the thought you have about it.
I am looking at Rolex GMT II coke dial and I see some striking similarities with the Superman watch, still it is a beautiful watch to look at. I have The Superman is a lot of watch for the price point. beautiful craftmanship well put together in a package that stands out all on its own.
TGV, have a look at the Citizen GMT bj7110 Promaster super titanium, seriously impressive watch! After owning an Omega Seamaster and several Seiko auto divers this is simply the best watch I have owned in this category... Citizen is finally getting their swagger back. This watch retails for sub $600 US.

I'm glad I'm not the only one, it took about 5x for my payment to go through, I was exceedingly nervous that I'd either end up missing out, or end up accidentally with five of them. Now the long wait for February.
@@maverickmonk yep that sounds like my experience hahaha. February can't come soon enough!
I must admit this was a nice surprise. I had never heard or seen this brand. Fascinating history. Very informative and of course beautiful production as always!
What a "gentastic" intro!
Still the best intros in watch youtube
Thank you Jack, I love the poetry of your comment, I might have to quote you!
Spot on my friend,
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry You've a special talent TGV, far beyond the usual RUclips fodder. Kudos my friend.
TGV your intros just keep getting better and better, soo good!
Well in French we say « pure classe »instead of « pure class » et je suis assez d’accord, cette montre c’est la pure classe ✨
Btw it's said the same way only spelling is different
@@KRaikkonenSF was my point 🙌
You have so much to look forward to!
Enjoy it and please let me know how it goes,
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Next week will be dial color and size configs
etc.
Nice video!
Huge fan! Love these videos, keep them up! Bought a Dan Henry because of you and now really considering this and the Aquis
Thank you Aaron, a man of impeccable taste I see.
So happy to hear that, may your Dan Henry bring you as much enjoyment as they have for me!
Best regards,
TGV
The Aquis is a great watch. I bought one this year and I absolutely love it. Highly recommend it.
Yema has a tremendous collection now. Bravo they managed very well their return ;)
Love the look of what Yema has been producing recently, definitely on my radar!
Same here. I have a Superman Blue with an SW200 and would like to get another with the scales bracelet, but the in house movement doesn’t move me.
The Blue GMT is amazing! Homerun for Yema!
I really waited for this review!
How is your new seiko 5 going? How is the accuracy and is it holding up to scratches?
I love your videos keep them up!
I’m from Besançon, and I’ve been to Lycée Jules Haag (watch school of Besançon) such as my grandfather and my uncle. I’m very proud that you get interested by brand like Yema, and all the mechanical watchmaking héritage my city has.
Regards
Hugo
Epic Intro! with Belmondo :)
Just got mine on Friday, love this watch so far
I am a big fan of the channel been so about 6 months I have bought 2 seikos since seeing your reviews I just got the new prospex Turtle and the bottle cap. Thanks to you
I know it's a lot of editing work but also have become a fan of Hugo!!!
I was wondering I haven't seen any reviews of Gylcine I have their Airman, which I recently wore to the UK and gave me excellent time of family in Manhattan, and midwest.I have their
Incusore hand wound also and their combat which is a poor man's Tudor back bay (old version) keep up the great work your videos have become must have with breakfast in the am !!!
Actually you are the best in this segment, thank you!
I think i am going to watch this tomorrow morning with my moring coffe. That makes the perfect combo for a perfect start into the day.
Well, Zelos is open about using CuSn8 bronze for their cases, as my Abyss 3 is. Very warm, copper tone. High strength too
How do you prevent corrosion when you have a stainless watch back on a bronze case ? When two different metals are in contact you can get galvanic corrosion. On a boat for example that has a bronze propeller and a stainless steel prop shaft one needs to fit a sacrificial zinc anode to prevent that corrosion
Always a pleasure to watch your video - the pics of movie in the background reminded my childhood with Alain Delon's movie etc... and your knowledge about French culture (and also Italy in your other videos...) is impressive and enjoyable... it's not all about watches in your video and I like it
now... I need to buy a Yema :)
Francois
Thank god! Needed something to get me through the week lol. Also I just got a Flightmaster for a 3rd time lo so I may have a problem
Haha, great to hear from you my friend, congrats on the Flighty!!!! LOL, its a good problem to have ;-)
I am just as bad, enjoy it!
Thank you EE,
Best regards,
TGV
You have read my mind again. I have been on the Yema website all last week. I think I will need to get one soon.
Oh no way! I just backed this too, going to get the GMT with blue dial. Funnily enough, I had ordered a normal GMT before I knew about the campaign. So, I went from 0 to 2 Yema watches in a month!
The kickstarter offer was the bargain of the year! Bronze case and in-house GMT caliber for less than 800$...
Yema really knows how to make my wrist itch. They offer so much class for the price. Can't wait to see what the future holds for Yema!
Thanks for the review TGV. I'll be looking forward to the next one.
Regards,
Koen
Very stylish intro. I love your video editing. Thanks. Word of the day - smidgen.
I just bought the new limited edition Yema Navygraf GMT. Looking forward to getting it and reviewing it.
Hugo, do you think green dial color is more "rare" than the grey?
awesome review. Never thought about buying a yema but seriously considering it now!
Beautiful review of beautiful watch! Perfect while waiting for February.
11:21 I am seeing misalignment on the dial, did this prototype come from Seiko?
Seems so but look again, it is not misaligned, only looks that way because of the angle & depth of field of the camera in relation to the height of the applied cardinal index.
Gotta say, this has got to be one of my favourite intros !
Would you be open to talking a little bit about how you make them and how and why you learned etc. In a video ?
That watch is incredible to.
TGV - Another great review! I’ve been looking for a more affordable diver with a GMT hand.... this might be it. Thanks as always.....
your intro's always give the right tone for the rest of the video. Plus the video is super interesting!
Thank you :)
Thank you Matthias, that makes it all worth it.
Best regards,
TGV
What an outstanding review! Thank you so much for making it!
Well, this is nice....a modern watch made of a metal from the Iron age....without any joke, very nice, very tough, very legible....i like it. But most of everything i love that GMT hand because it's not too loud.
Good job TGV
Ciao
I'm not a big fan of bronze, but their Superman stainless diver is on my Christmas purchase list.
Hardest part of the kickstarter pledge
will be to wait February.
I gifted myself the GMT 39 blue
Masterful editing on that opening!
I missed the kickstarter promo unlike all the flippers on chrono24. It looks awesome.
Awesome review and close up pics.
Great review. I am the proud owner of 2 Yema superman and simply love them. Am I buyest because I am french... Well... Try one and you LL love Yema watches and what the brand represents. The brand (As you said) has such a history.
Continuez comme cela cher passionné de "garde temps".
Have several Yema watches. Was able to secure a bronze GMT at launch. Can't wait to add it to my collection
Thank you for this review TGV. Watching the GMT review I've learned about the SS Yema Superman and am smitten.
Great video. Nicely documented. Magnifique watch indeed.
