I didn’t have a spudger so I just used a flat-head screwdriver and it came out nicely. If anybody else doesn’t have a spudger I’d recommend using the flat-head too.
How did you get the screws off they put a little pin in the middle of mine so I couldn't use a hexagon screw driver could you help me or tell me if you had a problem similar
Just wanted to drop by a quick thank you for the tutorial! Great job there and the information on the faceplacte, since I think this is a awesome conideration before stepping into the DIY realm of customizing. I love how that it's the faceplate and other controller components are customizable. I may find myself with one soon, mhmmm... take care!
I guess an option would be to go crafty. Disassemble the controller, use sandpaper (maybe a fine grit) on the white parts, spray with plastic primer, find some beige spray paint meant for plastics, and a clear coat. I build plastic models kits. So I have those things on hand, so it's not a big deal for me. Although, gathering such materials for what come be a one-time use, it might come to anywhere between £/$20-25. At that point, I bet if you did a little digging, you could probably find some custom parts in that colour for cheaper. I mean I have a 3D printer, and was originally going to buy some PLA impregnated with wood particles, and 3D print a faceplate. So it would not only look like wood, sand like wood, stain like wood, and feel like it too. But since it would be a one-time use, and I can't think of any other things I would need to print in Wood PLA, it works out cheaper to just buy this faceplate.
You can buy grips and back pannels from ExtremeRate that matches the faceplate, and in some cases you can buy the faceplate with the grips and back pannels
Excellent video, thank you. I bought an expensive controller from an online company who specialise in bespoke shells. But like all my controllers they dont last more than a couple years because Im fat fisted and squeeze them too hard and damage the joy stick mechanism. So when I saw this video i practiced on my old broken controllers and then swapped my bespoke shell onto my current working controller. The screws were tricky to remove but once i found the right technique it was easy. Very pleased to have my bespoke shell in use again. And now when I brake this controller I know I can swap over the shell again!!
Thanks, this really helped. Especially since my parents are asleep and I was bored 😅 I did wat,h the video through before completely doing the process of changing the plate so I would know what I was getting into. And it wasn't really that hard
Oh gosh, I got nervous when I couldn't find the screws on the Xbox controller, but this way easier than the Switch JoyCons and I've done those before successfully. Thank you!
I know this is an older video but I just did this to one of my controllers! If he didn't mention in the video, I believe you need a T8 torx (?) screwdriver (star shaped) I now have a Resident evil faceplate
This was a good help. I found though that heating the plastic with a hair dryer makes removing the palm/side peices, far easier. That might help others.
When putting the screw in turn CCW till you feel a click (the screw will drop slightly in the hole when his happens) and then turn clockwise. This ensures the screw threads line up and you don't end up crossthreadding the screw. Also only turn till the screw stops and then tighten a little bit using two fingers on the screwdriver and no more than that.
How do these things hold up. I’ve noticed that the faceplates are just painted. Does the paint start to fade or wear off with normal use. I’m especially worried about the area around the thumb sticks
I have the exact same one of the video. First off I had some starting trouble because the holes for the x, y and b buttons were slightly too small which made them feel mushy when pressing, so I had to give it a slight sandpaper rub for that to work as it should. Ever since (for like a year now) I have had absolutely no trouble since. It doesn't wear off, it doesn't get dirty as much as the original and its just good. I don't use it that much to be fair though, I use it on PC so mostly I use keyboard and mouse.
Awesome video. I bought a purple -pinķ hard cover for the controller. It fits perfect after watching your video. We would of never known about the location of the screws to pop off the top and side sections of the controller. My Granddaughter loves her new controller. Thank you so much.
I got one with The Wave on it! Put it on today, but should have checked the controller today because now it wont stay powered on. Dont think i did anything to damage it, but cannot stress how careful to be when doing this :)
Thank you man for showing me how to do this, because i had an old broken controller but it has a really good faceplate, so, i put it on a functional one
The center joint on my controller, just bellow the home button broke off and is stuck in the controller. I've been prying at it for an hour and it won't come out, what do I do?
this didnt work for me, even though i have the same controller that is in the video. they didnt tell you that you need a BATTERY PACK instead of just batteries. my batteries fall off every time i put them in there, and wont power on. now i need to get a battery pack, i actually liked using batteries and now i have to wait for a battery pack to charge. it’s annoying but my skin fit on good.
Didn't actually know why the left vibration is bigger that the right? Also why didn't they make it at the same size? Can someone tell me why it has to be like that?
Thanks for the video. I bought cordless screwdriver for the first time (Tacklife cordless, USB chargeable) and have just gone a bit crazy with testing it out--it comes with a Torx drivers. Now it's got me of customizing my wireless Xbox One controller for Windows (I'm a PC gamer, use nVidia Gamestream to play PC games on my Fire TV and smartphone), which is basically just an Xbox One S controller. I was going to buy some wood impregnated PLA and print out one since I have 3D Printer, and people have either scanned the original faceplate/shell, or 3D modelled it from scratch. But it works out cheaper to just buy this. Sidenote: If you don't have a pry tool, you could use something like a guitar pick (I play guitar) or something that's credit card-like.
Me still trying to take off the one of the corner pieces and struggling but I live alone so I can't get help
lmao
Lol
You sound like a caveman
and you still struggling with it
THANK YOU for showing me an easier way to take off the pieces on the sides. I struggled with them for 10 minutes and they wouldn't budge.
What kind of screw for the first step
T8 screw
No it is a T9h screw driver
I tried three different types of t8 and they were all too big
Logan Kauffman same
I can’t find any of them
Haha it took me 1 minute to open It cause I threw it

Same lol 💀
Me too lol
8 months later - have you got it off yet?
3 years later... you got it off now?
@@Kermit4415 I gave up deadasss💀
why the hell do the controllers required the weirdest ass screwdriver ever made, I literally have every screw besides this one
He too, I have a interchangeable t8 bit and I don’t have any t8 security bits.
cause they don't want you seeing how fucking trashly they're made
Its a torque bit
@@chrismusiclover9893not only that they’d rather you buy a new controller rather then you to be able to attempt to fix it yourself if it fucks up
Not bad price for something that isn't just skin.
Agreed. Far better than a skin, and only a few £ more.
skins are ridiculously priced, there's a LOT of nice face plates out there.
And the skin doesn't even cover the whole faceplate
Skin is good dehydrated 😌 👍🙂👌😆😀
My mother has a sticker printer i cant just ask her to make me one for less than a dollar XD
I love the wood grain on that controller, I definitely plan on doing the same thing
I didn’t have a spudger so I just used a flat-head screwdriver and it came out nicely. If anybody else doesn’t have a spudger I’d recommend using the flat-head too.
Yay!
I just found this video because I recently purchased the chrome pink one! Super easy to put on actually, this helped out a lot 💕
How did you get the screws off they put a little pin in the middle of mine so I couldn't use a hexagon screw driver could you help me or tell me if you had a problem similar
Does anyone know of you can put a plate in a scuf controller?

Very clear and concise instructions, changed my faceplate in less than 5 mins !
If the white parts were beige than this would be perfect
SoldierOfJudgement04 it’s just the front plate

Helpful, but, what size was the screwdriver head? I’ve been going around my house like a madman trying to find the right size, but no luck.
Thx a lot just bought some grips and cover. Super helpful video.
What’s the official part name of the 2 back parts you took off please as mine have cracked?!
Grip back panels

Just used this video to install an Extreme Rate Rose Red faceplate. Fantastic tutorial, thank you!
Thanks for the vid, the grips definitely were the hardest part.
I remember when you used to be able to just pop them off smh why do they need to make things so difficult!
Can you please help how to configure radica gamester arcade stick on Xbox didn'txspectrum emulator and others moded Xbox thanks

I'm using that size , it don't fit
Thank you, my joystick popped out of my faceplate so I will certainly use this to just pop it back in

What kind of stew is that ?
i used this info to spraypaint my controller it looks nice. I like your clean wood design
Simple concise instructions tho I needed hubby to help me prie open the side panels haha
Thanks! I just bought a new shell for my controller and I didn’t know how to do it.
Thanks for the video! Really straight forward and easy to follow. The faceplate I just bought actually came with the little pry tool so that was nice.

did you need a special screwdriver to do this or does any start tip work
That's all it takes, should've realized it would've been something simple. Great tutorial :)
decent Face plate I got mine for my series x controller and it's honestly not that bad They feel amazing too like the real thing
Thanks dude. I’m painting my front shell to look like 501st clone armor from Star Wars!
I did this to clean the buttons instead of just putting rubbing alcohol but actually cleaning thoroughly
I am going to take the top and then hydro dip it and I think it wil be cool
Same I doing it for fun and for a school project

Anyone know what type of screw driver and size that is also what that plastic tool is called? I got as far as the sticker 😅
I know it’s nothing to do with the controller but what is the batteries you use called coz I’m trying to get some but I can’t find any good ones👍👍👍
Do you deed that specific pack for the screw

Wait does that center screw use a different head it looks like a hex not torx like the rest
They also fit on the new Xbox one controllers with the headphones jacks
Guys if your planning on doing this use a spudger like he used it helps a lot

What type of screwdriver for the battery back part
What bit do we need i know its a torque bit but what size i was thinking t8
Thank you man for showing me how to do this, because i had an old broken controller but it has a really good faceplate, so, i put it on a functional one
Can anyone vouch for a shell with proper fitment? I tried an expensive marble design shell and it does not fit properly on one side.
Thank you as well for showing that the sticker can be removed without piercing it too.

What’s the tool u used to get the back pieces off? I don’t want to use something I cant
I got the Sakura pink one and mistook it for a silicone shell but this was really informative!
Nice video I was able to do this in 19 minutes

Annoying that they don't come with a spudger cause I have one of their plates but I don't have anything to get off the grips
I broke the side grip a little like one piece of plastic and it goes back in but at the top it's not fully down what can I do

Does the scuf prestige faceplate fit in on the regular controller
Thanks mate this really helped me out
this didnt work for me, even though i have the same controller that is in the video. they didnt tell you that you need a BATTERY PACK instead of just batteries. my batteries fall off every time i put them in there, and wont power on. now i need to get a battery pack, i actually liked using batteries and now i have to wait for a battery pack to charge. it’s annoying but my skin fit on good.
That looks amazing!!! 👍
Okay so I got the joker one but I botched up my controller I think it's the analog keeps moving up or down so uh good thing I got 2 controllers lol
Didn't actually know why the left vibration is bigger that the right? Also why didn't they make it at the same size? Can someone tell me why it has to be like that?
Thanks so much! This was extremely helpful and now my controller looks awesome!
No (beep) this tutorial was the best I love it. It also help me so. Whoo hoo. Thanks
Never done anything like this before but this really helped 👍🏽
What kind of screwdriver are you using? It doesn't look like a typical phillips.
Face plate had an extra plastic lip that didn’t give it a perfect fit. It’s lifting over the pause and power buttons.
Thanks dude! Very clear instructions :)
Thanks😂 dog chewed off the rubber piece on top of my left joystick so I had to replace it.
