I lpve pairing up digital and film. I use a GFX with the Mitakon 65 1.4 before committing my Pentax 67 & 105 2.4 to the shot. The GFX gives me the same DOF and composition as the 67, and if I don't like it, I don't take the shot on the 67. Biggest downside is the weight of this combination though....🙃

Love your videos, your style and sense of humor. Having had the Q2 and a M262 I would say the older M has something in color rendition that is different. But you can get wider range of styles with film sims. I now use a Fuji X-T2 with film sims from Fujixweekly.
I have a love/hate relationship with Leica. Most of my photography hero's used Leicas. I can’t believe the cost they demand and won’t pay the price. On top of that, when I’ve used Leicas I’ve borrowed from the local camera store I haven’t loved the images or experience. As a result, the only Leica gear I own is cobranded LUMIX lenses. I make believe my Fujis are Leicas. Reality is overrated. I use the Fuji 90mm lens sometimes. It is very sharp. It is also large and heavy. Not a lot of fun to schlep around all day when I’m doing street photography. I also carry a 23(35) or 35(50) lens when I go out with the 90. At least the Fuji 90 autofocuses. 90 isn’t the answer to all my questions. I’m also attracted to the color red. Recently I’ve started doing intentional camera movement. If I see a red object I capture it using ICM. It is like Saul Leiter and umbrellas. Sorry you couldn’t capture the curved balconies at 10:30. Please go back there with another lens. There is at least one image there waiting for you. I know you are a film woman. I think Fuji gives you the film experience with the advantages of digital photography. Just accidentally, at least without intention, I purchased a XE2 and X100VI. I am very happy. Also very broke. The difference between a man and a boy is the price of his toys. You could get an SLR Leica like R3 or even R4 these days for under $300 US. And older models from SL range for much less. It's important however to determine which generation of lens you have course of compatibility issues, believe it or not. BTW, those lenses red dots on a side that serves as alignment for lens mounting, back in the day Minolta had them too 😁

It's a long time since the last time i saw a video from your channel, really enjoy your style. I think the 'Leica look' is due to its lenses which are outstanding. I own that 90 lens but version II, it's exceptional either on film or digital, from APSC to GFX.
Very nice video and photos - as always. I use M42 lenses with an adapter on Sony NEX cameras with very satisfying results, if I do say so myself. Especially this cheap old Carl Zeiss Jena (meaning East Germany) 50mm f2.8 lens of mine has turned out to be a joy to use on my NEX-6. I also have an adapter for my Leica M lenses, so I can use them on my Micro 4/3 cameras, but I much prefer the M42 lenses on the slightly larger sensor of the Sony NEX cameras. I do think your Leitz lens renders in a "Leica style". If it were me, I'd probably focus on the lens and use the camera best suited for the lens and achieve the colors in post, but then again, I'm not sold on in camera recipes in general, so what do I know 😉 As for relatively long lenses, I do like using them myself - in fact my new second hand Olympus 75mm f1.8 Micro 4/3 lens arrived earlier today (my last addition for the foreseeable future as I have to start seriously saving up for moving costs within the next two (ish) years). Enjoy the warmer weather. In Denmark it's still summer with too warm days and nights for my taste, though I'm sure Australians visiting find it chilly.

Thank you. Most of the look is just the halation effect in Davinci Resolve. We sometimes use filters as well but you don’t really need to if you have Davinci.

I'm an older guy and shoot film, almost exclusively black & white so please forgive this question if it seems naive but... does no one use zoom lenses any more? I shoot mostly large format but for 35mm my favorite combination is a Minolta 800si camera and a Minolta 28mm to 135 mm f/3.5-4.5 zoom. I do my own film developing and darkroom printing. Sorry that I can't answer your question but Leica was never one of my things. I had a IIIg with the collapsible 50m lens at one time but didn't care for it and sold it.
Cropping normally refers to removing sections of an image. A longer focal length lens is normally referred to as having a narrower field of view rather than being cropped. As your videos are so entertaining, I'll forgive you.😊

I find in the photography community it can be quite intimidating for a lot of people, especially newbies and females, as there is always this sense of everything being correct both with how we speak, present, refer to things and then apply those to our work. In the past as a younger person it really put me off interacting with other photographers for fear of being called out or being perceived as less of a photographer because I didn’t know the exact terms for everything or have a wide breadth of 💯 correct knowledge when it came to gear. When I started this channel I really wanted to show a more casual way of being interested in photography so as to make others feel welcomed and included. For me it’s about the end result and I never jump on here to review a camera in the way that someone like peta pixel (formally DP review) would because there is so much of that already. As I said you are so correct and crop is definitely the wrong word but if I spent time being more diligent about all these small technical words, details, model numbers, terminology etc. I don’t think I would be as entertaining haha 😆 thank you for the compliment and I appreciate your obviously vast knowledge and understanding of photography but I just wanted to explain how that comment could be perceived and taken on board if the person was younger, sensitive or just getting started. I have a Leica M6 from my film days with a trio of lenses, 35mm, 50mm and a 90mm Elmarit M. When I got into Fujifilm cameras I bought the M to X adapter but after some experimenting, gave up on the 35mm and 50mm Summicrons because of the crop and more importantly the too long minimum focus distance of the M lenses (a function of the rangefinder triangulation). In these focal lengths, I was better served by the actual Fujifilm X lenses. The 90mm lens however was pretty useful for the crop equivalent of a 135mm which generally is used at a distance. I still throw the Elmarit in the bag and owning it has kept me from spending money on the Fuji 90mm. The
Lovely photography. As for all this Leica this and Leica that preoccupation on the part of some Fuji owners, the less said the better. No simulation can replicate the look and feel of a film photograph. These colour profiles could be interesting at times, though.
Lucy, with all due respect there's no such thing as the "Leica look", it's made up by some Leica owners a long time ago, Leica cameras and lenses are up there with the best in the world, but there's no look, do your homework and compare it with other good lenses and you'll see, it should be fun too! Keep up the good work girl!
I agree and think yes, but also no. Something can be said for the shooting experience using a Leica, and that can maybe bias how people feel about the images they also produce. But like every system, it really ultimately comes down to the lens. Cause if shooting film or digital, you'll get the same look regardless of film camera body, or digital sensors which are all very similar between brands and manufacturers these days. You could argue colour science and rendition, but if shooting raw and editing the images or using a film sim, that really doesn't matter either. So it comes down to the Leica lenses, which I think could be argued they do have their own look, especially the vintage rangefinder glass. Like Carl Zeiss lenses do, etc. Which you could call that lens design as 'character', whether that comes down to a specific bokeh rendering, softness/sharpness, flare/coatings, microcontrast, "3d pop" (also controversial lol), etc. And in the film era (especially) with such fast aperture lenses, and therefore a more rare depth of field for the time, I think that may have helped established the look on film. So then by adapting a Leica lens, I think you could argue that this is the 'Leica Look'. But I don't think that really comes down to the film sim or specific camera used. Though one caveat, by using a full frame lens on APS-C you are losing the corners of the image circle that you'd normally see, and I think that is one thing that can add the most 'character' to a lens with odd bokeh or whatever which you'd see on full frame. Anyways, this is kind of all subjective stuff haha. All that really matters is the images she took, and they were awesome.
In @AndreiDimaReviews video he says he adjusted this Fujifilm simulation recipe to look like photos SOOC from a Leica M10, but I agree Leica is more known for their analog camera hardware than their digital sensor color science.
@@ofthenearfuture you're wrong. High quality color filters cost a lot, especially in Bayer arrays. That's why some DSLRs have better color output, Lucy saw this on her D700
@@jls2975 Well I think wrong is a bit unambiguous, as there are a lot of factors at play, and opinions. And this is my opinion, like you have yours. I have a D200 with a CCD sensor and have shot many CMOS Nikons over the years, and Fujis, etc., and in my experience there really isn't that much difference between them. Sure colour science plays into it, and I found the CCD rendered some colours differently, typically the warm tones more saturated. But if you are editing raw's then you can get any sensors image to a very similar place, where you probably could not tell the difference with an A-B comparison. I mean, AA filters play a role in sharpness and moire. Bayer filters. Global and leaf shutters that negate rolling. BSI and stacked sensors. Bit depth and dynamic range. I think X-trans has better looking high iso noise, but it's demozaicing can be an issue. There are many things that can cause small changes in IQ between sensors, but I personally think that in the real world you will most likely never perceive a real difference. Aside from maybe type (aps-c, FF, MF) and resolution lol, as there is a noticeable difference between 10mp and 60mp. At least when pixel peeping on a computer, however if printing within reason you probably won't see it, and you especially won't on your phone screen on social media. So all that is to say, I think with editing as it is today, a Leica sensor is not making the difference in how your image looks, for me it is mainly the lens.
@@ofthenearfuture you can see a significant difference especially in the blues and reds. It's like very high quality optics (Schneider Kreuznach, Leica, etc.), few people have them and those who don't have them don't see or don't want to see the difference with their cheaper optics
