I personally had 62 wonderful years of listening to him calling out Dodgers baseball. He was the soundtrack of my youth. He is the one and only “celebrity“ who when they passed away, I cried.
Yup, there’s a reason why the average age of catchers in the league is around 30-31 yrs old. And you won’t find many championship teams with a young core of catchers.
Oh my god when the Mets won that London series game I could just about see Pete catch it but it all happened so fast I wasn't sure. When the ump signaled out we lost our minds! What an absolute thrill to be there. Thank you Mets for coming to London!!! Looking forward to seeing you in NY some day.
See my comment above for the Buck Martinez play & video. That game was against the Mariners not the Brewers. But yeah, I had the same reaction as you. How could they possibly leave out that epic Martinez play?
I can't understand how the second runner can get tagged out when he is seeing the play developing in front of him with the chance of a double play. Looks like something you will see in little leagues
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if an outfielder makes a leaping catch to rob a home run and his momentum carries him over the wall, it's a home run, right?. So why isn't it called a foul if a catcher makes a catch and falls into the dugout? I'm not saying I don't agree, just that some consistency would be nice.
No. When determining an over the wall catch or no-catch for your home run scenario, it's crucial to consider these three key factors: 1. The fielder must securely catch the ball. 2. After catching the ball, the fielder must either transfer the ball from the glove or stop the momentum of the catch. 3. If the fielder drops the ball over the wall or doesn't maintain possession due to momentum, it's considered a "no catch," resulting in a home run for the batter. These three factors are the same for plays in foul territory/dugout scenarios (of course, except for the no-catch resulting in a home run). For more info and context on these rules, look up the "Major League Baseball Rulebook 2024" PDF and go to the section "5.09 Making an Out."
There is this rule Rule 5.09(a)(1): In order to make a legal catch, the fielder must have one or both feet on or over the playing surface (including the lip of the dugout) and neither foot on the ground inside the dugout or other out-of-play surface.
@@DavidSinanan My comment was worded that way because there are baseball/softball organizations that do insist that the fielder not touch anything that is out of play, including the back of the fence.
So you call your video "Epic Catcher Putouts..." and the first clip is not a putout by the catcher. It's an assist. Isn't this the official channel of MLB?
Having no Salvador Pérez on here is a crime. I just went to a game earlier this year where he fielded a bunt, faked like he was going to gun it to 3rd to hold the runner, then chucked it back to 1st in time to get the out.. he's made plenty of great plays, and he's a legend - stop disrespecting the Royals!
@@aschmidty11 I was referring to the Perez play that @Frosty_the_Snowman described, but the first clip was one of several plays that were assists rather than putouts.
So nice to hear Vin Scully's voice again calling baseball games.
His voice was unique.

2:31 was probably the smoothest play I've ever seen
I love catcher highlights. Such an under appreciated position, but so vital to any team’s success.

@@YoungSantasGroupie I feel like that's why the astros kept Maldonado instead of putting Yanier in 2022-23, maldonado was great at calling games
This shows how worthy catchers are.
One of the many things I love about baseball is the never-ending supply of amazing plays/moments we've never seen before.
2:24 The way he turned on his back and landed back on the court was brilliant.
could probably make a 9 minute video with just Yadi
No doubt about it.
Patrick Bailey might give him a run on the 2-3 (C to 1B) pick-off record
can make a 10 min video of posey
Came here to say this.
I played LL with his brother Jose.
@@Dangic23 is it true? Mom taught them all to catch?

Yadi with like 80% of these highlights 💪🏽⚾️
How do you have a catcher clip reel without Pudge Rodriguez?!? If nothing else, the 2003 NLDS play.
Patrick Bailey 🐐 ❤️
the first clip was clearly a catcher assist, not a catcher putout
“Actually” 🤓👆🏻
Also 5:15.
Is this uploaded on the MLB Website anywhere?
Catcher is my favorite position.
6:39 this is one of the best plays in Mets history, is there any way you could use Mets radio's call of the play?
Legend has it that that first catcher is still chewing that same wad of gum.
Just enjoy what these awesome athletes can do, let someone else worry about what they are classified as.
Okay but I feel like the *official MLB account* should probably know that some of these are not putouts
Where's Buck Martinez' broken-ankle double play in '85 against the Brewers? Doesn't get more epic than that. Shame.
See my comment above for the Buck Martinez play & video. That game was against the Mariners not the Brewers. But yeah, I had the same reaction as you. How could they possibly leave out that epic Martinez play?
Epic catcher putouts, and the first one is an assist... and 5:19...and 5:58, 7:35, 8:36
Wow that first one was wild
Half of these were assists, not putouts. It baffles me that the OFFICIAL MLB RUclips CHANNEL doesn't know what a putout is...
They probably know and just want a more exciting title than "Best Assists and Putouts by Catchers"
Hey, we got to hear Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola. IDC what they were calling.
Exactly lol it's common sense actually 😂 @24tommyst
Cry
Shut up and enjoy the video.
They didn't say his name but 8:38 is Benito Santiago. He used to throw guys out from his knees quite often.
this could've easily been a Yadier Molina career highlight reel
6:50 Phillies guy intentionally slid into the catcher’s foot, I hope he got reprimanded in some sort of way
05:01 if he would’ve slide maybe he might of been safe
What about the David Ross game ending pick off?
That's an assist.

this is MLB and they have to have this many commercials that people have to Mute?
I can think of at least three Mauer plays that could have been added. How about his dive to tag Brett Gardner?
How do you not show Buck Martinez's double-play with a broken ankle?
Does the mlb channel really need this many ads in one video?
Don’t ever send posey home lmao
Patrick Bailey is the best
YADI!!!
feel like you could have thrown some Wilson Contreras on there
You never run on Molina!
I miss Yadi😢
No Mauer?
the lack of Joe Mauer plays here disappointing. his catch behind the netting and/or his tagout of Gardner would have been worthy additions to this
That ump did say foul ball first…
The very first one is a catcher assist, not a putout.
No Joe Mauer behind the net catch on here???
Not Ivan Rodriguez?! 🤨
The 2 out plays are just such legendary plays. Nothing can beat them. Make this comment viral

2 plays, 3 commercials - thumbs down!

So the first vid you show is assist. Think ill skip the rest.
So many missing plays and throws. 🤦♂️
Okay mlb where is the Joe Mauer behind the backstop net catch???
It wasn't a putout
@@calebos268True true…but why are there other lone beautiful catches only on here?
I thought there was a rule that players had to stay on the field, not crash into the stants or dugout. Or is that only right field at Fenway?
There is this rule Rule 5.09(a)(1): In order to make a legal catch, the fielder must have one or both feet on or over the playing surface (including the lip of the dugout) and neither foot on the ground inside the dugout or other out-of-play surface.
@@DavidSinanan The MLB interpretation of that rule is that it applies at the moment of the catch, not when the fielder stops moving.
