What an absolute legend!!!! I've got 2 8v92s on a boat and have been avoiding a filter change because of the priming issue. Thanks so much for your video. Made my day.👍🇦🇺
I just changed the filters on my boats 8v71s lost power port side 1/2 mile from dock and am now watching a video on how to prime the motor! After you fill the big primary filter back up with fuel make sure the o-ring is well seated under the lid and lid is on tight. The new filter was years old I think the o-ring it came with was dried out/stiff. Air got into primary fuel canister. Directions said not to use tools to tighten lid but hand tight wasn't enough. Change your filters, boat ran better for sure till the air of course.
Well I installed a new fuel pump in a series 60, checked both filters which were full. Would not start and i dont like starter fluid so I did exactly what you said, went to home depot and grabbed a handful of fittings, got a one gallon weed sprayer for 12 bucks and installed it. Worked like a charm instantly. Thank you very much. This is pretty equivalent to the device sold under the Detroit name for $500. Awesome.
Have a Cummins M11 (450hp) was just thinking about this... with a fuel gauge that likes to works when it wants to depending on the temp outside.. .. I really like it.. TY
@@LacroixCruiser sorry for take so long to get back to you..was away from the bus..my bus does not have a prime switch on engine bay switch box or any other place i can see..have a great day and again thanx for all you and your wife do...
This sounds like my anwser. I have a V6 92TA. I replaced the fuel pump and 6 of its fuel lines. So after the second filter the pump and lines are dry will your method work
Great idea! If there is already fuel pressure in the lines, would fuel pour out when trying to tap into the secondary fuel filter? I'd like to install this on my bus.
You had another video priming a Thomas bus using the same process, bus the 1/4 was too small. I had a skoolie nomad tell me it was a Devon hydraulic coupler. I ordered a 7 16, but I'm not sure if that will work. I have a 04 thomas with a Mercedes 906 rear engine

I got so confused for a moment, I thought I clicked on a diesel video and got taken to a detailing video 😂 great information, love to see it
Glad it helped!
Outstanding! Thanks so much for the priming strategy! 👍😁👏
Thanks for watching.
Love it but that’s down the road. I was thinking that I hadn’t seen a video from you in a while. Good to see you are all doing good.
Thank you, we’ll be updating everyone shortly.

Thanks for watching, hopefully you’ll never need to use it.
another awesome and usefull tip..would love to see one for the 60 series..thanke you and have an awesome day
The 60 series equipped busses usually have a priming pump built in. Look at your engine bay switch box, you should have a switch that’s labeled prime.

I’ll see if I can send you a picture of ours.
Cooool, I like out the box thinking.
Thank you
Excellent idea. Good video.
Thank you
looks good i used a shop vac on the output side as cat primer pumps take forever.
Excellent, in this bus, the return line was very difficult to access.
thanks for this tip my bus has been sitting for 3 years and i did not know how to prime it
Hopefully it helps.
Thank you sir gave me a idea hope it works for me..
Did it work?
This sounds like my anwser. I have a V6 92TA. I replaced the fuel pump and 6 of its fuel lines. So after the second filter the pump and lines are dry will your method work
Yes

No
So where you put that fitting, what would that replace, the bleeder valve?
It replaces a plug
What if you only have a primary filter, the davco glass globe style on a detroit 60 series
No need to prime those
On your sprayer..what size coupler did you use?
1/4 inch

I thought you just needed to fill the filters with fuel. Is it different on different motors?
On some yes, others no
So on the newer dd15 you have to make the fitings on secondary filter or primary filter?
No idea
DD 15 prime through a compucheck fitting ( flat face hydraulic coupler ) Prime system with 2 gallons of diesel fuel at 95 lbs. of pressure .
I have a fuel line going to that port you used. Can I still use that port?
You can use a T or you may have another plug in another location on the filter base.
Doss this also work with taking fuel pump or injectors loose??
Yes
@@LacroixCruiser I got it from the parts pantry. It's a 7\16 hydraulic coupler
