Great video, Tony. I’m also from the old school where I sanded and polished aluminum wheels. Except I got lazy. I’d mount and axel on my workbench with appropriate bolt circle, clamped an electric motor down and looped a long v belt over the wheel. Now the wheel turned and I just held the tools, pads and sandpaper in my hand. Made life much easier

What a beautiful and creative transformation. Those wheels are close to the classic BBS RS rims; an all-time great looking wheel.

Great video. I like how you documented a very labor intensive process. Cause that’s what it takes to make these turn out this well.

Nice job Tony. I refinished a set of Firebird 16 x 8 wheels for my 88 Monte Carlo LS. The clear coat was in bad shape, so it had to go. Found out that regular marine paint stripper takes it right off. A little sanding later and it's ready for polish. I also made a flat plate that covers the spokes to polish the outers without touching the paint.

They look Mint on Wendy's Mustang. Great job as always Tony! Back in the day, I would put the GTI on jackstands, let her idle in second gear, Bam, machine polished wheels!!! I always wore heavy gloves to protect the fingers, which is probably why I still have all of em. LoL

They look great. I spent hours masking and painting a set of Pontiac 5 spoke rally wheels for my truck. They are stored under the bed in the spare room waiting for me to get the truck done. Good thing my wife is a patient woman.

I have used Autosol polish, it works but I am very partial to Simichrome. It works in the same way. I am sure the finish is indistinguishable once the part is wiped off properly. Simichrome is light pink and Autosol is white. Supposedly, the Simichrome contains the red rouge compound in a very fine form.

Hey Fitzee, I know you don’t want to put a coat of clear coat. But maybe you might consider a coat of paste wax? It will at least protect the rims from the road salt and rain spots without yellowing much and it comes off easy if you want to recoat them? Just a thought. I really enjoy your videos so keep the tips coming and keep enjoying life!

Reckon you surely pulled this one of using OEM type wheels and giving them new life and a better dimension...They gold centre accentuates the blue body and the chrome centre cap and outer lip accentuates the bits of chrome on the body effectively...Very subtle but great transformation...Good on you👌👌👌

You can speed up the sanding and polishing process by mounting it on the car with jack stands under the axle. Put the car in drive and hold the paper or polisher in place. Think of it like a lathe.
