I like the way you lit the keyboard so that the reflection flashes when you hit a key. It makes it easier to see which key you are striking, at least on the white keys.
@@thearthurmigliazzaI just want to repeat what this commenter is saying. I watched this video last week and then came back the next day and spent an hour watching it at the piano. In one week this video took my playing to the next level. So thank you great video and I plan on spending more time with it today.
You are the best Boogie Woogie Teacher on RUclips! Im just so thankful, you’re the reason I fell in love with boogie woogie. I really appreciate your work!
You're a gifted teacher. The coolest thing about your videos is that they offer something for players of any level; you explain things w/out assuming that your viewers are idiots OR that we all understand tech talk/music theory buzz words. Simple but not condescending. Also, you play w/soul unlike some, which is what I really like.
Arthur....Your generosity in providing this instruction defies superlatives. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for helping me disappear into hours and hours of keyboard practice and musical bliss. Oh, the joy!!
Thanks Arthur. Your teaching style makes learning so easy for those who wish to learn. I always admire how you manage to condense your hard-won expertise into such easily digestible chunks. A very enjoyable lesson to lift the spirits in these difficult times. Much appreciated!
Thank you so much! I'm very glad that my videos and lessons help people who want to learn. This one in particular took me forever to make! haha. I had to redo it several times. There are more on the way. Almost finished with an entire series on how to play New Orleans style piano.
Thanks, you're a great teacher! Appreciate the lack of two minute fancy intros and filler in the videos and the down to earth style. I'm practically unteachable but your videos have really been helping.
You are such a great player and instructor.I am a Professional guitar player, been playing pro for over 30 years.Played with some big names. I've been working to improve my piano playing, and I have to say your videos have helped me immensely. As far as learning boogie woogie licks, yours are the best out there. Great work, I look forward to learning from many more of your videos. Thanks
You’re a great teacher and player and your charts are top notch. I just purchased the chart for this video. I strongly recommend Arthur’s teaching, videos and books. He’s the real deal.
Great! Great! Thanks so much. I worked out the basic Fats licks about 60 years ago, and I’m due for some VARIETY! Just bought the N.O. book and will now buy the boogie book. You’re a fantastic teacher. My wife, who’s been listening to me pound out the original Clarence Smith gem for years, thanks you, too!😎 Hope you’re still giving Skype lessons; might just pony up for a few!
Hi Doctor Willie, thank you! Glad you are finding these lessons helpful! Hope you enjoy the books too. Contact me anytime to setup a lesson when you feel ready :-)
Hi Arthur. Can’t thank you enough for posting this! A brilliant piece of teaching. So nice and clear. Still going through your book and your other videos with the assistance of my piano teacher and am slowly getting better. Take care, John✨👍✨
Really enjoying your lessons - both your "Boogie" book and your Tipitina/NOLA sheets I purchased last week. Just curious, what "other series" are you referring to at 9:44 in this video? Thanks again for everything !!
Hey John! So glad you are enjoying the piano lessons! The "other series" I am referring to is the How to Play Boogie Piano book that you have :-) I mention it in relation to Lick #2 from that book.
Fantastic tutorial - I'm a beginner working my way through your book -- up to lick 3 now -- so its great to see what the future progression sounds like.....
I'm still on the boogie woogie book, But have to say I'm liking the lick runs. I'd need to get a bigger tablet if I were get the new orleand piano pdf. Really like the idea of putting the stuff from the books on youtube though, very handy idea, cause having to log into the hal leonards to listen to the riffs is pain.
Thanks Dave! I believe there should be a way to download all of the audio tracks for How to Play Boogie Woogie from the Hal Leonard library so you don't have to log in every time. Glad you are enjoying the videos!
Hi Arthur! I just bought your book recently, I was wondering if you could recommend some right hand licks that would be best for a beginner? And are there videos to accompany them?
Hes got a whole bunch of videos here on his RUclips and also on his boogie website. Go through and practice the crap out of those (especially the repertoire he gives) and you'll be on the right track. I started my boogie journey a year and a half ago. I'm still not near as good as Arthur but I can fake it pretty well thanks to him :) Hes probably my favorite piano teacher on RUclips
@@thearthurmigliazza Great. Sometimes it's difficult to see which keys you press because your free fingers also press some keys slightly. Your latest configuration solved that problem.
Hi. I just discovered your website and RUclips channel. I liked them very much and I will certainly visit them often. Your recordings are very helpful and not over-talked. Just awesome. My 10-year-old son (Olivier) likes Boogie Woogie very much. I would like to invite you to his YT channel (from which I write). Your opinion will be very important for us. Once again, thank you for the excellent tutorials. Regards. Marcin
Great tutorial! But, man, your mic is rubbing up against something and causing a lot of background noise. I hope you fix it in your later tutorials. I'll have a watch and listen. Thanks for the instruction!
The Dr John tutorial may well be very interesting and entertaining, however he does not communicate each point transparently and fails to break down each example. Great player though, obviously!
I like the way you lit the keyboard so that the reflection flashes when you hit a key. It makes it easier to see which key you are striking, at least on the white keys.
Professional musician here: I’ve been looking for these fingerings for ever! This video helped me improve my technique so much! Thanks!
That's awesome! So glad it is helpful.

You can really tell where Ray Manzarek got some of his licks from, also especially that Booker bassline, he used variations on that quite a bit.

I think version 6 might be a combination
Do you have lessons on openings? I can't figure out the opening on t=0:00 before the lick.
Yes it’s covered in the lesson when I discuss that variation and on the sheet music. Just keep watching and you’ll see it

Or, distortion from having the gain on the piano too high. Just a thought...
