Beautiful tutorial! Not that I "love" Windows, but we've all gotten used to the look and when I'm now going fully Linux, at least in the beginning, it feels like I need a Windows look. Thanks!
Well, through this i learned about panel edit mode and changing the menu button, so that's nice. Would've loved to see turning the show desktop icon into a vertical bar like windows has. I personally didn't care much for the rest of the changes but that is one visual difference i still like about windows over linux mint so far.
thanks alot my sibling refueses to use ubuntu even though they have no clue about linux uses a 6gbram pc with very low specs it has tpm below 2.0 it might be supported or i could just bypass requirments but theres no way im letting them use that disgusting spyware they only do web browsing anyways
For someone like that (who only uses their computer for web browsing), I imagine you could go install Linux Mint on their PC, theme it to look like Windows (like as shown in this video), and they probably wouldn't realize what you did (at least until, maybe a couple weeks later, when they notice that their PC hasn't nagged at them to update recently).
This will be very useful thanks to terrible windows 11 system requiremnts, it would be a good idea to also have the windows sounds too with this pack especially if someone wants their linux mint to feel like windows.
I agree. Good idea. I believe you could go into your startup applications settings and add the command “paplay [path to audio file]” (example: paplay ~/Music/startup.mp3). Though I’ve never tried this before on Linux Mint, so don’t take my word for it.
@@chefordinaryz5760 Yes there is! You just need to click on the sound icon in the panel then go to sound settings and then there you'll find settings for every sound in the system
That's beyond the scope of this video (I could make a whole video about that), but I found this article that explains it much better than I can explain it in RUclips comments. Here's the link to it: www.xmodulo.com/change-boot-splash-screen-ubuntu-linux-mint.html
I loved your video, So, I "Subscribed," Clicked the "Bell" and chose "All" hoping to get the complete Windows Boot Screen, who knows you might decide to complete this video with all the bells and whistles
Unfortunately you can’t completely replicate Windows on Linux, but thanks to Linux’s unfathomable customizability, you can get pretty close to the look and feel of Windows. I think that’s a good idea though.
I don't think I want to make my LM look like Win - (other than Win like icon set which I do like) but this video is very useful for learning ways in which LM can be customised.
I really would like to dress up a Linux distro as Windows 11 and tell less tech savey family and friends that I can upgrade them to Win 11 for free... :) Get 'em off Windows and into Linux, since most of them would just use firefox or something to browse youtube anwway...
@@DrewHowdenTech You can get the Win 11 Icons, I believe I found those on either Pling or cinnamon-spices websites. There are a lot more themes there than available through the System Settings theme switcher.

Glad you liked it.
I like the new windows ui
I have returned to this video several time when making Linux Mint installs. Felt it was time to subscribe. Thanks for you excellent instructions !!!
You’re welcome, and thanks for the sub.
at 2:47 I seem to be missing the option for Window Borders and Controls. Can anyone help? I'm running Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.2
Seems like that control has been merged in with "Applications" under "Themes" > "Advanced Settings".
This man this legend, he will make my mint be more like windows
Can you add search bar to panel like windows on taskbar?
You could get application that provides a search function (e.g. recoll), and then put that on your taskbar.
Drew, you are a legend!
Thank you.

Not quite sure how to do that one. Good suggestion though.

You are a genious, my friend!
Thank you for this, moving over to Mint Cinnamon and absolutely needed this

must've taken days to edit that many jumpcuts. better than it being a 20 minute video

I dig the vulnerability. subscribed

I guess that would work too.

how to change bootlogo animation?

Hi. I cant change the folder icons in windows 10 look.
Using Linux Mint Vanessa 20.3.
Any idea? Thanks.
Do you have the Windows 10 icons in your .icons folder?
Awesome vid 😊
Thank you.
themes is not an option on my end, there is the icon for themes and appearances re the same but what's inside is very different
What's inside your "Themes and Appearances" menu?
Can you make a video about how you make that matrix effect in the screen.
Great idea! It will probably be in an “advanced Linux tips” video.
thank you so much for creating this tutorial, it's perfect
You’re welcome.
Excellent video. Thank you very much.

This looks like such a fun project
It is. And I am sure that this is something you will love doing.
@@DrewHowdenTech thank you I’ll definitely try it out!

It is truly unfathomable how much customization power Linux has.
@@DrewHowdenTech Agreed!
Just subscribed from this 11month old video. Just found you.
Thanks.
Nice
oh god the jump cuts.
There is just a lot of long moments of silence and errors that need to be edited out.
Super Cool Merci
Thank you.
Can u share wps office 32 bit for linux
Sure, I'll consider it.
Thank
No problem.

Me too. Sucks that there aren’t any Windows 11-like themes for Linux Mint (or any Linux distros for that matter).

It has Windowsfx it is linux but it looks like Windows 11.
@@DrewHowdenTech distro name Windowsfx

"i hit the bell"
That means you're already subscribed.
I subscribed!

Great👍👍
Thanks.
@@DrewHowdenTech well, you have not changed the application applet to a windows start button like applet
How can I do that? Even there is no applet available by default
why cant i use the icon windows master
Have you put it in your .icons folder?
I need Linux Mint theme for windows 10 😁
Or you could just switch to Linux Mint.
why is there like 10 cuts per second 💀
Because I tend to stutter a lot, and I don't want unnecessary boring moments of silence adding to the length of the video.
I came here to laugh at all the jerks asking "but why make linux look like windows?" But they never came. Huh!? Did they eat a snickers?
Why can't this be done much more simply?
Well, because Linux is not Windows, so Linux distributions do not have the Windows themes out-of-the-box.
