I added the Ubuntu iso file to etcher. And all I got was a white screen. So it didn't work
I didn't liked xfce, thank you
Urghh I gave up. Mine's Secure Boot is locked, cannot be change. It's forcing me to use Windows for the rest of my life. Damn I hate this.
Just curious, what computer are you using? On some computers, you may need to set a BIOS password in order to change the Secure Boot setting.
Why do u upload if you bearly get views dude I'm done
Hi! One question, you can use mods and plugins at the same time with softwares like mohist?
help "Could not get version latest does it exist? Try another version or use 'latest'" HELP PLS
What command is giving that error message?
Man...thanks from an old guy. The multiformat_save tip alone is gold and will save me a ton of headaches going forward. The view selection tip really ...really makes LibreOffice a killer program.
Drew, you should look into the camera more.
For some reason every time I try to run my installation usb, it just goes through a lot lf console text and always ends with "Unable to find a medium containing a live file system" and then gives me an option to "Attempt interactive netboot from a URL" except it never seems to be able to find the url. I'm really at a loss, but one thing I noticed is that after I flash the usb, Windows Disk Management says the usb only has a single partition of 4 MB. Is this normal? The iso is over 2 GB so that seems small. I downloaded the standard iso from the main page of the official website.
Is the flash drive at least 4 GB in size? Did you use Balena Etcher to create the flash drive? Did you get an error message during the flashing process?
@@DrewHowdenTech I downloaded it a couple nights ago and the file ended in 42. Their guide said you could download the Nvidia drivers later if it was a separate graphics card (which it is in my case). Today I went back to try the Nvidia file but I noticed the files now end in 43, so I was thinking maybe they pushed some bad files on accident? I'm about to try the new Nvidia file. To answer your question, my usb is 32GB. I used Balena Etcher, and even tried to reflash it with Etcher, and later rufus. There was never a flashing error, Etcher's validation said everything was fine. On an unrelated note, thanks for the minor note about mashing the boot menu key, I always tried to hold it but it never worked, but now I mash and it works like a charm.
Okay so I got into Pop OS at least. For some reason my 32GB Sandisk Ultra USB didn't want to work. The early command-line messages seemed to indicate the start-up script couldn't read it. I switched to a 8GB Sandisk Cruzer and that seemed to work. Does the efi partition absolutely have to be first? I'm installing on a 5TB backup drive and I already have some stuff on it. I shrank the existing partition but it's taking FOREVER to move. Not a big deal if I just have to wipe it, but figured I'd ask.
Awesome tutorial, I had to use Rufus to make the Gparted work with the ISO file. Although at this point I am finding it difficult to figure out how to format my only driver for additional storage since my computer does connect to the SSD and HD simultaneously. I cannot format using disk management as is not allowing for the option. wonder how can I fix this.
First of all, make sure you've selected your target drive in GParted (there will be a dropdown menu that allows you to switch between drives when you have multiple drives connected). If there is another partition in the way of your C: partition, you will have to move that partition out of the way before you can extend your C: partition. NOTE: You have to use GParted to do this. It cannot be done in Windows Disk Management.
doesn't work
What step are you having trouble with? If you are getting an error message, what does it say?
You have no idea how much I owe you for this video.
It's ok but I found it didn't work for MX Linux on an M.2 drive, however I did manage to recover boot using a live MX from usb.
my problem is the opposite, since I am a WordPerfect user. How can I format a document making each paragraph first-line-indent. Pressing F11 used to open a style-menu, one of whose options was the one I am asking you about. The version of LibreOffice I now have (with Ubuntu 22.04) no longer displays the same menu (besides a collision concerning F11, which in my desktop performs the function of making the current desktop full-screen). I have no longer found such a formatting option.
Go to Format > Paragraph, either change the first line indent to your desired size or check 'Automatic' for the default indent size, and click 'OK' to apply your changes. Hope this helps.
@@DrewHowdenTech than you very much
hey guys i needd help i wanted to make a live usb with parrot os and has persisitence storage and when i use rufus it sende me to grub and no cmmand works same as with etcher it works live but when i try manualy adding partition it just shows me grub and it dosent work
Sounds like you're having issues creating the live USB. If that's the case, it's a problem with either the ISO itself, or the program you're using to create the live USB. This video isn't meant to cover either case.
@@DrewHowdenTech thanks bro but I managed to solve this problem yesterday
Can I install mods on this OS?
You can, but that's a whole other process that's beyond the scope of this video.
Couldn't you just use gparted to resize the EFI partition prior to running the installation
Unfortunately no. For some reason, GParted isn’t able to resize the EFI System Partition.
get to it
Thanks, that was nice and helpful.
Thanks you very much for your work Only you have the fix for the Collabora not loading documents. I could not find it anywhere else, not even the Next Cloud forum
Thank you for explaining flatpaks, standard apps and how dependencies work within them.
You're down to earth and easy to understand. Thank you.
I will try it later. I lost GRUB for my truenas scale server
This is perfect. Thanks a ton. You should make a vid of windows wiping grub and how to reinstall grub
I actually already made a couple videos covering that.
It would have been much more simple and handy if the video contained everything needed for the process, as the linked video is about another operating system which is Linux not Windows.
Read the description for that video.
I'm setting up my Forge server with my friend but Routher wants password and I'll update this comment if we will get log in info
thank you very much. All your videos are excellent (but your sound recording is not good). Have you produced a video on refind? I by now have waived Grub, which is whimsical and unreliable. Systemd-boot may be a good alternative, but it's too complicate to implement. Whereas refind is easy and quite efficient. I fail to understand why most distros cleave to Grub, while Refind seems no to be the default boot manager in any distro, AFAIK
I've never covered rEFInd on this channel, but that would be a great idea for a future video. I think most distributions use GRUB because it's been the standard for basically forever, and it works on both UEFI and legacy systems--very important for Linux, since one of it's key features is the ability to run on old hardware.
@@DrewHowdenTech for mbr drives lilo is much safer and efficient than grub. I've been a Slackware user, with lilo, for 26 years. In just 4 months with lubuntu, grub has failed me quite often, many more times than ever lilo did in 26 years. Following your quite useful instructions has not always sorted things out, which has necessitated reformatting the inner storage and reinstalling the OS again and again. All those mishaps have stopped upon going in for rEFInd
As a lubuntu 22.04 user I've got just a few snaps. Moreover I've removed firefox, which I don't like. (I use mainly Vivaldi.) But such few remaining snaps as I have kept do not seem to be slow to open. Neither do they enter into collision with my theme, a navy desktop with no icons and no images. Perhaps Ubuntu 24 has too many snaps, but apparently with Lubuntu 24 you can dispense with snaps. Personally I fail to feel congenial with snap-haters. Canonical proposed snaps before appimages or flatpaks existed. Snaps may be useful. And they are free, even if the snap-service software is "proprietary"
brother my pc have a wifi dongle wihich is tp link ac600 archer T2U plus. when i installed ubuntu 24.04 it was not showing wifi connection sadly i returnd back to my windows. if you have any solution please let me know i want to try ubuntu
Try this: sudo apt install git build-essential dkms git clone github.com/aircrack-ng/rtl8812au.git cd rtl8812au sudo make dkms_install NOTE: You will need to connect over Ethernet temporarily in order to do this.
thanku for information
Also interesting would be a file server AND print server with Ubuntu that will ONLY server Windows 10/11 machines?
You can achieve this with Samba (though I’ve never tried the print server portion of it). Though, why would you only want it to be accessible from Windows machines?
is adding plugins to this a possibility?
You can, but that's a whole other process that's beyond the scope of this video.
Ubuntu 24.04 forces me to format the partition even if its the same format (Ext4)
While leaving the format as "LEAVE FORMATTED AS Ext4," type '/' into the "mount point" box, but do not click it from the dropdown menu that appears. That should allow you to reinstall Ubuntu 24.04 without formatting anything.
I must subscribe your channel for your helpful knowledge and clear explanation
I need help. It won’t work. I need this. computer! Please help
What part are you having trouble with? Are you getting an error message? If you are, what does it say?
NOTE: The instructions in this video for transferring files from your PC to your server are for Linux. If you’re on Windows, you will need to use an SFTP client, such as WinSCP.
Big ups for the tutorial. The recent released next-cloud version 8 has finally solved the collabora issue. Works out of the box
I came here to laugh at all the jerks asking "but why make linux look like windows?" But they never came. Huh!? Did they eat a snickers?
okay so how do i get the plugin files and stuff over to the server with WINDOWS
Using a program like WinSCP.
Excellent explanation! My problem started when i messed up my grub configuration files while working on the lfs project But thanks to you it wasnt a problem anymore! Thank you🙏
Can't you just use Windows built-in disk management to extend the partition?
If there’s a recovery partition in the way, no.
@@DrewHowdenTech Oh, well I'm a command line type of guy so I know how to delete partitions. But I guess third party software will do all that automatically.
You probably spend more time on doing cuts than making the rest of the video 💀
You literally saved me. I cannot think of better words. Thank you 1000 times.
how do i then connect to the server?
From on your network: Use your server’s local IP. From the internet: Use your public IP.

Asking for you input here.. When I find my (hd1,gpt1), and boot, it drops to BusyBox shell. My machine broke when I tried to time shift to an old version, I think I was using a different kernel. The ls (hd1,gpt1) looks good when I ls, all my files are in there, but I noticed a /timeshift at the end, that isn’t in your files. Any idea why that is? Any input on this would be great.. Thanks
Correction, it’s (hd1,gpt2) In the time shift folder, is snapshots/ snapshots-boot/ snapshots-hourly/ weekly, etc
Sounds like there is more missing than just your bootloader. Unfortunately, this tutorial won’t fix it.
When i try to mount my dev sda 3 or 2 it says mount: /mnt: wrong fa type, bad option, bad superblock on dev/sda3, missing codepage or helper program, or other error. dmesg(1) may have more information after failed mount system call
