    Ford from 2017-2023 “that hard shifting and clunks are normal characteristics of the transmission” Ford in 2024 “well we got a fix for the transmission and it’s a new CDF drum. Also, you are SOL if you’re out of your warranty”

    That transmission is in my 2021 Transit T350. It's currently at the Ford dealer for this very problem. The service tech told me this problem caused my torque converter to fail. The torque converter is known to have a weak stator from the factory anyway. The repair will cost me $8,843.00. I have talked to Ford corporate about financial help. I'm waiting to hear back.

      There is a TSB 22-2252, where dealership can flash the TCM, and has fixed that problem for some people. The flash fixed the harsh Reverse and Drive shift for me, but the grinding/vibration on the 4-3 downshift was still present.
      I had low line pressure b/c of the bushing blocking the fluid passages, and blew out the teflon sealing ring @@Jewalston

      @@o_issues_o Ok. I've been watching these videos between this channel and PTT on these 10R140 Trans for a while. I just called the dealer and set an appt. It's also extremely violent when it shifts into 4wd low. It yanks the entire truck forward.

    • @o_issues_o
      @o_issues_o 8 месяцев назад +4

      They can flash your TCM, and then you will need to drive a couple hundred miles for the trans to relearn shift strategies. If it continues to do this after that, I would say it is this CDF bushing, or maybe your valve body causing the problem. @@Jewalston

    Thank you for covering more on this transmission. I own one and it’s got me worried but more prepared now. Im usually the first to say extended warranties are a scam but it might come out cheaper in the end if I keep this truck for a long time.

    • @Chewvwy
      @Chewvwy 7 месяцев назад

      Ford should be offering an limited extended warranty on top of the power train warranty just for the transmission just because they've created so many problems with this design. If they really fixed the problem, it shouldn't cost them anything and it would show they stand behind their products. Asking the customer to spend a few more thousand dollars after spending an average 70k on their vehicles to begin with to fix a poor design I'd shady.

    Thanks for all the great content. Could I ask you to consider making a video where you detail the symptoms of the various issues with the 10R80? The different issues it seems to have may present differently.
    I have a 2020 F-150 and every once in a while, if I put it in drive from a cold start, it will act like it's in neutral. I'll give it a little gas and nothing...but if I let up on the gas and then hit the gas again, it works fine. Probably has done that about 6 times in the four years I've had it. The other issue is becoming more frequent (like several times a day). When I accelerate under moderate throttle, if I let up on the gas at the same time it upshifts, I get a muted clunk sound.
    Took it to my dealership and they said if I have them look at it, it's currently a 6-week wait just until a "transmission tech" can even troubleshoot it. Additionally, they can't schedule that tech to look at it and have me just come in when they're ready...I have to drop it off now and then wait 6 weeks to get it looked at...ridiculous!

    2020 Ford F-150 XL owner here. I like Ford vehicles for a number of reasons but I do not like everyone at ford. Just like how I also dont like everyone at ASUS even though I like their motherboards.
    I had some weird jerking around the 7-8th gear on the high way and I think I felt very little when I was driving in residential areas around gears 3, 4, and 5. I did call my local dealership and explained to them whats going on.
    Seeing this video makes me feel sick and anxious. my warranty I know is likely no longer around and I see myself paying an arm and a leg for this kind of repair.

      My 2020 ranger has had this issue since day 1. I took it to Ford over the last few years about it. They always told me "it's normal". I even showed them the research I did saying it's a bushing but of course that wasn't it.
      What happens with mine is 3rd and 4th gear. It loses line pressure (I'm assuming the hole that's blocked is it losing line pressure). And it feels like the whole truck loses power for almost a second, then comes back like it's normal. I had to take matters into my own hands after the dealer kept telling me they can't do anything about it. I changed the fluid to amsoil and pan to a better one and it shifts like butter. The line pressure issue remains, I hope they fix it for me this time ... After dealing with them about this I told myself I would never buy a ford again. Its been ridiculous

      The 10R80s are clunky by nature. They really only like to shift smoothly when harder on the throttle. But if you got a 3-5 skip shift slamming that's due to the CDF drum. Also going into 10th gear and if i remember right if you get stuck in those higher gears 8-10 then CDF drum is probably causing clutches to stay engaged

    Great to know after doing a couple of these, having the customer spend thousands and then realizing they all needed full rebuilds instead of just the stupid valve body like the TSB said.
    After dealing with this shit I will never put another valve body in a modern vehicle again. Full rebuild or fuck off. You cant diagnose modern transmission, you have to pull them out and take them apart and rebuild. There's no way to determine if the valve body is at fault or the planetary gearset or anything else while the tranny is still in the vehicle.

    Does anyone know what company makes this upgraded drum or have the part # ? I'd like to make sure this fix is done correctly the first time. I hear so many stories of people having their transmission fixed or replaced and then it goes back in.

    Hi I have a delayed shift from 5-6 also when I put into reverse the truck jerks, i took it to the dealer and was told if it just needs an update it would be $300 and warranty would not cover updates
    And if the update doesn’t fix it then they would see if my extended warranty would cover it
    Do you know of an update fix shift issues? And if I can get it done cheaper else where

    • @adrianarreola7467
      @adrianarreola7467 4 месяца назад

      An update COULD fix it but it's rare. All the update is gonna do is clear the valve body memory and try to relearn how to shift. If it doesn't fix it then at best a new valve body is needed. Otherwise it would need a tear down to see if, i think it's A clutch that's messing with 5-6

    I'm truck shopping right now and thought that I wanted a 17 and up F-150's with a 10 speed. Until I drove 2 2019's back to back and they both had jerky shifting when under no load at lower speeds. When starting to accelerate it would jerk into gear on both trucks so now I'm shopping for a 2015-2017 that have the 6 speed transmission and have the 5.0. Any problem with the 5.0 for those years?

    • @adrianarreola7467
      @adrianarreola7467 4 месяца назад

      Nah 6R80s are less problematic. They're built with stronger internals that won't wear as easily

    I have a 2020 Ford Transit 3.5 Ecoboost van. Will I have the same trans issue and does this TSB mean to bring it in even if I don't have a complaint or WHEN I notice an issue. My van is still under warranty...

    • @adrianarreola7467
      @adrianarreola7467 4 месяца назад

      TSB means if you take it in for a shifting concern this is something a tech has to do in order for warranty to cover it. Like a troubleshoot step per say. I would take it while it's still under warranty and complain about the shifting so that it gets taken care of

  • @wingnut2339

    Would this be covered under the 5 year 60,000 mile powertrain warranty?

    • @AbjectMaelstrom
      @AbjectMaelstrom 4 месяца назад

      If you're still in the warranty period (milage/years), yes. But, it'll have to have symptoms of the TSB and they can replicate them. If they can't, you're not getting anything new without paying for it.
      Unless they turn it into an recall after enough failures.

      I've been quoted from 6300 to 7800 between 3 dealerships. I'd look into indie Ford shops, one near me guy is a ford tech and was doing these for $3600.

    Took it to the dealer several times until the dealer admitted that there was a problem and Ford was working on it but would not admit it has a problem.
    It was the only vehicle I ever returned after the lease was over.

    So will this stop the hard shifts on the 2019 5.0 when you are around 30 MPH and the Powerboost shifts extremely hard through every gear? Just figured it does that cause it’s new and learning. Idk it’s just weird to me
