- I purchased this tree climbing harness at the beginning of this year and I am finally ready to discuss my experience and share my thoughts on the harness. I hope you guys find this video helpful in your purchase. Also, check out August Hunicke on RUclips!
Good review man. I'm climbing on my first saddle, a monkey beaver 1.0
I'm 68 years young. SRT/MRS
Thanks, dude. I've been drooling over a MB harness for a while. Great review, but . . . well, never have heard anyone talk about "getting rid of coffee" before.. LOL
I remember when I worked in Grants Pass, Or. and I was working with an Arborist and he was a Two Time Champion in NCA. I’m respectful and his goodness! New Tribe was his Sponsor of this saddle and wear it back in the Bridge Starter and the Pads. 👌👍❤️. New Tribe still around for a good?
The second saddle is a Weaver Cougar which I rock. Love it but I put a rope bridge on it by adding two Petzlopen rings.
If you have suspenders on the MB Harness to get in to it I hold the belt up by the suspenders w/ the bridge facing towards you step over the bridge then turn the belt as you pull it while putting suspenders on. I find it the easiest to get into as well as most comfortable harness I ever used.
I hadn't thought of that.. I'll give it a try, thanks!
Wow, great in depth review! On my wannabe list.
the guy knows what he's doing👍💪
Love my Monkey Beaver 1.0. Great vid bro
Good to know I can pee on the ground guys in this saddle. Great video bro
Great review. I absolutely love mine. Just thought I'd point out that the rope bridge uses double overhand stopper knots. I don't like stepping through to put my harness on either, so I just untie one side of the bridge... only takes a few seconds to re-tie.
That's a good idea..I don't like stepping through ( or risking stepping on ) my $800 MB 2.0 😂 so I'll probably start undoing my bridge knot
I do the same thing. It also forces you to inspect your bridge every day and rotate for even wear. Most climbers will run their bridge in the same orientation unit it wears through. It's so nice to put the saddle on like a tool belt instead of stepping through leg loops.
Just put a CT rolling lock on there with 7ft bridge..adjustable
Or a wild country rope man
yeah that’s a good idea and it forces you to check your knots but just remember to have a good tail on each side don’t want that life support to slip :)
At least you have some forestry pro in back ground .that gets points .best all around rigging rope and half-inch is climb line as well. Alot of new age cats don't know but the Canadian loggers used that rope long long ago and still do..
I have the black buckingham saddle from the beginning of the video. The company I work for gave me a newer Buckingham that I absolutely hated, so a coworker gave me the black one (which is what the company used to issue years ago). It’s what got me started in climbing and my instructor used it once and told me I should get New climb gear but I really enjoy it. I have never tried a monkey beaver but I just can’t justify spending that much on a saddle when I have one that works.
I used the black saddle since 2011 years. It failed on me yesterday. The sewing to the bridge from your hip let go. I was done and repelling down . Didn't fall but went wildly sideways. More embarrassing than anything. If yours is old replace it regardless of cost.
There's no other saddle as comfortable period...especially adding on the velcro inserts leg pads it's beyond any saddle little warm in summer but everything included ing pants are it's just hot..best work saddle in production ..with suspenders it's not matched by any other..unless you just do trimming pruning...nothing compares
you got a lot of lights in theat garage.... thinking when you do something.... you like it done right.
I need to see in there. LED lights were so expensive for no reason I figured why not use led light bulbs. The whole area cost me the price of two little led strip lights so yeah I'd say I went the right way.
You want it to shift some lower the leg pads it's far better.the rings can be switched for bigger rings.i use double bridges with swivels and rings ..it's better than running on bridge and less wear. Get some swivels it's game changer
"My 201TC fell down to the ground from 40 feet up". Thats like dropping a normal saw off the back of the truck, so you're good. 🙂 They're heavy, but solid!
Money well spent. Very important bita gear i rekon.
Nice Review, thx comrade. Greets from Germany
Advice: put a swivel on the bridge, I've used one for more than a decade, only replaced it a day or two ago because I replaced a bridge and noticed after over a decade the metal in the swivel ring was getting THIN, so I advise replacing it every decade 😂
First of all those metal snaps are far safer them those newer aluminum 3 action snaps ..climbing arborist had one fail along with others ...secondly you showed a weaver cougar and that bridge you complained about can be taken off and you can put the same rigging paws rock exotica that monkey beaver has or any other kind u want.3rd the m o nkey beaver is the best I have 3 old and new .but the cougar can be turned into a 0.5 version..the modular back pad allowing custom hangers on new beaver is key..4th in comments and the video everyone is talking about stepping in ..BUT YOU DONT NEED TO.the monkey beaver can come with a adjustable bridge 7ft with rope grap or you can use a CT rolling lock like I do with zippties works great got that from my buddy Richard mumford. He uses it Daily..and finally you don't want your leg pads tight .that's the point of the new beaver saddle s as well to run them loss and the extra strap keeps them in place .it works great designed by joe
Do you have measurable evidence that the steel snaps are a "far safer" choice?
I'm assuming they go through the exact same quality control tests before hitting the market.
One guy having equipment fail doesn't necessarily represent the truth.
@@harambereincarnate ask around if your in question..they try to make things safer and go to far .to many guys have had them fail .never heard of regular snaps fail .I prefer them as well and ball lock carabiner s
@@harambereincarnate don't know anyone that uses them or have in 30 years. But tp each therr own .was just trying help.know the saddles very well going on 4 years of beavers.did extensive research before as I always do.
I don't use the triple action snaps. Those are way too complicated.
@@easyeddystrees sounds good .man just talking amongst tree fellas
Rock on!
Somehow I missed this video when it dropped -- good stuff buddy, and perhaps the only tutorial on peeing out of a tree :)
I cut the chin strap on my kask helmet and re-sewed the cap on the end.
Outstanding!!
Great review man, What boots are you wearing?
Haix XR200 Airpower. They are very comfortable and you can get the original insoles if you wear them out. But lots of chips and debris falls down into them when you're working and there is no high-top option.
Instead of stepping through mine..i may start putting it on over my head so i dont risk stepping on it . And it wont touch the ground..you have to baby an $850 harness 🤣🤣
the guy knows what he's doing
Fair.
You don't SRT? and you pee on your groundies???!!! Lol jk, great review man!
only when I really have to go and it's too much trouble to climb down and back up.
Yer spose comp climbin movin constanly. Different than sittin one spot fair while. Ive got a petzl. Its ok but the beaver is the go' thanx
Dude i stopped useing 4 d ring saddle in 1998.
Is that Bridge ring some sort of a joke? Its literally useless, it actually doesn't do anything to make the saddle any better! This looks like an amazing product with great quality and thought put into it... So for that ring to the one they chose to use. It really doesn't go with the rest of the saddle. Yes it can be removed and u can get aftermarket. But on a saddle at this price point. That shouldn't be something you should have to do. If it were just a smidge bigger. I think id give it a 10/10 review. So even tho i have a bit of a gripe with it. Its very minor and i still rate this saddle right up there with the Tree motion pro.
😊
Stay safe...
Since you said you couldn't find anything that could make the ISC triple-action snap function, here's a video from Climbing Arborist where he had one fail:
ruclips.net/video/auJSkFitGGo/видео.htmlsi=Z_Y4F9MLbFn9TM0t&t=200
That's a triple snap. I don't use those and the failure was of the third action.
@@easyeddystrees Ahh... noted!
Yeah it’s the triple action part for sure, I had the same issue with mine. Ironically the less safe double action is way safer, never had those fail.
Suspenders go on first ..fella
thank you :) idk I just put my legs in first because I don't know how to get my legs inside the bridge with the suspenders on.
Who pisses out the tree?!? lol no way you’re pissing out the tree while your doing residential
Do it all the time in the backyard 👍🏻
@@Chill_Insiders_Mom doing residential tree work? That’s professional 😅
l want to get one but the stitching always looks like a 3rd grader did it. never straight and always wavy, l want perfection if l’m putting my life into it.
