@@yellowdressbookstore6602 uh, madam I traveled up and down Santa Cruz mountains for a construction job for over 5 months. Tiny roads that barely leave two cars to pass each other. And yes, one side has NO guard rails and it's a straight drop off. That was not a "one time" deal there. That was every day up and down that mountain, up and down. So yes, I do have confidence because I had to deal with that. Every day. And no I was NOT on the phone crying to my "mommy" about how scary and dangerous it was. I was focused on what I was doing instead of crying like a wimp.
Apparently I didn't die like you were hoping it seems. Not only would someone like you, endanger your own life, you'd be endangering the lives of others.

    • @alainarchambault2331
      @alainarchambault2331 Год назад +181

The only reason I'd engage a cabinet maker is for building in additional efficiencies, practicalities and sturdiness for the road.
Most people looking at "van life" here are going to be young adventurers or pensioners staring at the realities of life on a pension. Going to a cabinet maker wouldn't be at the top of their list. Most would do it on the cheap.
I'll be a pensioned Canadian nomad in a few years and I'm already considering my options. Personally, I wouldn't consider anything less than a 16' cutaway van, and I do have a few ideas of my own. Though putting together what I hope to live in full-time seems daunting at times.

Pro tip from a crackerbarrel employee: 1. As you probably know we have RV/ larger van parking 2. We sell certain medications and chargers behind the counter 3. If you don’t have utensils and want to make a togo, ask for cutlery kits! It comes with a fork, knife, napkin, and sometimes salt and pepper packets. 4. I have found that Cracker Barrel’s are fairly safe places and sometimes we get maps that show where every Cracker Barrel is at in the continental United States, but obviously in this day and age you can also look at a virtual map. 5. If you need directions you can always ask one of the employees. They are usually locals! Be safer out there! ❤

Girls know we are capable of not going into tomcat mode, therefore it has to mean men aren't. So in lesser female minds (saying this as a female who had to decondition myself despite CPTSD), the logic is that men are all L4D zombie bosses trying to chase and attack, and they will not attack each other so long as there's a woman. And since the thinker is a woman and can't get out of her bubble, therefore men will never be attacked because she is always thinking in her hypothetical.
Everyone knows men get attacked too, for the same and different reasons. But somehow women take acknowledging that as lessening the risk of rape and pregnancy that we face. I'm here to say all violence is morally wrong, it doesn't matter who does what or is privileged or any other classifying qualities and boxes you want to check, anyone can be a victim at any time. That doesn't mean live your life in fear, it means be prepared for the chance someone around you does feel entitled to you.

People don't "sleep on top of a toilet".
And any van with room for a toilet, can EASILY place it at a distance from the sleeping area.
I KNOW because I've converted TWO VANS.
Most people live in a HOME where the Master Bedroom has a TOILET LITERALLY 10' or LESS from their bed.
The POINT isn't the distance. It's whether you prevent ODORS, which is readily done with a composting toilet where you can hear ENDLESS TESTIMONIES that they exude ZERO SMELL.
ANY toilet in a van can be placed on an enclosed space and positively vented (e.g. PC Fan) to the OUTSIDE to ABSOLUTELY PREVENT ANY SMELLS.
So WHERE you place a toilet can be irrelevant.
Additionally, human beings can LEARN to PLAN instead of REACT to nature's call. That's how, in 6 months of traveling, BEFORE I HAD A TOILET AT ALL, I only ONCE had to dig a cat hole instead of simply using public restrooms in stores and gas stations.

If it hadn't been for our heroine, Lucy, the fearless pitbull, I would be dead.
I was so lucky! Always get a gun and know exactly how to use it, repair it, take care of it, and keep all your documentation handy at all times. The police were very adamant that dogs are great protection, but sometimes get shot by burglars, so its important to have back up!! My husband is a total softie who is completely quiet and introverted, I really liked that, and we've been happily married for 35 years, but I have been in so many potentially dangerous situations. I was out walking our dog one morning at ten am, and some strange guy walked up and wanted to pet my dog. I said she wasnt very good with strangers, and apologized and the guy whipped out a hand gun and pointed it at her. Then me, then her. I was like, "what the hell is wrong with you???" I was NEVER going to let anyone hurt my dog. He realized, I think, that I was seriously not going to back down when I got in front of her and stood my ground. I was horribly frightened of course, but I still wasn't going to have it. He just got really uncomfortable (HE'S UNCOMFORTABLE? WTH??) and put it away, claiming he was "joking".

I was a solo trucker for 3 years (similar hardships to van living), and I never got lonely. I'm an introverted person, so usually being around other people makes me uncomfortable, but if I ever wanted to interact with my own species, I just went to a restaurant or bar and tried to make a friend for an afternoon or evening. I never had to cry about being alone and if you do, this lifestyle is clearly not for you. It is obvious that you can't cope with the solitude and should return to a less nomadic lifestyle. The only reason I stopped driving truck was because I developed really bad sleep apnea and no longer trusted myself to stay awake all day while driving

I thought of that too. The only things that can sort of be used as weapons would be the rubber mallet and that flashlight, and I'm giving the benefit of the doubt by assuming the flashlight also has a stun gun, which is not an effective weapon anyway, but women tend to love them for some reason.
