Apparently, according to microtech, and everyone I’ve ever read about their OTF knives… slight Blade play, and button wobble are considered normal and intentional for operational purposes. I have no idea if this is verifiable on our end or an appropriate statement. But at least they have responded to these concerns. They say that it is normal for operation because it helps it become more reliable on deployment. I read somewhere that one person broke down as to Why this was the case by saying “if it was completely rocksolid, it wouldn’t always fire accurately and lock up and could compromise. It’s reliability” Again, I have no way to verify these claims. But it did calm me down a bit because the only reason why I had a problem with the wobble and the noise is because I thought it wasn’t normal, and felt that it should be rocksolid. If it’s intentional and is for the betterment of the use of the knife, I’m OK with it. My main problem with this knife is that the side buttons are completely useless when trying to fire the knife. When looking at this knife and understanding that they put three points of contact for the actuator… One would think that you could use any side of the knife to deploy it. This isn’t the case in my Experience. I’ve tried multiple times to deploy the blade by just using one of the side buttons and it does not work. You need apply constant pressure down the middle of the spine of the actuator. In other words, you need to hit the center slide on the spine to activate it. You can’t even pull it back close with just one of the side buttons. Now, if you put two fingers (one on either side) you can bring it back in. I don’t know if this is a problem with everyone, but this is my only real concern because it seems like it should work from every angle of the side slide buttons. At the end of the day if you’re not happy with it, you’re not happy with it.
First video I've seen with that defect so you're correct towards the end in suspecting it was perhaps just your item. They do have a nice lifetime warranty for anomalies such as this, but it doesn't come with clicks. Update us after you get it back from them?
It's an entirely new design, particularly with removable side plates. Perhaps they couldn't put a spring into tension the button from the slide but I'll agree that given the dollars spent we should have perfection or darn near near it. Thanks for pointing this out and I found the same thing going on with mine....
I am writing a complete mea culpa - I posted way back on this video that I like the Glykon but the rest of Microtech’s OTF’s look like gas station knives - I was completely wrong. I bought an Ultratech and immediately fell in love with it to the point that Microtech is above my beloved Medfords and Chris Reeve knives. The torture tests tell you all you need to know and since my first, I now have 4 Tanto Ultratech’s, 2 Cypher II’s, a Merlot Combat Troodon Warhound, a Gen III Troodon, a Socom Elite Auto, a last gen LUDT and a Gen III LUDT and have a Glykon in transit. Microtech offers multiple blade styles, added titanium in the Glykon, the new natural clear finish, and I am completely blown away - I assumed because I live in PA and couldn’t have an auto buy as soon as it was legal I got one and I was 1000% wrong, Microtech is a really phenomenal company with equally phenomenal knives!
i much prefer a harder-to-deploy switch over a knife that might go off in my pocket or in the hands of someone who doesn't know what it is (like a child or curious person). it's good hand-strengthening exercise anyway.
Just wondering if the OP ever figured this out. I have this model and mine does not do this. Looks like there's a few other people out there who have it and don't have this issue either. Maybe they got a counterfeit or maybe there was an issue with the model earlier on since it was 6 months or more ago. Certainly not an issue with mine. It's a pretty sweet knife. They can pretty much charge whatever they want since there's no alternative to this model. Typically people who buy knives at this price point or beyond aren't really complaining about price but I would be angry if mine was rattling like that hopefully they just sent it back and got it fixed or replaced.
I was under the impression that this model was going to be the answer to everyone complaining about button issues. I thought this was going to be a solution so people with less dexterity and hand strength could enjoy Microtech Knives.
I had a lot of the same thoughts that originally drew me to the knife. Honestly, the slide isn’t awful-the sound is what bugged me most-but it’s not any more accessible (maybe even a little less) than the Ultratech slide in my opinion. Oddly, I think the Hera has the best action and the best slide, next to the Dirac Delta.
I am a engineer in a totally different field. I am dreaming of a knife with a button that has a adjustment screw that will adjust the strength to fit the comfort of individual handlers.
@@ohthethingsyoucancut1740 yeah, I would definitely purchase a knife with a tension adjustment screw. I believe it would have to be built different from current models, making the spring that pushes the blade out and draws it back in separate from the button tension. It would make the design different from Microtech to avoid trademark and copyright infringement. I believe it without so, any current manufacturer just based on that idea alone. You’re more than welcome to the idea my friend. I have way too much going on in my life to plan and follow through with anything more than what I am currently working on.
I also own both as well as the regular Dirac and both Diracs in my opinion are far better knives, the ease to open and close is far better on them but the lightning fast speed of operation on the regular Dirac is my favorite and with its smaller size and light weight is a better EDC option for me
I bought a 2800 USD Marfione Cypher with stainless steel handle and mirror polish blade. The handle is assembled by using 2 pieces of steel, just like other Microtech OTFs. You will not believe that the two pieces of steel have offsets on the side of the handle, I can clearly feel the step when my finger sliding on the joint . The cause of this problem is that the screw hole on front side of the handle is too big. I don't see this problem on my 300 USD Ultratech😂
Hey your knife shouldn’t rattle…. Just got my Glykon and absolutely no rattle. Send it back. My knife is proof they can do better than that. Figured you’d want to know
Yeah, I’d say it’s just a little harder with the Glykon, but only a little. For both knives it can be hard to retract the blades at first. For me, some practice and time and my thumb got used to it and now I can do it without a problem.
The Glykon is extremely easy to push and pull back compared to CT. Way smoother. I just don't like the tri button because its not necessary as the action is smoothe and easy.
It helps to turn it sideways and use the side of Your thumb at least until You get used to it. I also noticed the UTX-85 has less tension on the switch as well.
Same on my mine. Only time I hear it is if I really shake it hard and even then it's minimal. Also one thing I noticed on the side buttons if you're right handed to deploy using the side buttons make sure the side button is on the left side not the right side when you deploy it because the angle of the button fits into your finger better to fire it. If it's on the right side, it's much harder. Honestly the top button is comfortable enough to me, more than the combat troodon button. Also it's easy to retract using both side button at same time.
Pretty much all but the Dirac have some wiggle in the slide, but they use a spring to maintain tension on the slide to prevent it from rattling. The Glykon has no such spring. It seems that mine had a loose slide, so the slide rattled when other Microtechs wouldn’t have the same problem due to their spring.
I like the design but I want that knife same design But I Want that knife to be bigger and more Heavy Duty. Tougher thicker longer 12 inch long handle and 11 -1/2 inch long diamond blade...
Just ordered a clone of this knife, own two other MT clones and for $60 Canadian I couldn’t be happier oh and you get the tool included with every knife, can’t justify spending $500us for a knife never mind ones that rattles
No it's not. All replicas have a 3 piece switch, which is different from microtechs 1 piece switch. An the box is correct, the clones come with a greyed out eagle tallon box instead of the red on the OG.

Mine does not rattle. And I’ve been fidgeting with it for quite a while. This is the most solid OTF I have ever had.
Dinging deep to knock on it … most if not all Microtech are hard to open . As much of a pain in the ass it is. I’m glad they’re like that.

I’d buy that knife. One of my personal dreams is to make the perfect OTF automatic knife. Maybe it will have an adjustable slide/spring.

Someday…someday I’ll get to it. I hope. xD That’s the dream. Thanks for the idea!
Yeah, as soon as I heard the word "fidget factor," with those soft-looking hands, I can't take this video serious
The guy complains it may hurt his thumb? His hands look a bit soft.
First OTF purchase. Would you rank these from best to worst? I'm not sure which to get.
Glycon, Manticore, Scout, Autocrat.
Maybe add a bit of thick grease on that part and it should stop it from rattling.
Which is better, This or the troodon??
I also own both as well as the regular Dirac and both Diracs in my opinion are far better knives, the ease to open and close is far better on them but the lightning fast speed of operation on the regular Dirac is my favorite and with its smaller size and light weight is a better EDC option for me
Dirac is my next MK! I have a UltraTech, LUDT and MSI so far
So half a microsecond is too slow for it to open and close?🤷
The slides are "painful"? 😂
Tell me youve never worked a day in your life without saying those words....
Yeah those soft buttery hands have never seen an honest day's work

Jimping Bob here, have you tried the pep rampello arsebandit 4000 automatic stealth from dom mini technologies? Half the price of this
Hey your knife shouldn’t rattle…. Just got my Glykon and absolutely no rattle. Send it back. My knife is proof they can do better than that. Figured you’d want to know
where can buy it i never see online
This knife is very hard to find right now. Whenever they become available, they sell out almost right away. Keep looking and you might get lucky!
Is it hard to push out the blade? compare to combat troodon. I just bought combat troodon today and it is so hard to take the blade back.
Yeah, I’d say it’s just a little harder with the Glykon, but only a little. For both knives it can be hard to retract the blades at first. For me, some practice and time and my thumb got used to it and now I can do it without a problem.

If your glykon is harder to fire and retract than a combat troodon there's something wrong with it...
My Glykon has no issue of shaking on the slide button
That’s what someone else said, too. I’m starting to think I had a bad one… :P
Same on my mine. Only time I hear it is if I really shake it hard and even then it's minimal. all microtech have play in the button

Mine doesn't rattle either
I have one and it doesn't make a sound.
Mine has the sound. I have a Deadlock too tho and it has a sound. Different but a sound none the less!
How much for your glykon?
I like the design but I want that knife same design But I Want that knife to be bigger and more Heavy Duty. Tougher thicker longer 12 inch long handle and 11 -1/2 inch long diamond blade...
send it in....mine doesn't make any rattling sounds ....
Great job brother I think I'm going to get me one ❤
Literally the clone in my hand doesn’t rattle at all when closed or open 😮 wtf
They don't do shine on their graphics
Valid criticisms!
I just got a Chinese Glykon and its one of the high end fakes lmfao !!! There is no rattle whatsoever open or closed !!! $60 lol
Mine does not do that.
I think mine must have been a lemon.
Is that a fake
Mine does do that at all.
Watched other reviews and no rattling sound from their knives.
Yes, I think I got a lemon. :/
That's cuz it was real not fake
The fact that you needed to pull it a tool voids bunk they sendyou tools
Imho, Microtechs OTFs are too hard to deploy
Grow some balls
I'll buy your knife
Also the side sliders are way to hard to push.
Right? It’s a problem.
its soooooooooo, GIMICKY!
My thought about this knife is it’s way overpriced I would never buy one I think the knife industry has gone out of their minds.
Just ordered a clone of this knife, own two other MT clones and for $60 Canadian I couldn’t be happier oh and you get the tool included with every knife, can’t justify spending $500us for a knife never mind ones that rattles
It's a good rep
First of all your glycon is a rep I seen the box it's not right
No it's not. All replicas have a 3 piece switch, which is different from microtechs 1 piece switch. An the box is correct, the clones come with a greyed out eagle tallon box instead of the red on the OG.
I just got the Glycon clone and Halo clone off wish and they are identical to my friends.
Any chance you'd be able to hook me up with a link?
No they’re not lmao!
Liar…. Lmao!
Their not tho it's about composition not saying microtech is the top just check components😊
Until you open them up....
