Ressler seems to be getting a lot of fame these days. I hope that brings more people to Douglas' work.

There may not be a single "look" to a murderer, but there are similar personality traits and some physical traits. They have NPD (Cluster B Disorders) and you can learn to recognize the personality and physical traits of NPD after studying it.

@@thedesertwarrior7447 Finished it. Amazingly put and explanation makes it so easy that even you can consider yourself a profiler for a while and walking around looking at people, who are perpetrators and who aren't, trying to distinguish. I finished two of his books, and now onto other two: Obsession and Into the Darkness. Learned a lot from this chap from extensive perusing on days where I was bored. In a sense, you are kind of a profiler now because we've insights that other people don't.

Need to check out Robert Ressler, too. He & John Douglas were the pioneers in Behavioral Science.
Robert Ressler's book, "Whoever Fights Monsters" is phenomenal.

John Douglas, Park Dietz, Robert Resseler, all made the difference in turning the tide on the 20th century killers they called Serial Killers. Read so many books, including Ann Rule's books (she worked with Ted Bundy at the Suicide Prevention call center).

He talks about how fake shows like Law and Order are...and how accurate Silence of the Lambs is...Law and Order SVU is ridiculous...one is just tramples the Constitution, but basically he says it presents a ridiculous profiling example, as do so many of these shows, just like with forensics. Artistic liberties need to be conservative. He suggests things like Silence of the Lambs, Poe, and Sherlock Holmes to get an idea of the profiling mind.
