I think you nailed it with Tesla. It went from a cool company promoting saving the planet to pretty much a status symbol/moral high ground for people to feel like they are helping, when in reality it really does little to nothing to actually help the climate.
doing "little to nothing" is still better than outright harming the planet via ICE cars. Plus as the world moves to renewables their positive environmental effects will only improve. Like here in Norway its free to charge your car and its 100% from renewable (hydroelectric). That being said i aint no tesla fanboy, i just like facts. Like imo both sides (tesla stans or tesla haters) can be just as stupid as each other.

Well the series 1 jag xjs had unreliable electrics due to *cough* *cough* British Leyland *cough*
People think of the XJS as the big fast Jaaag from the 80s, simply because there wasn't a better car from Britain at the time.
In reality it was outdated when it came out, it stayed in production for too long, and it was badly built.

@@TopCarsTV it was the opposite of outdated when it came out, being too advanced to really catch onto the public. It stayed in production long but so did everything else at the time, volvo 240, c4 corvette etc. In fact it was more popular at the end of its lifespan with it selling more and getting more favorable reviews. Can’t agree on it being overrated.

Never had the chance to drive the G wagon, but just sitting in in made me feel claustrophobic. It’s truly amazing how such a big car gives you less rear leg room than most compacts.

True but it will serve you for a good twenty years then you can sell its at with 50K in remaining equity. Two cars if you can afford and can take care of this and the 911 base or S will be always hold their value even if you get. 30 percent apr over five years you still will have equity in the car after two years.

I agree with a lot of these but when it comes to the corolla he failed to mentioned that corollas have been known to last more than 300,000 miles with no issues. Toyota and other Japanese companies like Honda and Mazda consistently have higher quality parts, that are still cheap and readily available. Korean cars are definitely falling behind in long term reliability. That’s why boring cars like the corolla and Camry are so insanely popular bc most of them are still on the road. I think Toyota has certainly improved their design recently though but you still get Toyota reliability
The Corolla being overrated is bullshit. It’s not an exciting car, but I don’t think it’s overrated in terms of value for money like this dude is trying to say.

Yes, but taken side by side with its other competitors, such as the Civic and Cruze, it cannot brag about its excellent reliability nearly as much now, and the Civic and Cruze had more standard features

I hate that people buy them instead of wagons, they're so pretty but people buy cheap japanese crossovers because they can go offroad, yet they never see a blade of grass...
High driving position, practicality, more capable- there is a lot to like in general about suvs but personally i'd prefer a estate/wagon

The other problem with the Smart ForTwo is the truly impressive unreliability.
Considering that it is also made by the Mercedes Benz group, this really shouldn't come as a surprise.
Huge problems with the electrics (because they're sited just where the water runs off the windscreen) results in even warm-weather problems because of the corrosion on the whole system. It's a design flaw that apparently can't be fixed, just like so much of everything else Smart related.
Besides, Smart was never intented to be a car company.. It was a watch brand!!

Smart started as an idea by the Swatch brand to build a "Swatch Car". At that time it was touted as a Swatch car.
When the Swatch company realised that building a small, arty car was beyond their capabilities, they persuaded M-B to save the project.
The actual NAME for the Smart company comes from an amalgam of S(watch) M(Mercedes-Benz) ART.
That means that even the original concept was the combination of the two companies. Ergo, you are wrong. By the time the first prototypes were running, it was already a joint venture, and M-B was involved right from the running prototype stage.

I owned a Brera. And it does nothing well and was crazy heavy on gas. The 3.2 sounded amazing but the car was way too heavy with the 4 wheel drive. Was beautiful though
I find that you can get a smart for two done by brabus quite interesting, hell the car is designed in some capacity for them to work on it

He's especially right about the price of Fortwos. They are way too expensive for a car that small (I mean seriously, first-gen Fortwos cost as much as 2000 euros. Maybe 1800 if you're a good enough negotiator. I'd much rather get a proper car that's longer, more powerful and actually even slightly newer than a first-gen Fortwo for roughly the same amount of money.)

Fastest gentleman's club on wheels, I got pulled once doing 130MPH down the A1, my speedo was knackered(when did the electrics ever work eh?) in the middle of the night when I thought I was under a ton. I would have used the fuel gauge and power gauge to check but they weren't working either.

G Wagons we’re never meant to be anything other than a status symbol.
Jaguar XJS V12, Toyota AE86 Trueno, and Jeep Patriot. The XJS is so horrendously unreliable and its V12 is very underpowered, and engine access is so terrible it's only second to the 300ZX. The AE86 is known for being an excellent drift car due to its near perfect weight distribution, and it has a dedicated fan club thanks to Initial D. But at the end of the day its still just a slightly modified version of the Corolla and is very slow. The Jeep Patriot's sole consumers are people who can't afford a real Jeep. It has a terrible CVT, cheap interior, underpowered engine, and it went a whole decade without a single redesign before it was discontinued in 2017. I don't know if someone already guessed these cars, but oh well.

F&F series contributed a lot to this, if the same hype was there regarding the R32 skyline instead of R34, it would still have been considerable taken the fact that the R32 was quite revolutionary and had a lot of actual track success

DAventador44 agreed the gtr is a great car but it is seen as the Jesus of the car world they portray it as an untouchable legend. They also put a tuned gtr against a stock sports or super car and they count it as a fair race but when it’s the other way around it’s suddenly unfair, also Tesla’s are overrated. I once met someone in the Mercedes ad agency(i.e. they were clients at the time). He said it was quite amazing: Mercedes in Germany fill every niche and are well-regarded, but not as 'luxury' cars (except for the S class.) But, Mercedes chose to take that road, used ads and pricing to reinforce it. Until recently, as a result, there were no affordable Benz's.

I like the Smart Fortwo, because it's one of those cars that immediately tell you what to expect from it's owner - and in this case nothing good.
Something I'd like to add to the list: Audi A3/TT Quattros, because they ain't quattros. They use VW's Haldex system instead of the Torsen differential, along with the understeering.
Also, a bit controversial, but: E46 M3. Don't get me wrong, they're good, but the hype is insane. You could buy a cheap 330 or even a diesel, give it a bit of aftermarket love and you can have more fun on tracks than with a stock M3 - and wouldn't have to deal with BMW's M taxes on certain parts.
I’ll take an E92 M3 over an E46 M3 any day

I love what was said about Tesla and EV's in general. They can tout them as zero emission vehicles all they want but if the energy comes from the grid there are emissions. People just want to virtue signal. Plus the mining for the materials for the batteries to give them at least marginally acceptable range require a ton of environmental damage. I think if the market was left un molested by big government, media and tech the eventual winner for the medium term for transportation energy would by fuel cells. But that would cost too many big companies too much money.
I agree with absolutely everything except the 86. You gotta actually know car culture to have heard of it, not many people recognize it as much as you’d expect. Also I may be biased, but it looks stunning irl :)

I agree with your opinion on the smart ForTwo. The older versions are all very uncomfortable for the passenger and the car sounds like it’s about to explode. I don’t know if this happens on the newer ones

1- is a really cheap car compared it with other cars like the Golf GTI/R, civic SI or the TT (Here in south america atleast)
2- you compared it to an audi tt and the tt is a coupe and the brera is a hatchback and of course the tt is gonna be faster
3- IMO it has a really good design and the only bad thing is the interior like what u say, but honestly, who cares about the interior xD

I once had a Smart ForTwo as a rental car when I had to let my car at the garage. It was a "sequential gerbox" version. Damn that thing was a pain in the butt 😂

I worked with kia and toyota in dealership parts departments. Corolla is not overrated it's earned place. Kia on the other hand has recently, by comparison, become a decent car. They used to come off the truck needing a new battery the next day and sportage made my monthly commission checks pretty good. I still prefer toyota but now it's personal preference not the fact that you'd spend half your time at the kia dealer using the 10yr 100k mile warranty for all it's worth.

I get the feeling many cool cars are now overrated mainly because their prices have been insanely inflated over the course of the years, and it's true and pretty sad. You know a car is gonna cost you a kidney if everyone wants it, even if it shouldn't actually cost that.

If you have an electric car you've got to have solar power (or other) to charge it otherwise there isn't much point in having one
it really all depends on where you live. Here we have a lot of solar, wind, gas, and even a few Nuke plants. No coal or oil in sight. I actually use an electric outboard on my sailboat rather than an unreliable gas one.

Solar panels production makes huge amounts of CO2. (watch some documentary videos about solar production)
EVs are heavy and have enormous Tyre wear (more CO2)
Production of EV makes 70% more CO2 than petrol car,
Summary: Electric vehicles produce more CO2 than petrol cars.
I would like to add that Hydrogen fuel cell cars are even more sustainable than both hybrids and electric vehicles.
More Development of technology would take us to a better future

The g-wagon is a statement. Everybody knows it isn't the greatest off-roader out there, but when you see a g-wagon you automatically think about money. That's the whole point of that car. Also, the smart is very good in finding small parking spaces to fit in, which is its only reason of development. The rest is true tho, especially the tesla, supra and the wrx sti.
yes, hybrids are better than electric cars, same with hydrogen fuel cell cars but except of course if there were more hydrogen fuel stations
The problem with hydrogen fuel cell car are the hydrogen manufacturing. Because hydrogen are so hard to create the energy you get from isn't better than BEV (even thought logisticly hydrogen are more energy dence the the best battery cell).
Im not saying that electric cell car are better than hydrogen fuel cell car, i think that hydrogen fuel cell car is for the FAR future of transportation.

I have a 10 year old Corolla. It has unrivalled quality build and reliability and does 6L per 100kms. It is not ‘boring’ to drive. It’s responsive and has sports mode. I’ve had a land rover, two Audis and a Volvo amongst others but the Corolla has proven to be the best by a country mile!
As a subie fan in general, what you said about the wrx (and the sti version) is really accurate! I cannot deny the fact that it's fun as hell, and that's you don't buy those cars for interior quality but still, they do be quite overrated in 2020 and not up to date. Hope it'll get better in the future for the model / Get a real renew but I sadly don't think so.
They should use interiors such as the outback onyx xt definitely, with the similar motor base but pushed way more and that would be a subarist dream!

ikr. People so them as some amazing pieces of art when I think that most of them are just crap. The Skylines were behind its time and had older tech than others. The Supra has good tuning potential but you can say any car is good if you include heavy amounts of modding. AE86 is a overrated corolla. I could go on but can't be bothered

To be fair, Supras USED to be amazing because most of the cars back then were not powerful at all. We all thought Mustang Foxbody 5.0's were fast until you realized they were 225 horsepower and a modern sedan can smoke the boots off that car at this point.
it may be true that tesla does emit some co2 somewhere else too, but lets not forget aswell how much co2 is produced from: Oil rigs and Oil refining.
Refineries produce other oil products too, not just fuel for our cars.
Switching to EVs doesnt mean that we will shut those down
The CO2 production is transferred to the powerplants and electricity distribution companies. Not considering the pollution caused by mining of the rare earth materials used in making of the battery (s). I am sure the children mining cobalt in the Congo would very much appreciate a tesla

I agree on every last word you said other than the Supra. That is such an icon that there is nothing anyone can say or do to ruin its name ( other than making a newer model and slamming in a BMW engine in it but those are details :D )
