If I may be allowed to sound like a lustful teenage boy..I still get shivers when Yvonne musses her hair on the 2nd bridge & brushes it back smiling and never misses a beat! A beautiful, sexy woman and a flat out CLASSIC pop song with one of the best hooks ever written! Essential.
Sister Yvonne Elliman, your beauty, as well as gifted talent made disco so special especially your classic, thirty-eight years ago.All the best, Yvonne.
i was 12 when this song was released and i vividly remember it so much, listening to it now brings back great memories of what life was like for a 12 year old lad,im a huge fan of 70s music and i truly agree that yvonne was back then and still is now a really beautiful and attractive woman with a fantastic voice, its a song that wont ever be forgotten and you never get tired of hearing it.
Simply great, song and singer. She had such a lovely voice for pop like this and her other big hit from the Jesus of Nazareth show I don't know how to love him.
The pure genius of the brothers... Every man and woman on the planet has had this thought...'if I can't have you, I don't want nobody'... Yet it takes pure genius to write the words down and make a song like this, and when you hear the words you say 'why haven't I written this already?' The Gibb Bros, beyond compare, their songs will be remembered throughout history, mark my words...
Absolutely, couldn't agree more, everything about it is brill! About par for the course when it comes to the FABULOUS Gibb Brothers! Best wishes, keep listening to the stellar sounds of The Bee Gees! Unbeatable!
Love this video...and thanks for posting this gem:) Yvonne Elliman is a terrific talent...and a rare beauty. At midpoint, her playful tousling of the hair between 1:28 and 1:32 displays her special way of communicating her poetry, of connecting with the audience.
This song was written by the Bee Gees and appears on their Saturday Night Fever album in 1977 performed by them. I have to say that Yvonne's version released a year later is the one I prefer.
Weird. I love Rock. Alternative and old hard rock. Alice in Chains, STP, Soundgarden, Zepplin, AC DC, etc... But there is something about some of the old Disco hits that stirs my soul, this one does for sure. I have always liked it. Someone out there must relate to me. I'm 46 years old, back in high school days I would have never admitted to liking any Disco hits.
That is the beauty of music -- I didn't go to that school, that country -- but listening to songs we like takes us to our own "that place and time," whatever it might be for each of us. Music unites us in a common place from which to begin, and the whole world needs some of that, sometime. Anyway, I, too love this song, and Yvonne Elliman, may she rest in peace.
I have always loved Yvonne...beautiful woman, beautiful voice and a beautiful person overall. This song evokes so many great memories as well back when I was first dating the girl who would become my wife...and still is my wife! 31 years and still in love! Thanks you Yvonne, for the music of my life!
This song brings flashbacks to me when I was in my early 20's and always drunk and wasted. But this song always hit my heart a little bit and I always liked YE.
I've ALWAYS loved this lady.. she is one class act. You should have seen her on a PBS show highlighting the 1970's music culture. She came out and sang this song. I SWEAR I had tears .. just brought back some great memories from that decade. I was in the US Military stationed overseas for pretty much the last half of the 70's. I missed A LOT of the disco scene.. but we heard the music. Yvonne.. you are awesome!
Mario, I'll be about Slayer/Danzig/Pantera/Suicidal Tendencies until the sun sets on my life, but this song ( along with anything by Mary Wells and Roy Orbison) is solid as 4 inch thick steel. Great stuff here, bro, great stuff...
Bro, you don't know the half of it...first let me establish that my first love will always be metal, I was inspired by Iron Maiden to pick up the guitar and I love listening and playing Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Megadeth, SOAD, Metallica, Tool, AIC etc...I was a kid in the late 70s-80s. Now that we got that out of the way, I'm a sucker for what a lot of fellow metalheads would call corny songs like Emotion by Samantha Sang, Dancing Queen by ABBA, Lady by Kenny Rogers, Hopelessly Devoted by Olivia Newton John and those types of songs. I think a big reason is that they remind me of my childhood and my parents but they're cool songs IMO. I used to hide that from my metal bandmates (back when I played) until I found out that the drummer was a huge fan of Niel Diamond and the other guitarist loved the Carpenters, lol It's all good UP THE IRONS ! \m/
This song defines the disco era and the 70s so well that I literally disassociate back to those times. I'd give up ten years of living in these shitty times to have 2 - 3 years from those times.
Yvonne, this song, the Bee Gees, Donna Summers, KC and the Sunhine Band notwithsanding. Thisr song, Your voice alone , defined the 70s disco era. Although You were not a "disco queen".....this song defines the era. Thank you for your lovely powerful voice and this song!!!!!
+Zac Efron The 70s and 80s tunes were perfection. The had meaning about true life, lows and falls of life Simply Red My old mans shoes, singing of his dad.Moneys too had to mention.Greg Edwards Capital Radio. If you want too music listen to this music.Brings back happy memories.
Ah, the disco days. I found myself dancing in my car with my 6 year old in the back dancing and knowing the words to this song. I was very young at the time this song came out about 13 but how I appreciate it now.
One of an explosion of quality compositions that came from the Gibb brothers (Barry?) in this period. Yvonne Elliman nails this one, and when you see the artist in the video, you just know that the song found the right performer. Melody, beat, arrangement (the usual Gibb excellence), with just the right lady, for definitive delivery...
Well I assume you mean "lip-synching" - and she IS most definitely lip-synching!! All of the performers on this TV show (Top of the Pops) did that with their own songs... Sorry to disappoint you!!
No, you most certainly can not.. BUT you probably should read this quote straight from the BBC's own website: "It has long been considered a weakness of Top of the Pops that bands (and solo acts) would be asked to mime to their own records on the show..." Case closed.
This is live baby......not lip sync. If you cannot tell, then that's just too bad. That backing music is a live band as well. The live backing singers suck......IT"S LIVE......
Ian C you are very dumb for thinking that this isn't live. Quoting Lakeside, "It's all the way live." Listen to the recording and then come back and listen to this. The key of the song on the recording is slightly different than her singing here. Additionally, you hear the drummer making those hi-hats move more than what they do in the original song.
I can't believe this was 33 years ago!!! great voice!!! I've never seen this footage until recently. She stole my heart at about 1:29s (the move with the hair).
muy gratos recuerdos, fue una gran epoca para mi es una gran cancion, me hace llorar de emocion. saludos para todos los que aman la buena musica., desde monterrey, n.l., mexico.
Music is so disposable now two clicks of a phone or mouse and we have it at our disposal, back in the day we had to invest time and effort to buy a record or tape and listen to it. If a song came on the radio or TV we would stop what we were doing and listen to it because we did not know when we would here it next. It's a sign of the times that we used to know the names of singers, drummers Guitarists, bass players etc. in most bands. Now its just a producer!!
Brian Griffin Bit before my time but my mother would always tell me of how she would listen to the radio waiting for certain songs and record them haha. I was born in 99, so have had music at my fingertips most my life, but I still love listening to records. Nothing beats the sound from them!
They gave it specifically for Yvonne they were going to give her how deep is your love first but Robert stigwood said for them to record that instead so this is the one they gave her
Beautiful woman, great singer, multi-instrumentalist and-oh yeah-recorded & toured with Eric Clapton through much of the 70s! Definitely more to Yvonne than what casual fans of this song knew!
Im 63 years old and remember the GREAT music, movies and tv shows too....Agree with all the good comments! Check out The Three Degrees; Wheen will I see you again! Stay Happy and Healthy everyone!
Her vocals are so beautiful i miss the days when 99% of singers was passionate about their music .
So your saying singers nowadays aren't passionate about their singing ? don't talk stupid man .
And most of them were fully clothed.
AND EVERYONE SOUNDED UNIQUE.
Finally, I've found it. Thank you. It's a beautiful song.
Wow what beautiful harmony and melodic singing with no autotune. got to respect her singing
Another good song remember the John Travolta's heyday saturday night fever it brings back the good old days, thanks for sharing
Yvonne grew up in Hawaii and has certainly made her people proud. What a beautiful person and a beautiful voice she has
Yvonne is Japanese
@@LillyxxxoShe's Hawaiian. Does she look Japanese
Singing live on TOTP. Gone even further up in my admiration for this legend
Indeed. At that time the BBC orchestra had to be used if possible. So its live which makes it even more impressive
Essential.
I'm 23 and can't get enough of this. Before my time but you know, it's beautiful regardless. The lyrics are just so real. :)
Check her out in Jesus Christ superstar
Wonderful song, bringing back so many great memories. Thank you for sharing.
Special and talented ❤
I was homeless in the '70s, and I love this song back then. I'm now 62 years old and I still love this song.
Every second of the song is good.
I love this song. Great lady.
She is from Hawaii...and she is beautiful with a #1 hit.
Doesn’t get better than that!
One of the best female voices of the last 50 years...no doubt!
This song was playing on the radio last night.
Sister Yvonne Elliman, your beauty, as well as gifted talent made disco so special especially your classic, thirty-eight years ago.All the best, Yvonne.

I've always loved Yvonne Elliman. What a lovely voice. And this is one of my favorites from back in the day.
in my opinion the best disco song of the 70's,great song with a wonderful melody,so many memories, thank you for posting.
My late beautiful sister loved this classic 70s track from the legendary Saturday night fever sound track by the underated brilliant Yvonne Ellimon
Simply great, song and singer. She had such a lovely voice for pop like this and her other big hit from the Jesus of Nazareth show I don't know how to love him.
How brilliant is this performance? Wonderful!
To dreams that never will come true...... wow, what a line

Yes, great song words..but a BRILLIANT tune too!
Absolutely, couldn't agree more, everything about it is brill! About par for the course when it comes to the FABULOUS Gibb Brothers!

Brilliant song and definitely the most attractive woman of the late 70s.
Beautiful song from a better time, the 70’s.
I am in love with this song !!!
She is so pretty.
+David Feeley aye, aye...
She's a beaut and no mistake.
Dude she's but ugly Mariah Carey bitch
Check her out now. Still attractive
I couldn't agree with you more. Yvonne is too damn beautiful
Takes back to a time when things were so care free. Great song.
When artists sang live and were brilliant. 70s music is amazing!

Timeless!.. this song is immortal and was ON THE RADIO in NZ today 👍🎶🇳🇿

Classic song takes me back to living in Budingen Germany going to Gelhausen elementary School

The weird thing is that I'm a metalhead, I've played in metal bands but I love this song, lol
Nothing to be ashamed of Pal, class music knows no boundaries, it cuts right through.

I'm still in love with her, since those old times. This is my favorite song, clap, clap...
I heard this song when i was a kid. It was just bustin' in my head one day so I had to look it up. Still a bad ass jam! And Yvonne Elliman is hot!
A true classic in vocals and song writing for the era
when time and thought were put into music, how I miss those days.
Yvonne is an amazing artist....I love this song. Thanks for the great memories.
Songs like thèse Just appear like out of nowhere.Like they Just visit us from another planet and then disappear. This song is out of this world.
Loved that song...the swirling orchestral arrangement was amazing. Disco haters would have had a hard time disliking such a powerful song.
this is what the 70s was all about , , beautiful girl singing a great song
Someone take me back to the Seventies...
Dar deslike nesse vídeo é não ter noção alguma do que foi essa época mágica !!!
What a smile!

One of the best pop/disco songs ever. Factoid: The Bee Gees wrote this for ABBA, but Benny and Bjorn said no as they only do their own songs. x
The BG’s wrote it for SNF soundtrack.
They gave it specifically for Yvonne they were going to give her how deep is your love first but Robert stigwood said for them to record that instead so this is the one they gave her
I really miss this beautiful lady's voice. She was a actor, dancer and singer, and she did it all awesomely. 😢❤
No Brasil fez muito sucesso essa musica que tempo maravilhoso :)

Me complace de sobremanera saludar a esta gran dama de la musica londinense como lo es Yvonne Elliman. Que gran cantante
Yvonne . . . The diamond from Jesus Christ Superstar - "I Don't know how to love him" Such an amazing singer
Wonderful. The best live performance of this classic record. And she looks about 8 months pregnant too - so talented.
I don't think she was pregnant there
Nossa a tempos que não ouvia essa musica...eu adoro
Wonderful voice and melody. I wrote her and she did answered. She is a sweetheart who now lives in Hawaii.
