We (my GSD and myself) drove to Phoenix (700 miles round trip) to attend a Saturday Class with Hans! Sooooo worth the drive. His knowledge of dogs is phenomenal. By following his videos and now attending a class my GSD is revealing the true dog he is. No Other trainer could do this. Thank you Hans. Look at his web site, buy his videos. There are very easy to understand with step by step instructions and THE REASONS behind the training. Logic and Nature!! Your dog is looking for a leader!! Oh and the movie on Temple Grandon where the squeeze method comes from is a wonderful movie I highly recommend it. Thanks Hans--

Thank you for the wonderful podcast. I'm so glad you introduced Dr. Temple Grandin's work: she used her autism to see how environmental stimuli caused distress in handling livestock animals and what heeded to be done to solve those obstacles from the animal's point of view. Watching her and other trainers, I have noticed many correlations between concepts in dog training and working horses, like pressure-release and other methods adapted to meet the training needs of each particular species.

I'm a new subscriber after watching a couple of your videos.
My late father trained German Shepherd dogs in the British Army and never gave treats either.
He too said that rewarding the dog with a pat and praising them means so much more to the dog.
Looking forward to watching more of your content.
    Thank you.

I discovered this effect by accident during a thunderstorm. We were in bed and I laid my head on my dog putting pressure down on her body and immediately felt her muscles start to relax.

I used it accidentally too, my dog leans into me when we were sitting and I hugged him just a squeeze with my arm around him.
I then noticed him leaning into my leg in any new environment. And I automatically “hug” him with my arm pressing against him. I always thought he was leaning against me as a hug.

Very good advice! I've done it before unconsciously, but now I know what to do with it. Very helpful. Thanks!

I have done this with my current dog without realising that it is a known method. It's also used with babies, particularly newborns, when they "fuss" when they are swaddled firmly they calm down. So interesting

I don't normally listen to talks because they are long winded and boring but I really found this interesting.

    Another gem fellas, thank you.
I love it when you say, "ok, that's it", then go on for another 10 more minutes. Them last 10 minutes are always as good, or better, then the beginning!

Very good I have for some time now been watching your videos. My experience in K--9 as dog handler and trainer goes way back the 1970s, but have been out of the loop in that way for some years. But I get it in being all your saying. It may be at some point I will touch with you about getting a dog. I have been wanting to move back into K--9 again in a some what similar way as I have once done, but only as a past time and only for reasons of the pleasure I receive in doing it.
    May God bless!

Thanks for these videos, I believe that I am learning a great deal about German Shepherds and how the breed has been “watered down” over time here in the U.S. I really hope that you can write that book you often reference! As an aside, the term announcing meditation at the start, or finish, of budo keiko is “mokuso”, not “fukusou”and, basically, means “empty your mind”. Looking forward to the day I can bring a German Shepherd into my home.

I am so happy that I discovered your channel and I am planning to purchase your video on proper leash use. For several months now, after multiple training sessions, I have not been able to improve th behaviour of my 4-year-old Ridgeback's leadh reactivity towards other dogs. Recent training sessions have been unsuccessful. I live outside the USA, so I am very grateful for your content. @@hans-alpinek9real

Thank you for such precious advices!👌🏻❤️ It definitely give sense and it really have to work. Because animals if they feel fear, so they hide in group and pressing bodies towards each other. This do cows. Maybe it remind them protection of whole group. And same about dogs. My dog if he felt fear, so he went close to me and then pressing self on me. I always pressed him more and it's truth. He became calm. But I had no clue that we do it. It was subconsciously.👍🏻
