@@ThaiThoughts The majority of Thai people are wonderful, the government however hates foreigners! The worst part of Thailand is the government has it all figured out how to milk a foreigner until he loses all his money and must leave! They also know how to screw a sick foreigner out of his money and his insurance! They require insurance, and when the foreigner goes to use it the government will send them out of the country because they can deny them for any or no reason! And so the Thai insurance company kicks back money to the Gov individual who does this and they all save money and the foreigner loses everything, sometimes even his own life!

This is a valuable video. I am from America and have visited Thailand several times, but I am still surprised by how much different the two countries are in certain ways. I am sure that for some tourists, the differences are very challenging and confusing so this video will help them a lot. Personally, I have found the Thai people to be extremely kind 90% of the time. But there are problems, of course, and the traffic is one that is challenging. It can be dangerous, and I noticed Thailand has a high rate of traffic fatalities. But I still love the country deeply, and will be returning often. Thank you. 🙏🙏

Six months ago, completely unprepared, I spent two months in Thailand. Now I'm getting ready for the trip again, and in the meantime I've watched a mountain of videos on RUclips. This one is by far the best and perfectly describes exactly what I experienced. The heat I wasn't prepared for, the language barrier (many Thais "speak" English which I didn't understand at all), sugar in huge quantities which will bring many, many problems to the Thais themselves... And I would add two more things I wasn't prepared for - the sea is too warm and does not bring any refreshment and cards are rarely accepted and you must always have cash with you. And yes, I saw a lot of foreigners who don't mind and are happy in Thailand 😀

5:25 language barrier and stereotypes: As a farang who has lived in Thailand for 30 years (longer than many Thai people) but moved to Thailand when I was 28 I can speak, read and write Thai fluently. As most foreigners can't do this Thais have already decided I cannot speak Thai even when I am speaking to them in Thai! What their eyes see and what their ears hear do not match their stereotype. When what your eyes see and ears hear do not match, it can be attributed to various factors, including cross-modal influence, visual dominance, and individual adaptations. In these situations, the brain often prioritizes visual information.

They then 'skim' an amount; for example if you had 750, they might take 150.... not enough that you would spot immediately. Last year in a 5* hotel in BKK, I had three piles of money (in different places) within the safe..... sadly they skimmed about 50% from each pile.

If you think Bangkok's roads were bad. In small cities are even worse. For example, i'm a Surinian. People in Surin drives like they've never once get a driving license in their entire life and it's probably the case. Especially the elders, they drive like they own the roads.
The sugar problem is indeed a problem. Idc about it at first, but as i get older. I'm starting to see some young people getting diabetes and it woke me up to the sugar in my daily life. I'm limiting my exposure to it now. I read every product description before i buy them.
And the burning garbage problem, i don't think most people have a choice in this matter. I'm in a countryside. There's no truck to pick up our wastes. There's no waste service at all. This problem lies with the inadequate government. The bigger contributor to the pollution problem would be the burning of fields and even then, according to the satellite tracking. We're not that terrible in the region. It's still happening, sure but there're less of it now comparing to the past the surrounding neighbors are the much worse contributors. So, even if we stopped burning everything, the problem would still never go away i'm afraid.

    1) It is not a problem for most people because most tourists don't drive in Thailand. Thinking roller (especially without driving licence), Is less a problem in Bangkok but more outside of it.
I think this problem affects tourists probably everywhere else as in Bangkok.
    2) Water and beer are the solution...easy :)
    3) Know the prices or check grab/bolt app for an idea of the price and then choose. I had bolt taxi asking me more money while in the car as well so that "less headache" is disappearing very quickly.
    4) I believe only thai people "feel" the pollution. It happened i found Bkk smelly because it hadn't rained for a view days and saw it under the dome of pollution but never feel sick or had provlems because of it.
    5) That is not a problem limited to thailand but most tourist places. If you are not ready to do that, learn the language beforehand or don't travel.
    6) actually that is a problem for thai people because they make themselves look bad. I am only annoyed by this when i speak fluently thai and they still try to pull me over the table with wrong informations or prices.
    7) Again, if you are not ready to confront heat, don't go to tropical places. It is not a problem of thailand, it is stupidity of people not thinking before travelling.
    8) not relevant for most tourist because they not stay more than 30 (or now 60) days or they had to apply for a visa before coming to thailand. Only a problem for expats or people that want to stay longtime in thailand.
    9) This is something that mostly not appened to me because i speak thai and i break down barriers very fast but this again, it is something that make thai people look bad because A) not able to talk B) expect others to know everything C) don't see that thai people do many things that other people think is illigal /stupid/rude and even if we tell them, they continue to do it. "Khreng jai" in this situation is just BS. Please thai people change your mentality in this thing!
    10) I have to agree about this one. Sadly it makes it so that most tourists can not leave the beaten path of all other tourists. Outside of the tourist places, you can have amazing experiences. I will just make an example. I did pay a taxi to take me around Surin and i was visiting an elephant camp that had a lot of school kids there as well. Sitting on a table, some teachers started commenting on me because i was the only foreigner around and get shocked when i spoke thai. They told me that i should send the taxi home and spend the day with them for free.
    11) They can be upset as much as they want. I think nobody cares. As a rule, i usually only buy from vendors that have the price and probably compared them before i buy something. I only go to a place without price if i am lazy or it is the only vendor with that thing.
I have a love - hate relationship with thailand and sorry to tell you that, mostly because of stupid/wrong/lazy mentality of thai people and sorry again stupid rules you have that make no sense.
You spend hours and hours talking about many things and at the time you should say something (talking about point 9) you don't say anything.
You think somebody is smart when he can speak a little thai but still ask the double! price when somebody speak fluently thai with you.
Another thing that annoys me in Thailand is the "calling" or "disturbing" while on the beach or just walking on the street. "Hello massage", "taxi", "you want buy this?" or what ever. I even got woken up at the beach from a seller. I would put headphones in my hears when i walking but the street situation don't allow me to do that. Apart that, it make me feel stupid. Do thai people don't see you are a massage salon?? If i want to make massage, i would be looking for it before you are calling me and i have eyes!
Many people ask me about thailand and since years, i not suggest or say to not go to thailand because i know that the experieces people will have, will be wildly different.
I used to know people that did go to thailand 1 time and never again and people that did go 1 time and 100 times more.
I have to tell that in the past 10 years or so, i hear many people that don't want to go to thailand anymore or even people living in thailand that would like to go away.
Sorry to tell you but from what i see, thailand is going down the rating for foreigner tourist....

still trying to figure out... when is the best season/month to travel to Thailand? Is November a good option?

    • @Ippido
      @Ippido 3 месяца назад +10

November is cool but you may still get rainshowers and flooding. Do participate in Loy Krathong celebrations (full moon, lanterns). High season also means more expensive flights, hotels, less convenient money exchange.
December and January are the best, no rain, heat yes but bearable, still high season.
February and March are good but the heat is rising.
April is hot, Song Khran festival (new year, water splashing everywhere, for more days) great but it can be too long and annoying.
May June July really hot and humid, low season so lower prices and less tourists.
      August very hot, European tourists.
September and October, rainy season, it rains multiple times a day, floodings in Bangkok.
Obviously it depends on what do you want to see, Bangkok, James Bond islands to the south, north-east countryside (Isaan), Chiang Mai...
Remember to cover your legs and shoulders at the temples, no matter how hot. 🙏
Thai people are great, learn a few words, learn to "wai" 🙏
      Thailand is amazing 🙏

I am going there during September end - October start period due to some reasons and was wondering what would be some good places to visit?
I will be there for a week and apart from Bangkok trying to decide between Krabi or Chaing Mai to visit? I would appreciate any suggestions you can share. @@Ippido

You left out the latest scam in Thailand, the e-foil rental scam. When you rent an e-foil and then return it, they will always claim you damaged it and demand at least 60000 baht!
