We're fellow saxophone players! who knew? and I'm a baritone sax guy. That's one hell of a great horn. I play a King Super 20, tenor Dolnet Belair Tenor and a mid 50's "The Martin" baritone. King made great horns, I didn't realize they went back that far. Great work! great video!

So on these older horns, a lot of manufacturers produced horns that had a 'gold wash' bell. This is exactly what it sounds like: the inside of the bell is gold plated. In order for an instrument to be gold plated it must first be silver plated. This is because gold won't plate directly onto brass. That's why there is silver underneath the scratches in the bell.

    Dino , !!!
You are one of the greatest - I watch and Learn soooo much from you .
Do you realize ? ( perhaps ) that you should get commission for supplies that you help to sell ?
I have purchased ( other ) supplies from other vendors and there are some big differences !
Keep up the great work & I cannot wait to see your next video ;))

It’s called ‘gold wash’. I have some old trombones like that. King did this a lot.

You need a slide hammer. Solder a bolt or ready rod and you can get the exact placement you want. If you used a hot air gun wouldn't it tarnish the metal a lot less than a torch?

Hot air gun won’t burn lacquer, silver plating is very resistant to heat and the tarnish polishes right off.

Brasso is fairly aggressive. If you have any turtle wax swirl remover that is aggressive too.
