I’ve read that they fixed most of the focusing issues on the mark III. But I have no first hand experience to tell you it’s surely fixed. If you want 4K and an external mic adapter then the mark III is yours. I think the Sony ZV1 is also a good alternative to look at as well. If you don’t need 4K and wanna save some money then stick with the Mark II. I still love mine and have no issues with it luckily
I just bought the mark ii and thought to go tomorrow to Exchange it for the iii. I changed my mind. No much difference at all. Maybe only the mic. Thanks for the video.
I actually returned my canon g7x Mark 3 because the auto focus was terrible for my camera it ruined a lot of my footage from my trip to Cuba 🇨🇺 I definitely think the mark 2 is better and cheaper
MILEENA GLAM Sorry to heat about your ruined footage😪 the weird thing is, the focus box will be right on your face on the camera screen but it won’t actually be focused on your face. Makes it really hard to tell where it’s focusing until you watch it back.
HayArday Not sure what’s really going on with the Mark III’s auto focus. Both cameras were on the exact same settings with Face ID turned off. Hoping a software update from canon can fix the issues some people seem to be having with it!
I fucked with the video bro. As of now Nov. 2020, do u know if Canon resolved any of the issues with the Mark III? (autofocus, over heating, etc). I have the M2 and the only thing that kills it for me is the lack of an external mic port. I want to make the audio better on my Mark II on the go but it's hard to vlog on windy days with the M2. I wanted to attach a Rode mic to it but only the M3 would allow for this. I love my M2 asidie from the audio.

Honestly it really depends on how you want to use it. If you want 4K recording and an external mic jack then the Mark III might be a better choice for you. If you’re only going to be recording in 1080p and don’t care about the external mice jack, then keep the extra money in your pocket and stick with the II
I am hesitant to buy the Canon G7X MarkII as it does not have the external mic input but I think it is not really a necessity. I’ll still go for MarkII.

Picture quality wise they feel pretty much equal honestly. I no longer have either camera and currently use a Sony ZV1 and have had 0 regrets switching to it over 2 years ago! Might be another option for you to consider as well!
I agree the video difference is not that big, but I do lie the sound when using the microphone on the Mar III. How would you use an external microphone on the Mark II? I'm a newbie...how do you use a mic if you can not plug it into the camera?
Anthony Benitez You can use an external audio recorder and plug a mic into that Or even use your iPhone with a separate mic. You’ll have to sync the audio up with the video in post though. It’s a little more work, but can be worth it if you don’t like the built in microphone.
This is such a good video! I hardly ever comment on videos and you really did help me understand the difference.. Love how you filmed the entire comparison. Also, you mentioned that this is not worth an upgrade if you already have a mark ii. Honestly, I love that they added the audio output. Your audio quality sounded so good with the mic on. But now I'm thinking if it is worth all that money, considering mark ii prices going down!
Neha Desai Happy to help! I still personally don’t think it’s worth the upgrade. Not unless you really think you’ll need the external mic jack. The auto focus on the Mark iii was terrible. I have a full 4K test with it and you can see how it loses focus just while walking. It tends to like focusing on things in the background even though the focus square on the screen shows it’s on your face😒
The only way would be to use an external audio recorder and then merging the audio and video together in post. Personally I’m more than satisfied with the built in mic on the Mark II. Feel free to check out any of my other recent videos if you want to hear what it sounds like. It gets the job done!
It really depends on what sort of features you need from the camera. If you need an external mic and 4K video, then go Mark III. If you don’t need either of those features and only want standard 1080p, the Mark II will do that for you easily and save you some money that you can put towards a protection plan for it. Just my 2 cents🙂

I'm thinking bout getting the M2 or the M3, would u say the M2 is the best option to go considering that theres barely any differences for the extra price youll pay? And then also I see a lot of vlogging reviews on the M2 which it stands out in but barely any picture reviews, so therefore im asking, i know its very good for vlogging but is it good for taking pictures as well? Blackhawwk1 I think the M2 is the much better camera to go with for the money. The only reason I would say to get an M3 is if you really love canon and want an external mic jack. Other than that, the M2 is on par with it in my opinion. The M2 does fairly well with pictures too. I 98% of the time use it for videos and vlogging. But I haven’t been disappointed with the pics it’s taken so far!
I do still use mine all the time and love it! I’d recommend it still to anyone. All my videos on this channel have all been recorded with it unless I mention that I’m using another camera at the start. The price has also gone down on it since I bought mine which might make it even more eye catching to some people.
Hey mate if you're sticking with the 2 what are you doing about the microphone? Do you record that separately on to say your phone then combine in post?
Grant Ambrose I actually just use the built in microphone on the Mark II. You can use an external audio recorder if it’s super windy or if you just don’t like the quality of it and then combine it in post. But the built in mic isn’t too bad. It really only does horrible when it’s super windy. A wind muff can help with that a lot though!
Thank you so much for this video! Just bought the Mark iii but after seeing so many bad reviews highly considering trading for the mark ii. A big factor was the external mic jack on the mark iii but I saw a hack using an adapter on the mark ii to attach a mic. Have you tried that?
No problem! I’ve never actually seen that hack before. I recently upgraded to the Sony zv1 and it has an external mic port! I love this camera as well and bought it for the mic and 4k resolution

It just depends on what you plan on really using it for. For normal vlogging and videos, I leave it in Auto mode. For slow mo, I put it into manual mode and have it setup at 60fps with a 125 shutter speed
The best video of comparison between two cameras! Now I have a g7x mark 2, and i was hesitationg if I will change to mark 3. I expected some improvement on AF ability and stabilization, also image quaility, but there seems no difference! Do you also think there is no difference in AF, Stabilization, image quailty? Also, even though there is a external mic port, there is no hot shoe or somewhere to attach the mic!! It's terrible. I want to ask if it is a right choice to stay on my g7x mark 2. It doesn’t seem to be worth the upgrade in my opinion. I thought it was going to be better than what it turned out to be but that doesn’t seem to be case. Image quality and stabilization seem to be the same on both. Auto focus on Mark 3 seems to be worse than the Mark 2 right now. You can see in the clips that the Mark 2 stays focused on my face a lot better. I hope this helped you and thanks again for watching!
Mark II seemed a lot brighter on the photo of your car. The slo-mo for both seemed to be the same. Only difference that I see in the shots were the lighting on both. I like how clear and bright the mark III was on the last shot. Mark III seemed more stable when you were jogging as well. All in all a great video. Keep up the good work!
I like the feature of the mic input on the mark 3, but based on this review, it’s seems like with a mic plugged in it creates a little bit of a buzzing feedback noise. Curious if that was perhaps just with your mic or if that’s happening all around...
Great review mate! Has there been any updates on the m3? All I've seen is its autofocus is way slower than the m2. Id get the m2 if it had an audio jack. I almost got the sony rx100 but these cams have nd filters and are better in low light. Let me know if there's been any firmware updates please.

Yooo the MARK 2 wins....wow...clear difference to me. So the Mic input is the only thing that makes the MARK 3 better? I was just about to buy it but I think I will get the Mark 2 Now...Is the Mark 3 Newer though? Eliseo Way The main differences to really consider the Mark 3 would be the mic input, ability to shoot 4K, and 120fps slow mo. But other than that I felt like they shot pretty much the same quality. Yes the Mark 3 is newer. It just came out in August! I would honestly stick with the Mark 2 if you don’t feel like you need the 3 things I listed.
I cant decide on whether to get the mark ii or mark iii, honestly there isn’t much of a difference, the only upgrade is the audio quality, mark iii sounded much better. I make home improvement videos and i think i should look for a different camera cause i think the mark ii and mark iii are best suitable for someone who records on the go. If you’re looking for a camera to keep at home, the Canon T7i might be something to look at. Changeable lenses and an external mic port might just be what you need! It’s priced around the same range as the Mark II and III as well.

Glad to see another manufacturer phasing out that ancient circa 1927 framerate selected for recording sound on celluloid film which causes jitter most evident on panning on a gimbal.
If you’re going to be doing vlogs then I would say the Mark II would be the best option. There was a firmware update for the Mark III, but from what I’ve read it seems like the autofocus still isn’t that great.
Leave it to the Canon Gods for my mark ii to break over the weekend. I’m contemplating getting the mark iii but solely for the mic feature. Thanks for the comparison- I might just end up getting the mark ii again because I really loved it. Plus now it’s cheaper!

I had such a fun time transitioning from iPhone to canon. iPhone told me “storage full” all the time and it ruins my streaming. I so love the camera and it’s the best!!!! It’s so much fun vlogging now.

Not much changes. Only the color, external mic and stabilization. Autofocus on the mark iii is terrible.

When i take a picture it shows the snap for a period of time... is there any way to remove that so i can take pictures faster?

onboard mic for mark iii sounded way better than the ii. (so we pay a little extra for better mic AND mic jack).

Hi how can I activate the slow-motion or how it works!?
Put your camera manual mode, select 60fps, and then set your shutter speed to 1/125. Then you can slow it down in post while editing.
Glad to see another manufacturer phasing out that ancient circa 1927 framerate selected for recording sound on celluloid film which causes jitter most evident on panning on a gimbal.

If you’re going to be doing vlogs then I would say the Mark II would be the best option. There was a firmware update for the Mark III, but from what I’ve read it seems like the autofocus still isn’t that great.
M2 wins. Just on price. M3 overheats. Save your$$
Life Is Short I haven’t experienced any overheating issues in 4K yet...but I do know it’s a real thing that a lot of people experienced already🤐
Leave it to the Canon Gods for my mark ii to break over the weekend. I’m contemplating getting the mark iii but solely for the mic feature.

Auto focus is not to good on either. I have a MKII and fight that all the time. When it is on it does great. Will keep my MKII maybe try tge G5X MKII,

Maynor Tabora Yes it does. It was turned off on both cameras for this test though since I normally keep it off on my Mark II.

I had such a fun time transitioning from iPhone to canon. iPhone told me “storage full” all the time and it ruins my streaming. I so love the camera and it’s the best!!!! It’s so much fun vlogging now.

Nahum Reynoso I can’t actually give away my Mark II. It’s the only other camera I have that I use daily. Plus my channel definitely isn’t big enough to do a mark III giveaway either right. But hopefully one day I can do it!
