During my stay in Toronto, I had the pleasure of visiting the Fix Facial Bar, an exquisite downtown oasis that specializes in personalized skincare with a rejuvenating touch. The experience was truly delightful, especially considering my concern with melasma.
Opting for a therapeutic cleansing facial with a focus on lymphatic drainage, I felt a sense of tranquility and revitalization. As a bonus, I was provided with a selection of skincare essentials, including a nourishing day cream, a soothing night cream, and a gentle exfoliator that effectively eliminates dead skin without any harsh scrubbing - an essential lesson I learned for women's skincare.
What made this visit even more enlightening was the enlightening conversation with MC, my exceptional skin therapist, who shared invaluable insights about how pregnancy can impact the skin. I left the Fix Facial Bar not only feeling rejuvenated but also armed with newfound knowledge about caring for my skin during this particular phase of life.
The Fix Facial Bar truly exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to revisit this haven of personalized self-care and expertise.

Thank you for sharing this conversation with us. The internet can be such a cruel and unforgiving space. I’m excited to see you embark on this journey of extending yourself more grace as you navigate the changes that come along with motherhood and aging. You are setting a phenomenal example for your girls.

Shan you really inspire me with how you are with your daughter and how you power through doing what you need to do while still being present and inclusive of your daughter…I get so anxious of my daughter ‘misbehaving’ when we are outside that I don’t go anywhere with her if it’s not with me and her father and seeing you like this is definitely inspiring me to go out with my daughter alone and just power through like you do

I loved the conversation with MC. She has such a calming presence, I wish I could get treated by her. My skin is by far, by a landslide, my biggest insecurity.
Also, not to be *that person* but in case it matters, permanent is misspelled in the thumbnail! haha

Ooh, I can soo relate to this...
For me melasma started when I was on hormonal birth control. It got so bad that even makeup couldn't cover it. I didn't want to go off pill for a long time because it improved my acne situation. But then when I went off the pill, got pregnant, had 2 babies - both melasma AND acne came back... and wrinkles on top of that I was sooo unhappy.
I finally got rid of acne with half year of taking oral retinoids. Melasma got a little better too. Now my skin is the best it's ever been. But I use SPF50+ everyday, even when I stay home. Also I dye my hair red and have natural freckles, so melasma kind of blends in :)
You look beautiful Shan - inside and out. Thank you for this film and others. You create a nice place on the internet.

I had melasma mustache after my fourth child 10 years ago. It faded over time and now is gone. Best tip is to wear sunscreen and try to keep face covered in the sun. Any time sun would hit my face it was immediately darker. Your beautiful with or without the melasma❤

I’m 54 and my Melasma surfaced after menopause, many years later after having 3 children in my early to mid 30’s. I use to have glycolic acid peels in my 20’s a lot and my skin was amazing. Now, for the past 4 years I’ve used Retinol cream from dermatologist and that didn’t work, using drug store brands. Higher levels I can see slight fading. It makes me feel insecure for sure, and aging doesn’t help. I agree with MC, even though I’m married the loss of youth and agism hurts. Nevertheless, I refuse to use any sort of filter bc I want to be as authentic as I can and my 22 year old daughter will know aging is a normal process. Be brave ladies !!! 🙏🏾💗🤩

I haven't watched the video yet but I guarantee this is due to hormonal imbalance. You will need to reset your hormonal balance naturally without supplemental hormones. I suggest seeing a functional medicine doctor. Dermatologist or endocrinologist will probably only aggravate the root cause further as they will just give you Band-Aids to cover up your symptoms. You're the best Shan. Don't sweat it.

Thank you so much for posting this video. I’ve been dealing with facial discoloration at my upper lip for as long as I can remember (I’m almost 40), even before I had my daughter. I’ve always just covered it with makeup and called it a day, and I’ve thought about going back to the dermatologist to try and “fix” it. At the same time, the older I get, the more exhausting it feels to worry about it at all.

Shan! Love this video! You should look up dr dray on RUclips! She’s a dermatologist and explains skin and skin science really well. She helped me a lot when I was figuring my skin out. She actually has two videos on melasma. One is for products that help (but not fix and she will tell you that) and for the studies that are appearing in the dermatology world finding that visible light combined with uv are far more what’s responsible for melasma than we thought and recommends sunscreens that help visible light as well. She’s extremely scientific and does not buy into hype or anything like that.

I was so upset when I got mine... My permanent mustache. I blamed myself... I thought that with ripping my skin waxing and sun exposure it was my fault. My doctor told me that this was just under my skin waiting to come up... Probably wasn't even the waxing but I was determined to blame myself.
All the self inflicted torture over something I can't change. I avoided the sun constantly and "mentioned" it to anyone I was outdoors with...
I've finally stopped that... It was insane! I deserve to feel the sun on my face again in my life! I can't believe I'd accepted... I would never have sun on my face again and I would explain hiding in the shade to anyone I was with...
I finally decided I love myself... I feel the sun and not taint my social interactions...
    Sunscreen and let it go!

Thank u for this video an having this conversation… 🤰🏽changed my skin like no other.. lots of cystic acne and I thought postpartum it would go away.. it didn’t.. things are only calming down now slowly once I stopped nursing (after 2 years).. so no doubt my hormones played a factor but I do have marks that may fade but I’m sure won’t go away. Like you said I’m learning to shift my perspective but I’m so glad this conversation is being said and yeah I can tell ppl that these marks are due to having 2 babies in under 2 years- which I would never change. 💜

I actually have dark shading above my lip having nothing to do with child's birth. That area is also very sensitive for some reason to certain products. What I do have after pregnancy is more of a texture or porous look to my face which I did not have before. The body is a strange and amazing thing

I had a horrible case of melasma after my pregnancy. What helped was using a glycolic acid based cleanser and sunscreen, especially tinted zinc oxide sunscreens. I used Juice beauty tinted SPF 30 for years. Recently I have been using Laroche Posay uvmune.

Thanks so much for sharing Shan ! I’ve had melasma above my lip my whole life 🥸 😂😂😂I finally decided to see a dermatologist 3 years ago for that and some acne hyperpigmentation and my skin has never looked better (Skinceuticals products, 2 prescription creams and microdermabrasion every 6 weeks). No kids yet, we’ll see if that makes it flare up again LOL
