    That’s real, I start Norfolk on October 10th my family knows I’m getting ready to switch careers. Every article that comes out about the strike they send it to me, I almost backed out, but listening to your message inspired me to still give it a shot. The realist thing you said was “make your money and go home”.

    I just passed all my exams on Thursday of last week ! To any new hires/ people going to the training just be prepared. It’s definitely not easy and it shouldn’t be taken lightly

    I start training October 31 and all I’m worried about is passing my test.

      Understandable. It's not hard information it's just a LOT of information. If you study you'll pass. I have a masters degree and I was nervous... completely normal man. Best of luck in training!

    How far is the training from hotel for NS?Im set to start Sept 17th. Thinking bout taking my plane if its walking distance to and back from hotel

    • @KurtisCharlton
      @KurtisCharlton  Год назад +1

      It can be 3 blocks or 20 miles. Depends on where they put you up and you won't have that info until you are getting ready to leave. My drive was 13 hours each way. If I had to do it again I would take a flight and rent a car but I would never try to do it without a car. The horror stories I could tell you about people trying to uber or share rides with classmates. People getting sent home for being late. One guy shared a ride and his wife drove them both. Two weeks in the husband found out the classmate was banging his wife lol .... Car=Necessary.

    Do you think NS is slowing down training classes because of the pending contract negotiations? Been waiting for a start date since the end of August.

      Well I go down on Sunday for my 3 weeks. Haven't said not to yet. Lol.

    • @KurtisCharlton
      @KurtisCharlton  2 года назад +1

      No. Waiting for a start date is just a miserable part of onboarding. Start dates depend on the business needs of your terminal, how many instructors are available, how many people are in the next class etc. I’ve had guys get start dates two weeks after their interview and some waited 7 months. I interviewed in August when I onboarded and didn’t get my start date until late December for a January start. Unfortunately, it’s just a hurry up and wait game. The fact that it says awaiting start date means you got the job which is the good news👍🏻🚂

      @@KurtisCharlton thanks for the insight. I’m going to the Asheville location which I hear is slow. Hopefully that doesn’t mean I have to wait too long.

      Yes same here. I’ve emailed someone from HR and he said 10-12 days from my examination date. It’s been 13 days since then

      Don’t worry about it I was waiting since middle of June and didn’t get a start date until last week of august.
