Tabletop simulator! There's so many good workshop boards you can just load with scripts that make it so easy. You just paste a moxfield, archidekt, almost any link in and it'll export the entire deck usable in game
Honestly it’s the best way to play magic Easy to shuffle. You can ply any deck you can think off. Scripts for basic land tutoring, cascading, reveal till types and more odd scripts like legendary cascade for Jodah. Reading every card is super easy. You can modify each card to add power toughness counters change the printing. Import the tokens you need. You can scryfall anything in from cards to rulings. Codes to drain and extort for easy life tracking. Plus you can customize your cards to have sleeves and playmats super easy
I do beadweaving, and I use faceted beads (so they don't roll everywhere, lol) of different colors for different counters. Macaroni noodles work fantastic, though, and I used those, and coins, before I took up beadwork. Using the beads is just my personal preference now. I'm a slut for sparklies, lol.
The one thing I didn't see covered was tokens. For tokens, my group has InfiniTokens which are dry erase tokens that you can reuse and they're great. They also now have counters that you can reuse and update Overall, excellent video and I highly agree with your guys' recommendations (especially the satin tower, love those)
I just bought my first magic the gathering booster set yesterday. I bought the baldur's gate one. I'm really excited to start plaing. You guys and charlie make this game seem like so much fun
Cardmarket is exceptional! They also have a youtube channel that does really great magic videos. Its cool to see some magic personalities doing stuff that isn't always commander, really broadens your game knowledge and my appreciation for the history of it as well!
I too enjoy pinching the top and opening the crack. I'm a moxfiend for computer, and I use ManaBox on my phone. ManaBox is fantastic since its a mix of scryfall and moxfield, with a decent goldfishing tool behind a small paywall.
I have used Manabox for my decks and collection, its mobile only but does a good job and it ahs a feature to scan cards in for collection. i also use MTG Forge for playtesting decks, its like cockatrice in that it feels a bit sketchy, but it has an AI to play against so you can test decks on your own (the AI is not good and does very suboptimal plays but better than nothing)
6:50 Yes, TCGPlayer *can* send all of the cards in one package - if you’re lucky. The cheapest option is always getting 13 packages and most of the time they just don’t have certain cards in store so the minimum you can get is like two or three packages and at a higher price
Shout out to Spelltable. Tons of cool and friendly people there. Very easy to find a commander game or start your own. Very new player friendly. Great place if you only have a pre-cons, cedh, or want to set a power level before the game starts.
Mtg stocks is great for tracking all-time-highs and lows for card prices. Avoiding high risk pickups (cards that are expensive and likely to get reprinted) is important in this day and age. Lots of cards that are good (like fetch lands) continue to hit all-time-lows due to reprints. Always good to learn the market and you can get the most out of your cards.
@8:45 Scryfall/Gatherer do help for some things, in fact there are some rules that you can only find on there and they are not included in the Comp Rules, but still, it's nice to have a judge friend as this game is crazy complex.
you guys should either add the url's in the descriptions or the names on screen at the very least. I had to go through the comments for some of the names to google. ☹ Love the vid though!
Notable trick with the ultra pro satin tower. Take a bit of forehead grease and put it around the rim of the bottom half and it won't be a pain to open. Works every time.
I HIGHLY recommend MTG Forge. It is a rules engine, but in simple terms, it is an automatic way to play MTG against AI Bots and other players. The downside is that not very many people use it, and the multiplayer can be kinda janky. For testing decks, though, I absolutely rank it number one. It has an extensive card database, and you can even create custom cards with their scripting language, and they will actually work in-game. It has some really good features, feels great to use, and I highly recommend it.
that you guys so much for this video, i've really been wanting to try magic ever since I started watching skill check a few months back but i've felt I don't particularly have the money to spend on boxes, I will absolutely be giving arena a try
Buying a booster box is probably one of the most expensive ways to play. In general I'd trust RUclipsrs over big companies, but, for knowing which Magic products are good for beginners, I'd honestly suggest paying more attention to the way the products are marketed rather than the way RUclipsrs choose to play.
I've gotten a lot of use out of MTG Forge, which is a rules engine (can run and test games with AI piloting each of your decks each other, real fun! Or you as a human of course). But it's also an unofficial revival of MTG Shandalar! Which is a single player mtg rpg deckbuilder and Story-mode! It's fantastic and works great on phones, as well as PCs! Interface is a bit clunky but I've gotten hours out of it
If you can navigate it, Forge is amazing for getting lots of fast games in vs pretty good computers to test decks consistency and interaction vs colors, playstyles, commanders, etc.
To play with friends over long distances I usually use table top simulator it’s on steam and is like 20 bucks but with mods it adds any game that you could play on a table top plus it uses scryfall so any card on there it can load. The big problem with it tho is you need to understand the can and how it works cause you have to do all of those by hand unlike arena were it does it for you
Listen when I say DRAGON SHIELDS are the best sleeves. By far the best bang for your buck. Whether they’re solid color or airbrush design they shuffle well consistently!
I want to mention that another way to play commander online, if you own steam and own table top simulator, there is workshop content that has a working commander table setup and it super friendly to use. There is a discord i use to play with people that use it and its great
id also say while TCG Player is good, sometimes you can get those same cards from another big seller like Card Kingdom because of shipping. I got a bunch of cards I needed for nearly half the cost that way, so be sure to shop around.
I use Cardsphere for trading in cards in my big collection I do not use for cards I want/will use. I have sent in over 1200 cards and have recieved over 150 (mostly foils) in less than a year with no issues. I love using cardsphere over TCG Player because I could get cards at big discounts and I don't have to worry about shipping costs or extra hidden fees.
I highly recommend ultra guard boulders for deck boxes they are more compact than the satin towers, easier to open, and still fit 100 double sleeved cards and tokens. I have a dozen at this point and will never go back
You should definitely update the video info with a bunch of links. This is a GREAT video otherwise! One of the better MtG "how to" videos there are. So, good job. :D
I'd highly recommend Matte sleeves specifically, or else you end up with a terrible shuffling experience. Non-matte sleeves are way too sticky. For websites I use both Moxfield and Archidekt, where Moxfield is mainly for simple deck lists, while Archidekt has more custom in-depth options like card tags, card categories, etc.
@@Mrfunnydead You can do some of the same things yes, but it feels super clunky on Moxfield. Some recent UI changes made Archidekt even more superior in terms of customizing your deck building experience.
To also play magic digitally if people are interested, I use tabletop simulator and there are built-in commander tables anywhere from 4 to 8 players that have a lot of resources there. To make decks you can still use like architect or frog town. If anyone has any questions? I’ll be happy to help.
I use manabox as my digital representation of my collection. this way I always know which cards change prices or if I already known some cards for new decks 😅
my friends that got me into MTG told me when building a deck don’t be afraid of certain text or being under of interactions nobody will care if you play the game wrong and continue to learn
There is also MTGO (Magic The Gathering Online) which you can use to play online digitally. Downside on this is that you have to purchase your cards with real money.
Guys buy played cards heavily played even you can find cards for half off and they barely have a scratch on them. Only once have I purchased a damaged card where it was unplayable so it’s definitely worth it.
The only bad part of the satin towers is the dice compartment. I have 10 total and usually is the dice compartment who become loose and your dices get everwhere in your backpack! :|
MTG print get any card u need and any version like 75c after 100 cards they all feel and look good no need buy cards since it’s a mainly causal format for those don’t care of proxies
i kinda wish there were more viable options for staples rather than seeing the same 10 staples per color. if youre in a pod with 4 commanders that each has 3 colors you can more or less guess 60+ cards out of these decks cause of those colored staples..
Optimizing your cart is actually very poor compared to what it used to be. Even with Advanced options it has proven to me multiple times to not be a true optimization and I have optimized the cart way further manually. This is likely due to the decline of the "tcgplayer direct" service, which often doesn't have stock but still displays the reseller as direct, so when optimized in the cart it'll be a 5$+ shipping fee despite it selecting that reseller based on them being inside direct, but because the direct service doesn't have stock it kicks it out of the direct portion of your cart and charges you that shipping fee because its a separate order for the reseller.
Tabletop simulator! There's so many good workshop boards you can just load with scripts that make it so easy. You just paste a moxfield, archidekt, almost any link in and it'll export the entire deck usable in game
Seconding this! It works great and at the end you get to flip the table which is a plus
I didn't know you can import decks! This is awesome ty
The GOAT of playing non paper magic online
Honestly it’s the best way to play magic
Easy to shuffle. You can ply any deck you can think off. Scripts for basic land tutoring, cascading, reveal till types and more odd scripts like legendary cascade for Jodah. @@Blackburn6969you have to get the custom board someone scripted. It’s free in the steam workshop
I like to use Macaroni noodles for my +1/+1 counters.
I knew i couldn’t be the only one!
Good for eldrazi decks
I do beadweaving, and I use faceted beads (so they don't roll everywhere, lol) of different colors for different counters. Macaroni noodles work fantastic, though, and I used those, and coins, before I took up beadwork. Using the beads is just my personal preference now. I'm a slut for sparklies, lol.
Cooked or? 🤔
Do you turn them inside out for -1/-1?
The one thing I didn't see covered was tokens. For tokens, my group has InfiniTokens which are dry erase tokens that you can reuse and they're great. They also now have counters that you can reuse and update

I just bought my first magic the gathering booster set yesterday. I bought the baldur's gate one. I'm really excited to start plaing. You guys and charlie make this game seem like so much fun
letsgoo, the BG set was so fun. what cards did you pull?
Great video! Just wanted to point out that Scryfall also has the rulings for the cards if you scroll down on the cards page.
yeah I'm surprised they missed that in the video
Arena was a very big help in learning how magic works. I absolutely love this game and just recently bought my first pack.
Cardmarket is like the European cardkingdom! It also has a great shopping wizard that reduces prices/deliveries, and you can save wantlists too
+1 for cardmarket, you can even choose what wear, language and set(s) you want individual cards in every wantlist to be
Cardmarket is exceptional! They also have a youtube channel that does really great magic videos. Its cool to see some magic personalities doing stuff that isn't always commander, really broadens your game knowledge and my appreciation for the history of it as well!
Yeah Cardmarket is THE European market to use
cardmarket is a very amazing resource and market for mtg!
Canadian here, was very sad when I found the Cardmarket RUclips channel and couldn't take advantage of the deals
I too enjoy pinching the top and opening the crack.

this video is very informative, I am getting into it and it's so much it can be overwhelming
This is phenomenal. Thank you for the help, and keeping the community alive!
I'm glad Spelltable got a mention! That's what I use when I record for my channel!
I'm already a tool so this video was just reaffirming the obvious
Scryfall also has rulings on cards at the bottom of the page for the card
@8:45 Scryfall/Gatherer do help for some things, in fact there are some rules that you can only find on there and they are not included in the Comp Rules, but still, it's nice to have a judge friend as this game is crazy complex.

Tabletop simulator has a ton of great builds for magic and Commander! It's what my play group uses mainly since we can't always get together
For people in the EU the best side to use would be Cardmarket (by far) to buy and sell Trading Cards.
This was an awesome video! I just got back to magic after a 20+ year hiatus, and this was really helpful!
Crazy timing, I am just getting into Magic so this is very nice!

Check out the Pauper format. Only common cards are allowed, so it's fairly cheap to get into
Buying a booster box is probably one of the most expensive ways to play. Matt’s biggest fan here

Such a great video. I keep trying to get friends into commander, and this'll help for sure
I'm surprised you didn't mention infinitokens! Super useful and convienient tool
If you can navigate it, Forge is amazing for getting lots of fast games in vs pretty good computers to test decks consistency and interaction vs colors, playstyles, commanders, etc.
I could have used this when I started years ago, great video guys keep being awesome ❤

Table top simulator is amazing for online commander so far the best solution my buddies and I did while I was out of town for work for 2 months.
Can’t forget a playmat, I thought it was pointless when I started playing since I had sleeves but it’s 100% a must.
Listen when I say DRAGON SHIELDS are the best sleeves. By far the best bang for your buck. Whether they’re solid color or airbrush design they shuffle well consistently!
Just as an heads up - Scryfall has the same rulings as Gatherer when you scroll a bit on the page !

FYI Scryfall also has rulings beneath the card. No reason for gatherer if that's the only thing you use it for
Definitely should check out Mana Box
I highly recommend ultra guard boulders for deck boxes they are more compact than the satin towers, easier to open, and still fit 100 double sleeved cards and tokens. I have a dozen at this point and will never go back
Scryfall has the Gatherer text under the card.

Love you guys!
for my life tracker I use Moxtopper for me its clean and easy to track all kinds of damage.
Scryfall have rules too under the card :)
Since they didn’t mention specific sleeves dragon shields and katanas are by far the best sleeves in my experience
I was half expecting the first thing on the list to be Charlie or Matt 😂
Another amazing option is tabletop simulator, there's a mod for mtg which works really well once you learn it. The only downside is it costs money.
I love the channel i wanted to ask if you guys ever consindered warhammer
"If you wanna roll a spliff and put it in the bottom"
That's magic right there.
Skill check branded sleeves would 100% be something I'd pick up
I hit like and subscribe after you said I could put a joint in the bottom part of my deck box. 😂
thanks skill check! very useful tools!

Yo u guys are great loveing the MTG. BUT I WANN know who's playing what leaders In OPtcg
10/10 video!
New video idea: In-Depth tutorial on using scryfall to construct a deck.
I really recommend Xmage, it runs just like mtgo but you don’t have to pay for the cards
Any recommendations for storage for your collection?
If you guys would like to have an actual judge at your sessions (videos) and/or to play with, I’m very interested in helping you guys out!
When i want to put in my deck to arcideckt i use a scanner app called delver lense, then i export it to arcideckt. Makes it alot faster
There is also MTGO (Magic The Gathering Online) which you can use to play online digitally. Downside on this is that you have to purchase your cards with real money.
Who picks the intro music because they are really good at it and would love to have the list of them.
Xmage is also a very good online tool for playing mtg
thanks for this video
Cardsphere is good for getting cards WAY cheaper if you don't mind waiting a while to get a deck together
X-Mage is another online player, my friends and I play almost exclusively commander on it
Sleeves make everything about shuffling and using the cards much harder for me lmao
I use them solely for protecting valuable cards.
You really should sell the Skill Check playmats. I really want the pink one.
Table top simulator is so fun to play magic
Guys buy played cards heavily played even you can find cards for half off and they barely have a scratch on them. Only once have I purchased a damaged card where it was unplayable so it’s definitely worth it.
Also draft on arena is the best way to go yesssss
If you've got the cash and you want an absolutely top of the line deck box, Aaron Cain is the master
The only bad part of the satin towers is the dice compartment. I have 10 total and usually is the dice compartment who become loose and your dices get everwhere in your backpack! :|
Play mats? Are the Skill Check Mats for sale?
MTG print get any card u need and any version like 75c after 100 cards they all feel and look good no need buy cards since it’s a mainly causal format for those don’t care of proxies
great!
MtG Forge is great for playtesting
Use bottlecaps for Treasure token in Mr House build
A app for deck building for people to consider is mana box.
thank you skill check
My favorite mtg tool is Drew
If this video was sponsored, couldve titled it Shill Check

I use miniature dinosaurs for my +1/+1 counters
Will ryan and drew ever touch each others body covered in +1/+1 counters live?
You're gonna confuse the new players by saying Fat Pack, Ryan 😂
