  • ‘Harmonics of the Night’ is the third in what he conceived of as a trilogy of recordings. Following on from ‘Metal Dog’ and ‘Triboluminescence’.
The music for Harmonics of the Night came from a real-life situation, which was the occasion of a retrospective exhibition of my photography at the Pavilion Populaire in Montpellier.
I was able to visit the museum in advance of the opening and decided this time (instead of the usual unsuitable music being played by the whatever gallery!) that I must make a music installation to accompany the photography on the wall, a piece that could be looped and thus provide a continual musical counterpoint to the visual.
I made a twenty-minute single guitar improvisation. A Certain Strangeness: This piece put a certain approach in my head and pointed me in the direction of eleven more tracks. These pieces which vary from minimalist approaches to African influenced dance pieces and are what I consider the sonic parallels to the photography.
The album will be released by Flickering Shadow on October 15th. Keep your eyes peeled!

    The music is beautiful!
The merging of the music with the photographs is quite lovely.
An essence of Light & Sound on the physical plane.

Very cool! What I've always found interesting about photography as an expressive art form is it's static, two-dimensional capture of a very specific moment In time devoid of the smells and the sounds and the direct experience that can't truly be captured within that medium, and which must then actually be captured unlike music through an instrument which can be played live and or captured on a recording device to then be replayed and enjoyed later such as with a like captured photograph, and the universality of music transcends even say those with disabilities because someone who is blind can't truly enjoy photography whereas someone who is blind can still fully enjoy music, and even someone who is deaf because they can still feel and experience the sound waves and vibrations created by the instrument which Mr. Summers is providing as authentically as possible due to the fact that he is the creator of both art forms being presented. What could be even more interesting is along with a photograph and an accompanying piece of music would be to surround each piece with objects directly from the photoshoot, be it a strip of cloth that the subject may have laid upon, perhaps even a bottle of perfume that a subject may have spritzed upon themselves, or even a fallen leaf from a tree within the photograph or any other such three-dimensional object to then help represent and bring forth a fuller overall experience in a showing of the work, a fully rounded immersion if you will. Probably not at this time with Covid still raging on, but a showing that incorporates all of the senses, even perhaps along with taste, although I'm not necessarily talking about low browing the art with say a scratch and sniff photograph here or anything, but a true artist like Mr. Summers, along with some of the rest of you, probably could come up with some really interesting ideas concerning such an endeavor, although the general idea itself is certainly nothing new. I don't know, just a fleeting thought there is all.

Using Eventide? Maybe H9 or maybe Eclipse? I recognize the effect. Always atmospheric, intriguing, inspiring... And then comes Andy Summers taking that diatonic effect and make it sense.

Ohhh so magic and tender, is like I am flying over the worlwide landscapes, since the rainbow mountain in the Andes of Peru, through the african sabanna, over the great wall of china and connected to the sky universe over the Nazca lines. Love your sounds, a magistral manage of feelings and images through your guitar fingerprints. Regards from Lima. 🎶🎸🎧🎵

Wonderful song and great work with the photography. I really miss film photography: when zoomed in on you can see the organic, random placement of the crystals that make up the picture; contrast that with stepped pixelation of digital images. Thanks again.
