I just don't think people understand how good Errol Spence, Jr. is. Lamont Peterson displayed masterful boxing defense and offense and it just did not matter. Most of Errol's shots were blocked and the damage to Peterson's face is outrageous. When Peterson looks at the doctor with that face and say's "What?", I nearly died. I think the most frightening thing about Spence is that for all his offensive and technical abilities, he has an iron solid chin. In his desperation, Peterson caught him with some really good hooks but the dude remained unfazed and focused, that's disheartening.

I think he was trying to implore the same strategy he used, almost successfully, vs Danny. Absorb punches on his guard and then attack the tired fighter in the 2nd half of the fight. Errol however is, in my humble opinion, the best body puncher in boxing since Dre left. If you're gonna do that, you'd better be Winky Wright like with your guard or you'll get demolished.

After watching Errol destroy Peterson (who is one tough dude) conventional wisdom will tell you there’s no way Mikey can take those shots and pull off the victory.

The "cover up and absorb shots" strategy used early, always fails against bombers. You have to tire them out making them miss several rounds first. By the time you absorbed several rounds of bombs, you got nothing left to come back with. Ali only did the ropadope AFTER tiring Big George out a bit. Berman Stiverne learned the same thing against Wilder. Bewilder the bomber 4-5 rounds before absorbing his shots. Slipping, head & foot movement, grab in close until he breathes heavy. THEN cover and look for counters.

Errol got hit large in part to Peterson's lack of power. Errol didn't feel anything that warranted him to fight cautiously. He took what Peterson had to offer and just kept coming. If Mikey has more power than Peterson, I would think Errol would approach it differently. He's a pretty smart fighter. Also Peterson isn't a pushover.

I think the most frightening thing about Spence is that for all his offensive and technical abilities, he has an iron solid chin. In his desperation, Peterson caught him with some really good hooks but the dude remained unfazed and focused, that's disheartening.

So bigger guys wont take advantage of smaller fighters, but the loophole is if a fighter can kill himself to make weight then he could become the bigger fighter on fight night and get that advantage. I think he was trying to implore the same strategy he used, almost successfully, vs Danny. Absorb punches on his guard and then attack the tired fighter in the 2nd half of the fight. Errol however is, in my humble opinion, the best body puncher in boxing since Dre left. If you're gonna do that, you'd better be Winky Wright like with your guard or you'll get demolished.

After watching Errol destroy Peterson (who is one tough dude) conventional wisdom will tell you there’s no way Mikey can take those shots and pull off the victory.
He took the shots, but no victory. But lucky for Mikey, Spence didn't sit on his shots to Mikey like he sat on 'em with Peterson. He fought Mikey a different way to basically prove his ability to adjust and switch up his style to fit each fighter.

The "cover up and absorb shots" strategy used early, always fails against bombers. You have to tire them out making them miss several rounds first. By the time you absorbed several rounds of bombs, you got nothing left to come back with. Ali only did the ropadope AFTER tiring Big George out a bit. Berman Stiverne learned the same thing against Wilder. Bewilder the bomber 4-5 rounds before absorbing his shots. Slipping, head & foot movement, grab in close until he breathes heavy. THEN cover and look for counters.
You can tell by the way Spence throws punches he loads up with pure power with every punch.
