McGill Black History Month 2025 - Reframing Spatial Narratives: Localising Blackness and the Built Environment with Shane Laptiste
Architect Shane Laptiste is the principal and co-founder of the award-winning Studio of Contemporary Architecture (SOCA). His architectural interests investigate community informed architecture that is responsive to the cultural and spatial needs of the impacted users. He has a particular interest in the ways in which Black communities have and continue to respond to space and the environment. He is a licensed architect in Ontario and Quebec and holds BSc(Arch) and MArch degrees from McGill University, where he also serves as a studio instructor.
This event is presented by the Equity Team, in the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice-President (Academic), in partnership with the Faculty of Engineering and the Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture.

L'architecte Shane Laptiste est le directeur et le cofondateur du Studio of Contemporary Architecture (SOCA), un cabinet primé. Ses intérêts architecturaux portent sur l'architecture influencée par la communauté qui répond aux besoins culturels et spatiaux des utilisateurs touchés. Il s'intéresse particulièrement à la façon dont les communautés noires ont réagi et continuent de réagir à l'espace et à l'environnement. Il est architecte agréé en Ontario et au Québec et détient un baccalauréat en architecture et une maîtrise de l'Université McGill, où il est également instructeur de studio.
