Best place in Vegas by far. This what it looks like when you go somewhere that is owed by a person and not a corporation. A person that truly cares about his customers and treats his employees like family. Mr G is an amazing man.
Awesome! I miss the old Vegas of the 70s.. 99 breakfast - 2.99 buffets - 15 hotel rooms and no resort fees. The beautiful showgirls etc… glad to see there’s one place left not gouging us. Thanks for the video.
Your intro for this video is why I will be staying there...again...for 5 days next month. I have been staying at South Point when I vacation in Las Vegas for over 10 years. The resort has everything you discuss. I have to say that on my own channel, you can find my many videos on this property. And yes, I had my birthday a few years ago at Michael's restaurant there. The service puts even Michelin star restaurants to shame. I highly encourage people who have dined around the world to experience the highest level of luxurious service at Michael's. It reminds me of the staff service from the television show "The Gilded Age." Thanks for highlighting South Point. Now, let's hope they don't increase the prices like other greedy casino resorts in Vegas.
As a 'local'; I always recommend South Point to visitors. One of the main reasons you enjoyed your trip was (as you pointed out / tips, etc) was happy employees. The owner, Michael Gaughan; takes very good care of the employees. Michael IS Old School Vegas. BTW: They feature a large poker room, too.
I’ve been to south point a few times but last time I went I didn’t like it. One of the dealers was being a rude SOB. he busted and thought he got 21 and started taking our money. When confronted, he was even more rude and acted like he knew what he was doing. Anyways, the cameras showed he did bust and ended up paying us.other than that, their buffet, bowling, and low minimums are good. I will say their rewards program is absolute garbage. I remember they had a promotion where u had to play for a thousand bucks to get a $25 Walmart gift card lol
I love this video more than any other you have done to be honest. You seem to be truly in touch with having a good time and enjoying life on a budget. Thats what its all about!

Absolutely loved and believed your enthusiasm. The Vegas in me has been slowly dying for the exact reasons you stated. After watching this video I am actually filled with optimism. Thanks James! You were right on our last chat, one of your best ever videos. Nice to see that you don’t have to be on the strip (or break the bank) to have a great time. Keep up the good work Brother!

We discovered South Point in 2021 after our flight was cancelled and Alaska put us up there for 2 nights. Such a great value and very impressed with the food. One of the afternoons we sat at the bar in the back playing the same $20 for a few hours and getting free drinks. We also had some pretty good slot wins while we were there. Great video!
Dude, you can feel the LOVE! True enthusiasm and appreciation for VEGAS value we used to remember! Although I was staying at Elara (loved it btw) I made it my mission to visit several locals casinos (Red Rock, GVR, Palace Station, and SP) over the Labor day weekend, and beyond. I was so jazzed to see casinos that were new to me. And REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE! Coming back to the strip seemed deflating to say the least. The smell of weed, high table minimums, poor returns on gaming, , construction, and fees for everything. Need I say more? Those two conglomerates that control the strip have acquired and accumulated more than they can handle, and things are just getting outta control. My next visit will certainly be more focused on the locals market for sure. Here's to another great video (raises glass).
We booked Christmas night dinner at P.P this year on the way in for my 50th birthday celebration mostly because a lot of Vegas weren't offering or were closed because it was xmas. We had never been to South Point and what a mistake. Place was banging ,meal and service was great and all price point of tables . My husbands stepped out for a smoke during dinner and won $500 in a slot in that 10 mins. With the free valet and service it certainly DID feel like old Vegas. Good to see you back in Vegas !

Hi James, great content as always! Totally agree - the "Old Vegas" is long gone. I fly out to Vegas 4 to 6 times a year from Traverse City, Michigan. I noticed my comps have been going down these past two years - while I spend more money at each visit. I found MGM Rewards still has some decent comps remaining. Caesars have been lousy for comps and it seems like Venetian/Palazzo has been cheap with the free rooms lately. I'm coming out in three weeks for a golf tournament we're staying at Mandalay Bay, MGM and then last two nights at Circa. I'm booking all the dinners for our group of 5 for a week. I'm booking a high-end Steakhouse, a great Sushi place, and Italian fare. Using your previous Vegas content as my guide to great dining! Please keep the Vegas content coming, James, - you are the best travel guide on YT!
Hold on..... You missed the iconic $1.50 hotdog stand! South Point owner Michael Gaughan started selling hot dogs in 1979 when he opened Barbary Coast. He refuses to change the price and vows to always sell them at $1.50. It's located next to the Sportsbook. I have lived here in Vegas for 20 years and have been going to Southpoint since the day it opened. Southpoint also has the best poker room in Vegas.
Southpoint isn't the only "local's casino" that provides value. Many of the local's casinos throughout Vegas provide great bang for your $. That includes many of the casinos in downtown.
I've been a loyal MGM Resorts customer for 15 years. We usually go once a month. I recently discovered the South Point and I love it! I'm considering giving them mall my action now since MGM had this horrible hacking problem and bed bugs.

My fiancé and son work at SP. I have 2 good friends that worked at Prime Rib and all 4 like/d working there. All get paid decently and above average for the city. The only real big complaint we really hear about is the room rates are slightly higher than most think they should be. In a lot of cases you can pay more at SP than a strip casino. That said it evens out with the cheaper prices of everything else.
This is the only place I'll stay at when I'm in Vegas. The Boyd hotels and casinos used to be my favorite but they've gone down hill after COVID. Their buffet and midnight special is my favorite and their coffee is amazingly good.
I am a local and spent a week on the strip a few weeks ago and I cannot tell you how disappointed I was in EVERYTHING. From the workers who could have cared less about being there to prices so high they made my eyes water, I am done. I have never been more disappointed in the 20 years that I have lived here. South Point, however, never disappoints. The business that they do there is off the charts.
Stayed for 5 nights September 2023. One thing that i noticed in comparison to other LV properties that I’ve stayed at was the cleanliness of all areas of South Point Resort. They have the Red Shirt cleaning crew wiping down all public areas. The restrooms are clean, with dry, rubbish-free floors and dry sink counters!
This was the best! So glad you went to this place! I'm staying at M Resort while looking for a home in Vegas. Glad you went to the show and hope you do more of this! South Point looks great value and some great dining to be had.
They also have excellent meal comps if you play table games. This is the best casino for value. Not really fancy, but excellent staff, restaurants, drink service, and poker room.
25 cent Blackjack at South Point! You cannot find that anywhere else in Vegas! Free comped drinks no matter how much your gambling. Best value buffet in Vegas $27. Their Vienna hot dog stand is really good too I heard. Lots of restaurants, movie theater, bowling alley, lots to do at South Point
My mom has been going to South Point for a couple years now. She's always getting comped rooms and has won decent money from playing Quarter Keno there. Wife and I haven't checked it out as we really like Palazzo and try to stay there and earn rewards, but will definitely add SP to our list.
I remember the Brent Musberger broadcast booth. I was listening live and looking into a 4-sided glass studio. Brent saluted me in his way to say hi. I watched almost the entire 2 hours but stayed at SP all day.🏈
Love southpoint! We always get comped rooms/food. Michaels is incredible..but remember it isn't a steakhouse, it's a fine dining restaurant. Finally I love you don't have to bet maximum to get drinks!😊
When you go to The South Point. You came go up to most bars with a slot machine and place a $20 bill in it and gamble a quarter at a time while your drinks are served for FREE! Just have to tip the bartender for the drinks served. Cash out and and continue to enjoy a great resort and casino. 👍 24 hour sports book. A great race horse sports book closes after the last of horse races. The Mexican restaurant bar area also has a happy hour. Well worth the happy hour. 👍 All in all, the South Point has everything you need for any stay.
Elvis sang at least one of their songs regularly. He was backstage at one of their Vegas shows and walked across the stage, from one side to the other, and blew everyone’s mind. The crowd went nuts.
James I have to say that this was your best video to date! It was really outstanding and I look forward to visiting South Point for the first time in November. Thank you for making such a great video on this property!
I really liked their buffet last time I visit. They also have a world class sports book. I don't think I've ever gambled there but I do like visiting for the buffet. Another bargain is the Casablanca / Virgin River in Mesquite. It isn't Vegas but if you want a Vegas experience without the Vegas price tag, it is worth a trip.
I totally agree with you about the present Las Vegas. It is a lot of greed. Resort Fees are a rip off and you do not get anything for them. Paying for parking is another rip off. What are suppose to do with your car??? My family and I stay at South Point now every time we come to Las Vegas. We Love it. Great video❤😊
I was in Vegas last week and stayed at GVR. Our daily room rate was $200+. The resort fee was $55 and there was an additional charge of $50/person/daily to utilize the spa pool. The what I call the "bang-bang" pool was included in the resort fee; however, I was so taken aback by this cooperate greed of an additional $50 charge for the spa pool. I hadn't been to Vegas in about four years, and boy was I surprised with this crazy add on fee. Shame on GVR! I guess I'm going to have to give SP a whirl the next time I'm in town.
Agree 100%. I’m convinced hotels will charge as much as possible with up front fees - hidden fees & dishonest fees. As long as people continue to pay they will keep finding new ways to increase prices. ✌️🇨🇦 (will always ❤️Vegas)
Yes gvr is a total rip off , Southpoint is a great deal especially off season.. Sunset Station hotel and casino is amazing and surrounded by restaurants on the streets, walking distance, like Mimi's Cafe , Asian and Mexican places.
You missed one of the major attractions there albeit given the category but the Arena and Competition bowling alley in the back. You can go see all sorts of equestrian events for free there. And the USBC bowling alley is huge. It’s kind of for whoever is into that kind of stuff, but still even when you think you’ve seen it all there’s still more to see. The Budweiser Clydesdales stay there frequently and usually every year they bring them through the casino to pick the winner of the Super Bowl at the sportsbook. I worked there for 5 yrs at the bell desk and loved it. Gaughan takes care of his employees well and the constant return guests take care of us. Even though I’ve switched careers I still go there as a local to eat and play and go to events.
Right next to the outside entrance t the Sports Book there is a bench I used to love to sit on when I was going to get high. It had a beautiful view, especially at night. I called it the “Magic Bench”
Great video that has introduced me to a new place that I can't wait to visit!!! I love places that take us back to the comfortable places that made you relax have fun and enjoy yourself. We bough a place in Sothern Maryland on the water and are trying to bring back the same vibe! Thanks for the info!
Southpoint is great. We have a Time Share next door and wander over there all the time. Nice bowling alley, movie theater. Its good for a day, then i get bored. Lol. The Strip is a bit of a drive depending on how bad traffic is.
Watching his videos we've gotten to know James. We know that he has a taste for the finer things in life. However, as many tourists are, he's tired of getting nickel-and-dimed everywhere he goes. South Point is a breath of fresh air and a reminder of what Vegas used to be.
Hey hey James ! I’ve never been in the South Point . Very nice indeed . Loved the room especially at that price . Espresso martinis I also love …well as you know me by now I love all martinis 🍸 lol. Those dinners looked amazing. Definitely wasn’t expecting you to see a show. I didn’t know the Righteous Brothers were even still touring …good for them. Enjoyable video as always Sir 😎😎😎
Anthony Yooooo 🙌. Always expect the unexpected from me. Just when you think you have me pegged, I pivot. Predictably unpredictable 🙋🏻♂️ I thought the 3 coffee beans, each signifying something unique, was ultra cool. Paying $10 was even cooler 😎
Bill Medley (G.O.A.T.!!!) has a new partner, Bucky Heard, who is terrific. Bobby Hatfield, sadly, passed away in 2003. Fortunately he lived long enough to see the duo’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I mostly agree with your thesis, EXCEPT you need to check out Sam's Town. That, too, is a last bastion of old-school your-money-goes-a-LONG-way Vegas that is widely respected. 🥰 My educated guess as to how you'd rate this resort is a 3. Your tone wasn't quite "Definite" territory at least to me, but unmistakably something you'd recommend everyone to check out at least once. ☺
Excellent review, I have been wanting to try this casino out. Your reviews are the absolute best....I can't wait to get back to Vegas, I may stay at South Point. I heard the $5 Video Poker pays out frequently, and it is worth a visit.......Also, I love that you are featuring live shows. Thank you!!!!
Well I have to say, I agree fully with you, was there this past July for 7 days, my first time back in Vegas in 12 years, I always loved this casino. Your right the place was spotless, the folks were great, I had a medical problem while I was there, they helped me big time. The late desk clerk in charge was the best to best. I want to Thank her so much for what she did for me. I needed a electric chair, and she was able to get one, after I was told they were sold out. I am going back in Dec 2023 for another 7 days.
One of my FAVORITE resorts. Clean rooms, clean casino, and great amenities. Not to mention the fact they cater to the country and cowboy crowd. GREAT place.
I really think all these big venues drive up the cost too. Used to stay at Monte Carlo until Tmobile arena. Then Holiday Inn Desert Club...the Sphere has ruined that for us. Based on you video - I will be looking at South Pointe
South point is my favorite casino hotel they have free rodeo stuff all the time. The Mexican food place is called Baja Miguel’s they have lunch specials that are pretty good and come with a margarita. A lot of graveyard specials and weekly deals steak and shake has a happy hour
You are right about value being gone, practically non-existent, from the strip. I still remember the days in the 90s and early 2000s where you could find inexpensive food and drink across the strip. Imperial Palace (now Linq) use to have plenty of cheap food and drink. Cheap drinks were everywhere. The last time I was in Vegas I stopped at Cromwell for a soda (fountain drink - not cocktail) at the snack bar. It was $7. $7 for a fountain drink. How the hell does a mere mortal even afford Vegas anymore? A few nights later I went to see a movie at the Palms. A large soda in the movie theater was $5. Movie theater concessions are less than the strip. That is pure crazy!
South Point is my local resort as it is 5 mins from my house. You are 100% correct it gives a retro-Vegas vibe. For me, it gives a “Frontier” feel, one of the funnest and casual Strip resorts of yesteryear.
Really enjoyed the video. Been watching since some of your latest DR trips. Really enjoy South Point as well. It hosts the USBC(Bowling) National Tournament every couple of years in a separate bowling alley than you visited. If you happen to visit again next year between March and June, You should take like 10 min and walk into the Stadium Bowling Alley. It's right next to the rodeo. It's the more impressive bowling alley of the two. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work.
The South Point is a great property! It just has a great feel to it. They have the best breakfast buffet in town at $13.95 m-f with a players card. Great selection and food quality at that price. The Coronado Cafe also has some great Chinese food too! It's getting a bit pricey but the quality is good. The only restaurant that I don't recommend BIG TIME is Baja Miguels. I went there once and that was enough. The Mexican food you get at Disneyland is 10 times better. Once again, a really nice property to eat and hang out at. Plus they still have free parking too!
When I first stayed at SP it was calling South Coast. From staying at Gold Coast often they gave me free room offers to stay there. I immediately loved it. So clean and I love breakfast at Coranado Cafe. The Sorts and Race book was combined and small now they are separate and large. The Hot Dog cart was 75 cents. My only complaint is I wish the water in pool was warmer. At Gold Coast it’s like a bathtub it’s so warm. Best place to play Video Poker bar none.
They’re gonna have to work very hard to justify their room rates. Being as far north as it is, and with the rooms being smaller than many other offerings on the strip, it’s gonna be a hard sell so far.
@@uptildawnltd3253 They're banking heavily on the convention crowd, and although conventions have rebounded somewhat they're still well below where they were at in 2019 so that's another major looming concern for them. I can't help but imagine in an alternate reality without the 2008 financial crisis what it would have been like if Fontainebleau had opened right on time as originally planned in 2008 or so, just several years after Encore opened. Because Wynn/Encore are unmistakably Fontainebleau's most direct competition, and although there will be some clientele who LOVE Wynn/Encore but also have been thirsting for a new high-end experience for a long while now and, thus, will consider Fontainebleau................the flip side of that is that Fontainebleau not opening on Wynn/Encore's heels has given Wynn/Encore the opportunity to cement and sinew their reputation as the #1 Best Ranked Resort on the Strip and remain so for sooooooooo long: which only further adds to the pressure in Fontainebleau's camp to live up to their hype.
Hey you're letting out my secret. I'm an old guy been going to Vegas all my life. But fun Vegas is gone thanks to corporate greed. However South Point is great. I drive in from California and stop at South Point give my car to valet and go no further. Great prices. Race and sports books are great. Food is actually affordable and service is good. The Club is worth it. I just hope they don't change.
SP is also the BEST for Video Poker players. I play DD Bonus and have gotten so many 4 of a kind. Remember getting my 1st RF. Needed Queen of Hearts and drew it. I didn’t even think of the 2K I won just so thrilled to get a Royal.
Absolutely love ur videos James. I luv South Point and always go there whenever im in Vegas. Have always had good luck there, food is good and have also seen shows. Have never stayed there cause my brother lives near by.
I’ve been meaning to visit a friend in Vegas, and was unsure where to stay. You convinced me to stay at South Point. i just booked a room, making sure I picked dates when the Righteous Brothers were appearing. I’ve seen them before, but Bill Medley is such an icon! Looking forward to the whole trip, and all those restaurants.
There’s nothing like staying on the strip but your right, it’s gotten so expensive that when we were there a couple months ago was probably our last, F1 construction didn’t help

Southpoint also has the best poker room in Vegas.
according to this video you would think that the race/sports book have been eliminated as well as the $1.50 hot dogs.
I know. The hot dogs are the best...
WELCOME to the BED 🛌 BUG BUFFET ... YOU are on the MENU 😋

Another great job editing! What I love the most is the familiar background music for each venue. Really good video
This is the only casino I consider staying/playing at when I come to Vegas 2-3x/year. By far the best few days of relaxation and entertainment!
I had no idea how much South Point had to offer. The Righteous Brothers show sounds amazing!
After tiring of the Strip and Downtown, I tried Red Rocks last time in Vegas. The more time I spend off-Strip the more I like Vegas again.
My mom has been going to South Point for a couple years now. She's always getting comped rooms and has won decent money from playing Quarter Keno there. Wife and I haven't checked it out as we really like Palazzo and try to stay there and earn rewards, but will definitely add SP to our list.
2 thumbs up! Solid review. I'm sold. Thank you sir. South Point here I come.
Brooooo. Glad to see you back. Southpoint is my favorite. I agree with you on Vegas. It's really tragic now.
Thank you so much! I have only been to the South Point for the buffet and it was good and a great value! I plan on staying there sometime soon.
What a great place yes yes! Can't believe the drink prices! Oyster bar, tequila bar, huge crab cocktail, prime rib, inexpensive show - I'm going!😃
I am so happy you showed us the concert...so glad you got to go!❤
Now I see why this hotel is usually sold out! Wonderful video 👍, subscribed!
When you go to The South Point. You came go up to most bars with a slot machine and place a $20 bill in it and gamble a quarter at a time while your drinks are served for FREE! Just have to tip the bartender for the drinks served. Cash out and and continue to enjoy a great resort and casino. 👍
24 hour sports book. A great race horse sports book closes after the last of horse races.
The Mexican restaurant bar area also has a happy hour. Well worth the happy hour. 👍
All in all, the South Point has everything you need for any stay.
Elvis sang at least one of their songs regularly. He was backstage at one of their Vegas shows and walked across the stage, from one side to the other, and blew everyone’s mind. The crowd went nuts.
they told that story!
Yay, you’re back in Vegas!!! My partner and I had been missing your Vegas videos.
A gem of a video. Vegas as it Should be 🤙
I totally agree with you about the present Las Vegas.
My stay at Luxor on the strip was $130 total for a Friday night before an NFL game.
Yes gvr is a total rip off , Southpoint is a great deal especially off season.. Sunset Station hotel and casino is amazing and surrounded by restaurants on the streets, walking distance, like Mimi's Cafe , Asian and Mexican places.
LOVE IT! I do wish these Vegas hotels would put some umbrellas around the pool deck. You never disappoint James. Thanks.
Love South Point, have stayed there a couple of times for USBC Nationals Bowling. Great place to gamble too.
Omgosh I love that you showed the Righteous Brothers show!! Thank you, love your vids and enjoy them all but like the mix up with the show 💯
Had the opportunity to see BILL MEDLEY at both SAMMY'S SHOWROOM inside Harrah's RENO and the CELEBRITY SHOWROOM inside the Nugget in SPARKS.
Best Vegas content on YT. Keep up the great work.
Southpoint is great. We have a Time Share next door and wander over there all the time. Nice bowling alley, movie theater. Its good for a day, then i get bored. Lol. The Strip is a bit of a drive depending on how bad traffic is.
I haven't had any luck at SouthPoint in over a year! Glad to see someone taking some of that money home!
Great video as always!! Southpoint is a favorite with so much to do, low prices and fantastic employees!
Predictably unpredictable 🙋🏻♂️
I thought the 3 coffee beans, each signifying something unique, was ultra cool.
My educated guess as to how you'd rate this resort is a 3.
Great review. Makes me want to get my hinny over there. Thank you 😊😊😊😊😊
You should!
Thank you for reviewing this property, we loved our stay last year, found the staff terrific, food exceptional. ❤
Southpoint is winner. That Righteous Brothers show looked great.
CVS / WALLGREENS Runs! One of the oldest Las Vegas traditions.
South point is my favorite casino hotel they have free rodeo stuff all the time. The Mexican food place is called Baja Miguel’s they have lunch specials that are pretty good and come with a margarita. A lot of graveyard specials and weekly deals steak and shake has a happy hour
One of your very best videos!
The South Point is the nuts! I love the race and sports book, posted up right next to the deli with numerous desserts..♥️🙏👉🇺🇸
That is pure crazy!
yep - we dont even bother to drink on the strip. It wont stop if ppl continue to buy into these high prices. ugh.
Found this place 5 years ago, been staying there ever since.
Excellent Video! I've been to go to "South Point", next trip I'll definitely make a visit here!
This southpoint ad is crazy
When I first stayed at SP it was calling South Coast. From staying at Gold Coast often they gave me free room offers to stay there. I immediately loved it. So clean and I love breakfast at Coranado Cafe. The Sorts and Race book was combined and small now they are separate and large. The Hot Dog cart was 75 cents. My only complaint is I wish the water in pool was warmer. At Gold Coast it’s like a bathtub it’s so warm. Best place to play Video Poker bar none.
Myself & my GF just love your content mate! Dom Rep here we come but thanks for the LV review.
Another great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Please get ready to review the Fontainebleau Las Vegas!
you know this 😊
@@Coolist
❤❤❤❤
LQQKING forward to it. They say the pool area is SMALL.
@@alyonapetrova694 The standard pool certainly is. Their VIP pool is comparatively large, and I don't know how big LIV Dayclub's will be.
Your videos are a gem!! Love your thorough review of everything, thanks so much for sharing!
You're reviewing is by far my favorite. Thanks for the video.
There’s nothing like staying on the strip but your right, it’s gotten so expensive that when we were there a couple months ago was probably our last, F1 construction didn’t help
Once again and great to see y back in LV, exceptional video. Editing, music selection and of course your narrative. Wonderful work. Always enjoy your videos LV wise. (All I watch being a LV visitor). Really like your work. Thank you!!
As a non smoking local i can say the only thing that i hate about southpoint is the smoke 💨 other than that i win there a lot
Not a local, I live in Canada, but…..South Point is my favourite! I love the strip, don’t get me wrong but yeah!
when i was a local the southpoint was one of my 2 fav casinos in vegas
Such a fantastic value WOW, South Point is definitely on the radar to pay a visit, thanks again James as always your videos a great.
