The fact that he was Protecting the Flag would have required even the stoutest Marine to Modify his stance while Rendering the Salute.

Shared this with my eldest son, a currently serving Marine, we were both brought to tears. He remembered his Grandfather whom he never met, my Father who served aboard a Navy Destroyer during WWII. May God bless those who went before him, those serving now, and those who will serve their country in the future. Lest we forget, God Bless the United States of America

More thought then what went into my WWII project; and I made a historically accurate lego cutaway model of the USS ARIZONA at the moment the bomb entered the smoke stack.. I spent way way too much of my earned allowance to purchase individual lego for that one model.. then for the the following year I made a replica dolittle raid aircraft carrier deck with exactly 12 b-17s.. all of which where prebuilt sets of offbrand lego. Honestly I wish I hadn’t run away from home when I turned 13.. my mom got rid of all my lego stuff because she figured I was never coming back even though I only went to my grandparents

A tribute to the saluting boy /soldier of Omaha Beach.
He had his orders, so he took his post. He did this without a single boast.
And when the enemy came around, the American flag never touched the ground. The wind and waves they blew and roared, but his duty was not ignored. The sea itself tried to push him back, but courage this young soldier never lacked. And when he could no longer stand he had truly honored this hallowed land. Exhausted he collapsed in to his mother's reach, the saluting soldier of Omaha Beach.

I drive a medical transportation vehicle at my job. 2 weeks after training I was blessed with the privilege of transporting a WWII Veteran to his doctors appt. He had a slight case of alzheimers but had a powerful vice-like handshake. He said with a proud look, "That's how tight I held on to my weapon during battle and while sleeping!" "Elsa, that was his weapons name, saved me many times so I had to return the favor!"

Thank you "YOUNG-Man for reminding us, to give honor to whom honor is due. Thank you for reminding us of what happened in D-day Omaha beach (or Utah Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach and or Sword Beach Landing Beach) so we may NOT neglect or forget to say or give thanks to our honorable Veterans who served and fought for our Free Nation, indivisible under God, and not to forget to honor our Active Military Servicemen who is still serving now, here and abroad.
Thank YOU again Young Man --You stood there, unmovable without complaint and held the most Beautiful Flag in the World--while you imagined the maneuvering of our Soldiers at the landing beach, some made it and many didn't made it. You probably saw a vision of what had happened for You teared up and wiped your tears and stayed again in the salute position. I wept too while I read the flashed transcripts or your encouraging act on Omaha beach.
Thank you of reminding us that our FREEDOM is NOT FREE that our Freedom is very costly, that we cannot take this for granted and allow anyone, or someone to stump it and dishonor it just because...
Thank you for waking us up. God bless YOU and your family.

As regards his stance, I was - and am - pretty rubbish at drill myself! Comes of having served in the Navy before the Army, I think! Where I'm from, the two are very different in that regard. The lad did just fine.

it's hard to imagine that my grandfather landed on Normandy but this was 3 weeks after the action. He was old...34 yrs old. He was drafted in 1943 when he lived in W. Virginia and sent to England in 1944. He survived the "Battle of the Bulged" and the war and sent home in Oct 1945. He only told me a few details of his time there. Probably not much excitement as he was a linesman in the Signal Corps. But I have his Photos and it speaks volume and many questions. I wished I could talk to him again. Sadly he passed in 1977.

Wow, I have not seen this before now.
I have stood on that beach and I have walked among the graves in the cemetery, and in both places.....tears welled up. So many graves..so many young men.
And do we honor their sacrifice? Are we any closer to the peace they fought for? I believe WE have let them down. We aren't quite as strong willed as they were...all or nothing...do or die.
Should we feel a little ashamed on Remembrance Days.......................I believe so.
