Whitetail Deer Log Leaping | Trail Cam Videos

- My original plan when setting up this trail cam at a downed log site was to capture whitetail deer buck, leaping over, and showing off their antlers. Unfortunately, I positioned this trail camera a little too late in the season and after all of the bucks had moved off to their wintering grounds.
Still, some neat video footage of whitetail doe and fawn taking the leap - as well as a few other forest critters taking the easy route under it.

Thanks so much for the kind donation, Steph - very much appreciated :)
Love your trailcam footage! Obviously a well traveled path. You motivated me to get my trailcam back out again. I live in Indianapolis in the city where there are some small patches of woods nearby. The excitement of checking my backyard footage everyday is addicting. A few years ago I got spooked during the rut season as I practically had a WWE match between three huge 10 and 12 point bucks in my backyard several nights in a row. One even stared down my barking Bassett through the sliding glass window as if to say..."Oh you stupid silly canine". Hearing the loud clanking of their entangled antlers steps away from my backdoor was too much so I pulled my cam to wait for calmer seasons to return. Thanks for sharing your footage!!
Glad to help with the motivation, Amy!!! Trail cams are definitely addicting. You just never know what you will capture which is the fun part of it. I pulled all of mine in January when the snow hit. Have had some stolen and too easy for someone to follow my boot prints right to them in the snow. Will be getting them all back out next week. Crazy story about the buck! I've crossed paths with 100's over the years but have never had a worry out there. Good luck this season!
They clear that log with such ease. Enjoyed watching.
They certainly do! I had this idea earlier in the season and wish I had placed the cam out here then. This was a deer trail and would have been neat to get some big bucks flying over there while chasing does. Next year for sure!
Hope all is well my friend...
👍 Really nice nature shots, and those deer, they make that leap look so effortless.
They certainly do. They could tackle a log twice that height with ease for sure. Next season I will place a few more cams at spots like this. Makes for interesting videos :) Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing ! Rocky Raccoon is in no hurry. 👍
You got that right! lol
Watch their tails. They cover their butts, except when they're running, and that last one wagging it before jumping from the spot. Reminds me of my cats.
They certainly do have some funny and great behaviours. And you're right - much like my cat as well :)
I'm in BC. One area i have, there's a barb-wire fence through the woods. The wt prefer to crawl under the fence, and the md always leap over. Does, that is. Obviously all bucks will jump over.
That interesting that two different species would take different approaches. Makes you wonder why? Thanks for sharing!
@@JustinHoffman i think it's to do with their normal movements. Muley are jumpers, bouncing when they run. Wt can be very sneaky. I've seen them hunker low and crawl on their belly, to avoid detection.
But ya, i found it very interesting how the two deer differed at that fence.
