But at the same time - I kinda wish they would just give us free capes, including re-releasing some old ones.
At this point, Mojang just need to add a new plant to the game, that way when people search for "Minecraft leak", they get a wiki page instead of a news article.

I like collecting capes as much for the designs as I can show off what events I was around for. In the past, if I could get a cape I would not pass up that opportunity, but I'm probably going to boycott this one on principal. Capes should be reserved for community events, whether that be online or offline.

Honestly, I think it's a better option to sell capes online (either as standalone items or as part of a bundle, like in this case) rather than giving them out for attending a specific location. This way, everyone has an equal chance to obtain them, regardless of where they are.
I got the creeper cape as the 15th anniversary cape, but that’s really the only cape I care about since that’s been my favorite mob since I started playing Minecraft back in 2013

I'd bet all my doubloons on the fact that mojang did this 'mistake' on purpose to test the waters and get the community's opinion on this feature.
