My understanding of armor is it has no negative effect on performance. Some people say it adds weight and thereby decreases performance, but I believe I've seen or read (probably from you, Broughy) that this is not true. However, I believe it may have a positive effect on performance. What I understand armor to do is that it makes a car more durable; or in other words, take less damage. Damage can hurt the performance of a car, especially when the axles start getting bent. In much of GTA racing, there can be a lot of contact throughout a race, whether with other cars or with lamp posts or barriers or whatever may be on the sides of the raceway. If armor helps to minimize damage, it helps to keep a higher level of performance for a longer period of time. In that sense, it seems that armor is beneficial. What are your thoughts on this?
Old comment, but Armor definitely effects performance negatively. I've drage raced people with the exact same car as me, full upgrades. I had no armor and a few of them did. I won 9 times out of 10 (Driver Skill + No Armor). That particular car is hard to launch and the Mid Drive is key to winning as well, and armor definitely had an effect on who won.
@@manyfailsonewin4352 9 months later, yeah I believe it. To be fair, it was on old gen with the Rapid GT speed glitch. Armor very well could have affected because you have to stance the rear wheels, and higher armor makes that harder. I'm also confident enough in my GTA driving abilities to say that I could have just been better than the rest.
+BDT I hate to sound like a broken record here but clearly anyone that thing he says fucked finding isn't from the UK...or at least doesn't know what ANY of the british accents sound like. my point is people say it every time. Does he say the f word etc. Being from the North East myself I cannot hear what people are banging on about unless you imagine a cockney saying 'fuck' then his a could be seen as a U. Its very amusing wathcing you share 2 years of research, experimenting and knowledge of the game in a 20 min video but people seem to be more interested in the way you pronounce fact. Oh well what can you do :P
Everyone knows the Declasse Rhapsody is the fastest car. It can have a racing stripe on the hood, flames behind the front wheels, epic exhaust, and be sure to make it red too.
Renegade Cz If it improves the overall racing experience then all the better. I personally suspect we'll now see people who didn't listen to what I said and can't handle their cars trying to kerb boost all over the place and cause more incidents XD
Going back and watching this video again in May 2018 one thing really stands out. At the time of this video the racing community was saying they don't like curb (yes, I'm American) boosting and tried to make tracks that eliminate as much as possible. Now we have new cars coming out that don't benefit from curb boosting and the racing community hates them. I understand the main reason is because all the older cars still get the boost so the new ones are slower on rough tracks but instead of saying they're worthless why not organize races using only the new cars? Personally I like the added realism and being able to use proper racing lines with the new cars when practicing on a track alone or racing with friends also in the new cars.
***** Not always... I remember having to drive an old work truck for my job every now and then, that you had to double clutch or the damn thing wouldn't go into third gear... So if you wanted to shift up, you better hit it twice or it gnashes the gears together... This is a by product of having a knackered clutch that wont engage properly lol
I think the different spoilers and other body mods are effecting center of mass more than anything. Which in turn effects things like oversteer vs understeer, anti-roll bar and MAYBE drag in some instances(I saw someone in the commenets say the blower hood option made the Rhapsody slower, Ill test that). . The spoiler that sits higher on the Osiris makes the car feel like it oversteers more and is more prone to rolling. I wont go say which I think is better but thats what I noticed. I dont think its a placebo effect but I also dont care to argue about it anymore. Im going to do what I think makes me go faster in game and thats all there is to it.
I thought the suspension would have made some handling difference but not really tested it myself.and i really do hate kerb boosting, it not only has players zooming all over the road but there is also the lamp posts, I have lost count the amount of races i have ended up flying in the air upside down due to people knocking lamp posts on road due to kerb boosting. You also forgot to mention chrome paint jobs and dollar rims make your car ultra fast.good video :)
Raymo reaper ***** Actually the suspension does make a difference at least for a non-pro racer like me. I’ve got mid-range suspension in all my short wheelbase cars and competition(or what’s the second lowest) on the long wheelbase ones(all have muscle or offroad tires btw, depending on looks). The effect of the softer suspension is that it “forgives” errors while driving full speed on small & sharp jumps + recovering from them and kerbs too. Makes the kerbs and the lamp post shit on the road feel softer and really reduces that “small launch to the air from a wrong aimed kerb/crap and ending sideways on the road”-effect. I’ve tested my vehicles on down the drain, don’t remember the time differences-there were small differences- but mainly the feel of the suspension on that track. It can be placebo, but them vehicles feel nicer & easier to drive than lowest possible option. And I'm not a pro.
I also pull the handbrake mid drive in real life to get a speed boost. I also hit those nasty curb boosts. People yell at me all the time, they are just jealous if my racing lines.
Good vid mate, I'd say your comment about gaining a minimal time not that important is a bit wrong. it's very important esp for time trials. I didn't know about the kerb thing, that's interesting. Winning races and iv won many on gta5 can come down to a fraction of a second so theses tips are great thanks. Keep up the good work with these vids, we appreciate these.
The reason why 'kerb boosting' works is that during the milisecond the wheels come off the curb, it spins and gives it a boost in acceleration. It's in the programming.
Hey Broughy, awesome video! The side by side comparisons were a nice addition. As a person who's watched most of your videos several times, practices a lot and is still way off the pace by a long shot....would love to see a video on proper breaking techniques/tips in gta. Cheers!
Tekk There's not really a lot more I can say above and beyond what I said in the racing school episode on the subject. Brake later and later until you find the right braking point for turn in. There's not an awful lot to it once you get that down.
From what I've seen, Suspension height DOES affect performance, it makes the bumps more noticeable, but also helps turning. In certain cars, suspension heights will make them even less stable or make them easier to oversteer
Great video Broughy, as always! I really wish that Rockstar would nerf the damn kerb boosting, so annoying and unrealistic in the middle of an otherwise brilliant racing experience. Either that or just have it as an on / off option in the race setup menu a la catch up and slipstreaming
I think since this video has been released, a new technique has been discovered: bump boosting / break boosting. I'm not sure on how it works, but I think when going over bumps in the road, you tap the break or something similar. Just wanted to bring it up, maybe some comments can add further detail.
When i race in random races with catch up off, i'm a lot slower on the straight line than many other racers. Do you have any idea why this is happening? My cars that i use are all custom vehicles with all the upgrades.
About that motorbike wheelie. If you lean forward when accelerating and wheelie a bit after that I've experienced that you will get a slightly better time than when you start of wheelying
This is just what we expect from a game like GTA 5. It’s not a actual racing game. That’s why the physics are bugged and we get people who don’t take racing seriously or just don’t know much about real racing call us cheaters or modders cause we use these tips and tricks. Sorry but it’s not cheating if everyone else does it. Great video and great explanation. Sadly those who just ain’t that serious about racing will still refuse to believe it
It's all mid drive... so I guess "mid drive speed boost" is correct from a technical standpoint. Silly, but correct. Mid shift speed boost would be a better name, since it happens during an upshift.
Yeah about spoilers, GUN1T123 seems to take the difference very seriously, he's able to describe its feelings for 2 differents spoilers with the Turismo, Zentorno and Osiris But I think it's more like a placebo effect, having a GT spoiler on my Osiris actually give me more confidence in coroners and I think it's just visual
The biggest (and ugliest) spoiler gives the Zentorno a much better handling! After I watched gun1t's video I tried out all spoilers. First I thought it was a placebo effect, too, because you cannot feel any difference between the first two spoilers. But the biggest one REALLY makes a differnece!
RC Showdown And others think the opposite, that the smaller spoilers are better. As I said, it's all about fine tuning to your own personal preferences
I go by the in game stat sheet whenever you go to remove a spoiler you see the loss of traction on the stat bar, and if you switch between any of the spoilers you see no change. Though I do feel more confident with the zentorno racing spoiler as well. I wish rockstar would quit being so vague about such petty stuff
That's a good idea but I feel like I already know what he'd say. The simple fact is that any time your wheels lose traction is time that you're not efficiently accelerating or slowing your vehicle.
Well it's just that, there is absolutely no possible situation in reality, either on private tracks or public streets, in which a vehicle travels through a corner sooner with a handbrake than by slowing to an appropriate speed and taking it with all your brakes. That said we're talking about GTA, things don't necessarily have to make sense.
Dirk Groovy The only time to use a handbrake is to either park the car, or to drift. The only time a drift is necessary is when on a u turn where it is to small to do a 180 turn in one full move or when driving off road where carrying the same amount of speed round a bend would cause you too understeer off the road and into a tree. Now i now people will say that the handbrake should never be used and on tarmac, id agree 100% but a rally driver will contradict them about the off road use.
Another excellent video. It was cool to recognize your videos that you reference in your explanations of other topics (racing line, etc), having watched them all-- I feel satisfied that I'm getting a collection of nothing but the best knowledge. Thanks for all your hard work Broughy! :D Yours is truly one of my most favorite and respected channels, and for good reason! Cheers.
Kerb boosting is actually a thing? Is this for fucking real? I don't even know if I want to race anymore, that's the worst thing I've ever heard. I mean I knew this game was no racing sim, but that really breaks my balls.
Praise the Sun My saltiness aside though, this video was fantastic and very informative. Learned a lot with the mid drive speed boost. But those fucking kerbs....
Praise the Sun Yeah its kind of crazy but when you get "airborn" the rpm's shoot up quick and you get a little extra acceleration. And yes, salty can be an understatement when you get passed by these people.
When i make tracks I usually don't make an effort to block Kerb boosts. It's in the game and no matter how hard I try to erraticate it it will still be there I do however make sure that you aren't cutting a corner too much
Very nice video man. Btw that Imponte Ruiner reminds me the one you used a while back when you had tested if armor, bumpers, engine ecc. would help you go quicker

There's not an awful lot to it once you get that down.
im top forza motorsport racer watching ur videos makes me wanna try get gd like u in gta racing
From what I've seen, Suspension height DOES affect performance, it makes the bumps more noticeable, but also helps turning. In certain cars, suspension heights will make them even less stable or make them easier to oversteer
I agree
U can do the mid drive speed boost multiple times. If u are really good at it u can make the banshee be faster than the Osiris in a drag race.
That must have been painful taking those corners so badly :P thanks for posting
KrylliKsGaming It was quite hard to do I admit haha
Great video Broughy, as always!
I really wish that Rockstar would nerf the damn kerb boosting, so annoying and unrealistic in the middle of an otherwise brilliant racing experience.
Either that or just have it as an on / off option in the race setup menu a la catch up and slipstreaming
Dan Watson Yep!
I think since this video has been released, a new technique has been discovered: bump boosting / break boosting. I'm not sure on how it works, but I think when going over bumps in the road, you tap the break or something similar. Just wanted to bring it up, maybe some comments can add further detail.
not new, brakeboosting is at least 3 years old. ruclips.net/video/AwsezpFOk7g/видео.html
This video needed making. Thank you
these days all world records for racing are around 10s 😂
I'm so proud I learned the Mid-Drive Speed Boost myself without anyone's tip :) Known about since the game's release pretty much.
Definitely gonna watch all of this when I get a moment.
Amazing video, great work as always broughy
***** Thanks! Glad to help :)
Off-road tires that's horrible, however thanks for information Broughy! :)
Great video as always!
Blazed it at 6:34

not a fan of MLG stuff tbh, but had to do it.

Love the fact finding episodes.
This was a good one.
Crazy that you upload everyday. Not to long ago it was 2 times a week. It's awesome :)
Mighty Quinn Cheers! I'm trying! :)
Great job! earned a sub :3
Thanks!
+Broughy1322 same
When i race in random races with catch up off, i'm a lot slower on the straight line than many other racers. Do you have any idea why this is happening? My cars that i use are all custom vehicles with all the upgrades.
Av3nG3Dz You need to kerb boost :)
+Steam Fanboy
I mean straight line racing (and straight lines in general) like highway races etc. where some are much faster than me
this video is the one that got me into racing in general
Even the standard GTA style can beat me
About that motorbike wheelie. If you lean forward when accelerating and wheelie a bit after that I've experienced that you will get a slightly better time than when you start of wheelying
13:51 V-TEC KICKED IN YO!
Thanks Broughy.. This is exactly what i was in need of. Much appreciated
Pezby69 Glad to help!
at 9:31, that's closest I've seen any one clip an apex on GTA5. lol wow.
You've seen nothing yet :P
that isn't very close at all lol
This is just what we expect from a game like GTA 5. It’s not a actual racing game. That’s why the physics are bugged and we get people who don’t take racing seriously or just don’t know much about real racing call us cheaters or modders cause we use these tips and tricks. Sorry but it’s not cheating if everyone else does it. Great video and great explanation. Sadly those who just ain’t that serious about racing will still refuse to believe it
does the wheelie on bikes still matter with bikes that can't wheelie like the acuma or the bagger
Yes
*Laughs in Hakuchou Drag* then i remember it can't wheelie so i cri
Thank you broughy! I've learned so much from this video! Some interesting points and well discussed :)
Broughy are you eventually switching to the PC version or will you stay on the ps4?
Menno Van Rooijen Who knows what the future brings.
***** I do.
Cool stuff Broughy, never heard of the PC thing. Keep up the awesome videos!
Why didn't you put the color blue + blue on the ruiner? It would have confused a lot of people and you could have had a laugh :D
It's all mid drive... so I guess "mid drive speed boost" is correct from a technical standpoint. Silly, but correct. Mid shift speed boost would be a better name, since it happens during an upshift.
Sounds like you're saying "Fucked Finding". Oh and yea, sanic.
Amazing channel!Keep it up!This is my my first vid and straight away subbed.
Thanks :)
0:06 No need to cuss, bro.
he said fact finding,it’s he’s accent
i loved this video i didnt know about kerb boosting :O nice!
Yeah about spoilers, GUN1T123 seems to take the difference very seriously, he's able to describe its feelings for 2 differents spoilers with the Turismo, Zentorno and Osiris
But I think it's more like a placebo effect, having a GT spoiler on my Osiris actually give me more confidence in coroners and I think it's just visual
Jonathan K. Yep like I said, different opinions about it and it's impossible to say one way or another, so just go with what you feel is best :)
***** yeah, that's right!
Wow!!! Thanks for the great tips!!!
Can you do a video about hand braking?
That's a good idea but I feel like I already know what he'd say. The simple fact is that any time your wheels lose traction is time that you're not efficiently accelerating or slowing your vehicle.
I mean like more specific, when it is better to use hand braking as suppose to just normal braking
Dirk Groovy Don't need a video to answer that question: Never.
Cheers.
Kakarot307 Thanks I appreciate that! Glad you enjoyed the way the video was made too, and thanks for continually making sure you watch everything :D
Funny how you didn't mention that drifting slightly in the corner is actually the best way to go faster....
Haha XD
Except it absolutely isnt. Even in GTA V, wich is by no means a sim racing game.
Awesome video! Just joined your crew 😁
I wanna go fast like sonic
Lomein719 Then Make The Car Blue, Red And White
Thanks for clearing the mid drive boost y hate when they call it double clutch
Kerb boosting is actually a thing? Is this for fucking real? I don't even know if I want to race anymore, that's the worst thing I've ever heard. I mean I knew this game was no racing sim, but that really breaks my balls.
Praise the Sun My saltiness aside though, this video was fantastic and very informative. Learned a lot with the mid drive speed boost. But those fucking kerbs....
Praise the Sun Glad to help! Your frustration is something we've all felt in the GTA racing community at one time or another :)
Praise the Sun Yeah its kind of crazy but when you get "airborn" the rpm's shoot up quick and you get a little extra acceleration. And yes, salty can be an understatement when you get passed by these people.
When i make tracks I usually don't make an effort to block Kerb boosts. It's in the game and no matter how hard I try to erraticate it it will still be there I do however make sure that you aren't cutting a corner too much

miss those memes
Very nice video man. Btw that Imponte Ruiner reminds me the one you used a while back when you had tested if armor, bumpers, engine ecc. would help you go quicker
Alessandro Antonetti That's why I used it. I wondered if anyone would see the link
***** Haha, nice move by you ;)
I was about to write a comment like "you used your old footage!". But then, when you came out the LSC, I saw the new map styling in the bottom left corner and realized that it was on Next Gen.
M8 your lines are all wrong you have to stay on the inside all the time cos its shorter !!!11
Been waiting for this vid for so long :)
Karsten Beast-_-98 Glad to finally get it out :)
Hate that kerb boosting and the offroad tires..destroys the whole racing in gta ..its just cheating in a race..
I wouldn't say off-roading tires are, but curb boosting is
It's only cheating if the players agree that it's cheating.
+Car Of Doom It's only cheating if Rockstar says it's cheating. Players can only rule something as "unfair".
I hate the wheelie speed boost. It feels so cheap when someone overtakes you with it, but they can't turn while doing it so it's completely balanced.
Adam Johnson But Is Easy Tô Learn
As a German I heard "GTA f*cked finding" love it
NYAH BLAH BLAH, 7 second differnce from 'racing lines'? pftt, BS, 7 seconds is nothing, just smash that racing line noob off the track, also ur drift was terribe, thats where ur 7 second went NOOB! Downliked.
***** Hahahaha this made me LOL
Good explanation mate, thank you 😊
Great vid! Thanks for all the hard work you put into your videos.
Barry Gibbons You're very welcome, thanks for watching :)
Thanks for your work, greatly appreciated
