I used to love these things , I was in a ZF LTD once, and you couldn't feel a thing on the road, with a V8 though , it's much more refined, feels like you are sitting in a leather armchair at home. Sad when they announced the LTD wasn't getting enough attention from limo companies, I really believed they missed out on a great riding car to add to their fleet
Your spot on mate.. After being in a BF fairlane and test driving a g6e turbo I can say the only thing good on the fg is that it was turbo.. ride drive seating viewing all better in the BF.. great review, this will be goin up in price as years come
That is a lovely example that’s for sure credit to the owner….. I owned the BA2 LTD and the DL 98 LTD in v8s and the look of the BA2 was just to falcon like in my opinion the DL I should have never sold that was a magic car and looked the part…. Lovely vehicle though 👍
Was a fleet manager at a rental company. Enjoyed my Fairmont company car but the durability of the interior of the BA/BF left a lot to be desired. Common issues were drivers door window control, bonnet release, the shiny trim on the rear door grabs, cup holder lids. Also the 18”* Rebel/XR6/8 wheels are weak and bent often. Also we had a diff leak on a 1 week old car in the car park of a brand new hotel, was a big job for the dealership apprentice on the broom there. Putting the ZF in it was a class move.
This would be a great car on long trips. Was a shame they stopped building these. I remember a Ford guy at work said they were all buying 300c Chryslers .
Hey jono love all your vids, i have the series 2 fairlane ghia sportsman sparkling burgundy which i bought in 06. Thank you for the video Ross. Nice review. I know I asked you about a LTD video. This answers the question. Australian LTD lived on long after the LTD died in the United States. This is a very nice looking car. Nicely loaded car too. You said Lincoln Town Car styling. It was Lincoln , but it was not Town Car. It was 1988-1994 Lincoln Continental: ruclips.net/video/sfARKMZIzb4/видео.html Your Ford had a V8 and rear drive. The Lincoln shared is front wheel drive and a V6.
Having owned both an AU Series 1 LTD as well as a 2007 BF LTD (still own), I very much concur with your point on ride quality and premium level. The BF is the better road handling car whereas the AU really was the last of the true Ford LTD's. The AU just seemed to be a higher quality trim/assembled car, as compared to the BF. The B Series cars, although far more popular than the AU, were very much a cookie cutter version of each other (Falcon/Fairmont/Fairlane/LTD). And I think that this is the reason why these LWB cars went away as they were too similar to the base models. However, I only sold the AU, to buy the BF and the BF is my preferred car. One that I will have for a long time to come. Are they worth $25K to $50K??? Kinda struggle with that one a bit, but hey, I could be completely wrong.
glad you agreed with my comments between the 2 in ride quality! definitely worth at least 25k-40k this one with 80km on the clock completely original and immaculate! would fetch decetnt money i feel to a collector
I was aware that previous LTD's had low numbers like only 300 or so were made each year fairlane ghias were about 3000 Each year , but only 50 BF ,that's another story , every man and his dog will be chasing one , there in that same collectability league of AU Sportsman TL50 TS50 Less than 500 of those made

With 500 hp 351 Windsors but custom paint and interior but top loader and have plenty of different 9 inch drive gears for ratios under different drive gears 4 / 11 s but don’t plan on a Sunday cruise. But one has run a respectable 11.6 which for a big car I’m happy.beautiful cars.
Butt it’s cool I’m not into man shave on my balls. They do periodically give off a Parmesan cheese kick. But bit of the tough SALVO EXTRA SAND ALL SWEET.
It's a shame Ford USA never allowed Ford AU to export these. The engineering was so much better than the U.S arm's equivalent Lincolns and Fords, but ultimately the internal politics within Ford made sure that Ford Australia never had a chance.
@@MartinJones123 The 5.4 is smooth and effortless, more so than the 5.0. I test drove a few AU 5.0's and to me the power plant did not feel much more powerful than the I6. Not enough to justify a v8 version. That's why I ended up with a G220, and are very happy
The interior looks a bit drab and plastic with the steering wheel and dash. Doesn't really look like a high end luxury car. Think the AU is alot nicer on the interior
Idk if most LTD owners in geelong can’t look after a car or what. But majority of any generation LTD I see on the road in geelong are clear coatless sun damaged shit boxes. Why did you refer to this as a Barra V8. As far as I understand the Barra was only the twin double over head cam 6 BA to FGX. This 5.4 I believe was termed Triton, whilst the second gen FG had the Coyote. I'm happy to stand corrected & intend no disrespect.
@@RossReviewsau i do stand corrected, good thought provocation though. They were known as both but the 230 was Barra, unsure why. Bit grumpy in my old age.
unless I am mistaken I thought the barra was the straight 6 ford made from 2002 till the end of production. Happy to be wrong. Then I hadn't read the comments
@@keidasyou are 100% wrong The base v8 is referred to as the barra220 220 is for kw, later versions with 2 knock censors and ZF 6 speed automatic were 230kw It’s basically the triton v8 from America but we actually got it first and locally cast a different intake and exhaust manifolds for it, it has 3 valves per cylinder and 1 camshaft per head and vct. I have one in my manual BAmk11 XT falcon The boss 260 is the performance v8 for the XR8 and GT
Yeah it’s technically the triton 5.4L however was marketed in Australia & NZ as the Barra V8 it’s really a truck V8 production numbers were very low was used in the BF LTD, BA G220, XT and could be fitted into the XLS ute less than 300 of those were ever made
The real shame with this last model of LTD is that it looks tooooo much like a Falcon, inside and out. Ford Australia really skimped with the budget and it shows. At least the AU LTD stood apart from its poor cousin, the Falcon. No way would I have paid 70k for a BF LTD in the day.
I think $20,000 for the badges and a few gadgets and altered upholstery was a ripoff and not worth the upgrade. I'd be happy enough when a Fairlane. The DH and DK LTD from 1979 -1984 was the last LTD that looked way above the rest inside and out. This last iteration is the worst in lack of differentiation. The dash and steering wheel looked too similar to an upper spec Falcon for my liking. Ford just lost pride in their flagship by the 2000s and plainly didn't care as much, probably not helped by the fact the lower models were well equipped anyway. And the obsession with being sporty. Couldn't this be left as a floaty boat? Many people don't care about going around witches hats without hitting them.
Barra230 never herd of that the barra220 tho 75k that's weird the g220 was only 63k makes no sense the g220 was the top of the line fairlane I knk this because my brother has one the barr220 was very problematic witch rendered it very unpopular due to its timing chains issues not to mention they like to snap the spark plus off inside the heads 😳 no real performance mods for them off the shelf they actually a ford triton engine out of the f150's in the states ford Australia just renamed it lol
I see where it can be confusing, the BA, BF 5.4L BARRA 3 VALVE V8 was based on the modular engine but in the barra family, so no one called that specific v8 a modular
Ok, a history lesson. You can nickname your engine whatever you want but for accuracy, there is no v8 “barra”. It simply does not exist. In 1990 Ford US released a new platform v8 engine designated “modular”. This engine replaced the Cleveland and Windsor pushrod v8s. The name “modular” is from the new manufacturing process. The “modular” family of engines ranges from the 4.6 - 6.8 v10. It includes the 5.4 and the 5.0 coyote. These engines were designed in the US and were manufactured in Windsor, Ontario. They delivered the first of the 3v 5.4 to australia for the falcon range and then put them in f series trucks, explorers, Lincoln’s etc. FPV took the block and the crank of the “modular” 5.4 and modified it before building a completely new engine known in Australia as the “boss”. Similarly FPV did the same to the 5.0 “coyote” block and were allowed to rename it the “Miami”. Meanwhile in Australia…….. Ford Australia designed and built the next phase of their 4.0 straight 6s. This is a twin cam, 24v VCT. This engine was named the”barra”. It didn’t exist in the US. Wasn’t designed in the US. Wasn’t built in the US and has no association whatsoever to the US designed, Canadian built v8s. The Aussie “barra” and the 5.4 “modular” are not related in any way barring dropping them in Aussie falcons. You can nickname them whatever you want but it is not accurate. Loved the review.
Hi Ross, I have a 2005 BA MkII G220 Black Fairlane. I'm wanting to know where or what website I go to to find out how many of my particular model was sold in Australia with Black, Buege Interior, Sun Roof, Sat Nav etc.??
@@user-ye1se9qm8m Yeah... That's what I was saying, the AU looks different while this gen looks too similar to your standard old BA Falcon with some chrome...
@@MartinJones123 that's why I think the statesman from this era was better. Since it looks a lot more different than the standard commodore sedan. Albeit while having a similar interior.
@@RossReviewsau Cheers, are you talking B series ZB from the 60's ? Have a look at P5 and P6 LTD's 73-79 Or Fairlane/Marquis from 76-79. They look much diff from Falcon. Even ZC/D 69-71 had vertical headlights and looked diff to Falcon. That's why Ford was smashing Statesman sales back then, which looked to much like a Premier. Ford fell into that same trap ( due to limited funds, after the AU debacle ) with the last Fairlane/LTD's, shown here.
@@RossReviewsau Yes. Flashback to 1972 when the American Galaxie was retired in favour of the first Aussie LTD. No mistaking that for a Fairlane or Falcon. The same goes for the next LTD in 1976. Even the XD based LTD managed to look different from the Fairlane. That was the secret to Ford's success in this market slot, cars that couldn't be mistaken from their cheaper brothers.

Still have my satellite remote in my GTP happy I don’t use it anymore because it’s been a long time since an upgrade. Definitely a noticeable difference compared to a normal falcon you see everyday
That’s right! Pretty cool feature eh! 😅 not many falcons got the upgrade
Love to have one beautiful luxury ride
It’s so good! Very very luxurious 😩
oh man thats class.. credit to the owner!
The owner was a legend and really took pride in this LTD 👀👍
Your spot on mate..
After being in a BF fairlane and test driving a g6e turbo I can say the only thing good on the fg is that it was turbo.. ride drive seating viewing all better in the BF.. great review, this will be goin up in price as years come
The FG interior feels super cheap... LOL
yup they really lost the premium ness in the g6e and basically got hardly anything better than a standard falcon eh
@@RossReviewsau You're right... And the high seating in the FG/FG-X is a deal breaker... Though is there any mod you could do to make the seat lower?
@@MartinJones123 The seat definitely goes lower in my 2003 G220 than my 2008 BF fairmont

Cheers you legend 🙏
That is a lovely example that’s for sure credit to the owner…..
I owned the BA2 LTD and the DL 98 LTD in v8s and the look of the BA2 was just to falcon like in my opinion the DL I should have never sold that was a magic car and looked the part….
Lovely vehicle though 👍
yup the AU LTD did have more unique ness to her.. this was awesome but felt a bit underdone
The roof profile of long wheel base is much better than the egg looking AU-BA-Bf in my opinion
They were 18 inch not 19
@@out_on_bail my bad.
yup i know all too well the little probles of a B series haha..
This would be a great car on long trips. Was a shame they stopped building these. I remember a Ford guy at work said they were all buying 300c Chryslers .
I am lucky enough to own a BA LTD... very nice car.
that is lucky!
I got the G220, lovely smooth effortless, quiet power
LTD stands for Lincoln type design. Not Limited.
Fabulously preserved.
Museum quality
That’s one nice ride.
One less car as my dad rode his off in 2014. All I have left of it is the keys.

@ silver lining is that I own a 2003 Ford BA Fairlane Ghia, since 2018 and still going strong.
Hey jono love all your vids, i have the series 2 fairlane ghia sportsman sparkling burgundy which i bought in 06. Worth noting that it comes with same but black premium howe leather package like the ltd, and factory momo woodgrain wheel. Also my 96 xr6 manual ute I had as an apprentice had a factory momo wheel in it. The el wheel is compatible to au and vice versa and airbag so yeah just a cool deal. I have the momo el gt wood wheel in in my el fairmont ghia and ba fairlane chunky wheel in my ba xr6t ute, and wife has territory turbo ghia with chunky wheel.
I'm a proud owner of a 2002 Crown Victoria and must say this LTD is Bad Ass !!

@@RossReviewsau I've never seen that car, it's beautiful. That would be awesome for Southern California. I visited Australia back in the mid 80s and really loved the Ford Falcon design and got to drive one which was a blast.

the previous model LTD/fairlane before this one looked even more like an australian version of a crown vic.

very nice will be a collectors item very shortly the V8 is nice but imagine the barra turbo under that hood
That would have been interesting eh! Definitely a collectors car
The Lincoln shared is front wheel drive and a V6.
love the old lincolns! my uncle still has one in canada
I would LOVE one of the last long boys as as a daily driver
they are so comfy
In v8 or 6
Having owned both an AU Series 1 LTD as well as a 2007 BF LTD (still own), I very much concur with your point on ride quality and premium level.
I still like the roof line in the long wheel base, ten times better than an AU-BA-BF egg shape
Beautiful car
It’s a museum piece
So the fairlanes utes and wagons were built onf a different line to the standard falcon as they were longer by 100mm
Makes sense I guess eh

Butt it’s cool I’m not into man shave on my balls. They do periodically give off a Parmesan cheese kick. But bit of the tough SALVO EXTRA SAND ALL SWEET.
It's a shame Ford USA never allowed Ford AU to export these. The engineering was so much better than the U.S arm's equivalent Lincolns and Fords, but ultimately the internal politics within Ford made sure that Ford Australia never had a chance.
its always been a shame ford australia never got the respect they deserved.. the barra especially was a world class engine
It was outsold by the Holden Caprice by about 25,000 to 1. No wonder Ford pulled the plug.

@@MartinJones123 The 5.4 is smooth and effortless, more so than the 5.0. I test drove a few AU 5.0's and to me the power plant did not feel much more powerful than the I6. Not enough to justify a v8 version. That's why I ended up with a G220, and are very happy

The ltd is a fairlane not a falcon Ross. Slightly different

Why did you refer to this as a Barra V8. As far as I understand the Barra was only the twin double over head cam 6 BA to FGX. This 5.4 I believe was termed Triton, whilst the second gen FG had the Coyote. I'm happy to stand corrected & intend no disrespect.
From my knowledge it’s always been called the Barra V8..
The Barra is a straight 6 (the legend) but also there was a modular “Barra” V8
Barra v8?? Pretty sure the barra is the name for the straight 6, i could be wrong but i do own one?
There is a Barra v8 this is it
@RossReviewsau nah fact checked that, the inline 6 engines commonly found in the ba bf and fg falcon are the "barra" the v8 is the boss or coyote
@@keidasyou are 100% wrong
The base v8 is referred to as the barra220 220 is for kw, later versions with 2 knock censors and ZF 6 speed automatic were 230kw
It’s basically the triton v8 from America but we actually got it first and locally cast a different intake and exhaust manifolds for it, it has 3 valves per cylinder and 1 camshaft per head and vct.
I have one in my manual BAmk11 XT falcon
The boss 260 is the performance v8 for the XR8 and GT
Did you say Barra 230?
Yes sir
@@RossReviewsau I had no clue they even designated a ‘Barra’ V8.
The barra V8s were a 3 valve versions of the 5.4 boss 4v, BAs had 220kw and BFs had 230kw

It is, like I said tho a not as nice one can go for like 20k.. this one tho… has to be 50k so mint
Barra V8? That’s the first I’ve heard of that.
Yeah it’s technically the triton 5.4L however was marketed in Australia & NZ as the Barra V8 it’s really a truck V8 production numbers were very low was used in the BF LTD, BA G220, XT and could be fitted into the XLS ute less than 300 of those were ever made
They do exist 😈 basically a truck motor 😂
The G6 didn't replace the Fairlane/LTD, it replaced the Fairmont
He didn't say it did, he was just referencing there interiors
The real shame with this last model of LTD is that it looks tooooo much like a Falcon, inside and out. Ford Australia really skimped with the budget and it shows. At least the AU LTD stood apart from its poor cousin, the Falcon. No way would I have paid 70k for a BF LTD in the day.
yeh the AU did look a bit more special
Definitely was a lot of cash! That’s why not many were ever made
Barra230 never herd of that the barra220 tho 75k that's weird the g220 was only 63k makes no sense the g220 was the top of the line fairlane I knk this because my brother has one the barr220 was very problematic witch rendered it very unpopular due to its timing chains issues not to mention they like to snap the spark plus off inside the heads 😳 no real performance mods for them off the shelf they actually a ford triton engine out of the f150's in the states ford Australia just renamed it lol
Yup they are truck engines I’m told 🤣 but they did make a Barra 230👍
There wasn’t ever a “Barra” v8. The 5.4l was the “modular” v8. The barra is the 6.
Beautiful car.
Yes the "Barra" everyone knows and loves is the 6 cyl but the v8 that came out in this was technically under the barra family and thus a "barra v8"
I see where it can be confusing, the BA, BF 5.4L BARRA 3 VALVE V8 was based on the modular engine but in the barra family, so no one called that specific v8 a modular
People call them a Barra V8 👍 just from what I know
@@RossReviewsau It is the correct name for that engine, personally i never knew about it and my mate told me and i thought it was bulls*it lol
