      I got one for 1800 with a new engine. it was a county employee vehicle , bought it at one of their auctions . It's a 09 2.5 the thing is in immaculate shape. I've had it for about a year now , I've replaced the crankshaft sensor. I love the stability and the torque for such a little car, I had it tuned and remapped the air fuel mix and with everything stock it dynoed at 218 hp. messing around I've smoked a Camaro and a challenger both 6 cyl though lol. These cars are fun, thinking of a turbo next.

    To anyone watching this and thinking about turbocharging their 2.5 for the love of god don’t buy the Hans Turbo kit. Turboing the 2.5 is a very expensive project roughly 6k-12k. Currently the only turbo manifold that can be purchased new is from SPA going for $450 from there it’s a DIY project all the way comprised of sorting parts and fabrication. Unless it’s a novelty or project you really want just get a GTI or GLI for the same price. In my case I am going the Intergrated Engineering Route which is roughly 3k for their performance parts and then going with a Borla exhaust. Also please note the Audi 2.5T and VW 2.5l are not the same engine build very differently. The only swap I have seen of a Audi 2.5T on a VW Rabbit was almost 30k the engine alone was a salvaged RS3 engine and trans. Anyways good luck to anyone and their project 2.5s.

    • @Siriusgxmiq
      @Siriusgxmiq  2 года назад +2

      Yeah, another thing to mention is that the 2.5T block is made of aluminum and is completly different from the iron block 2.5 N/A

    Be careful when it comes to suspension mod. Those engineers know what they are doing. I you can't just willy nilly throw stuff on, you can upset the handling dynamics. I have a Mk6 wagon and I'm going to install the VW DG sport springs with Koni yellow dampers. These are essentially GTI springs, so they are factory approved. I will have the install shop dial in the rebound damping to match the spring rate. This is important. Plus you don't want overly stiff springs. The suspension needs to be compliant on the street. Race stuff is for the track. I am not messing w/ the sway bars. A stiffer rear bar on a front drive car can reduce understeer, but it can also lead to 'lift off oversteer'. I'm not an engineer, so will not second guess.
    Performance tires make a huge difference, but again you can go overboard. Super grippy summer compound tires a) are expensive and wear quickly, b) pick up rocks and then spray onto your paint, and c) can put stress on the suspension it was not designed to handle if you take advantage of the grip. If you gain massive lateral grip and drive the car hard, you are going to wear out the suspension bushings, unless you swap in hard plastic race type. Not to mention stress on ball joints, etc. I run Eagle F1 A/S (unfortunately discontinued) A great blend of performance, comfort, all season use and affordability.
    Hate to sound like a dad, but ya gotta be smart about upgrades.
    I looked into software tunes, but there's only so much you can do with an N/A motor. I'm sure with the IE engine and tranny (I have the tiptoe trans) it would be more lively and fun, but it is very expensive for what you get.
    And turbo, done correctly is probably gonna cost more than the car.
    Don't get me wrong. I love the 2.5. Probably best motor VW ever made. Just bullet proof. Sure I wish it had 200hp. But I don't have to worry about carbon buildup, or blown turbos, or sketchy high pressure fuel pumps. It's fast/quick enough to be fun in a daily driver.
    Oh, a great inexpensive easy to install mod are upgraded brake pads. I run EBC red's and they are great. Much better bite and easier to modulate than stock. If you wanna drive swiftly, you have to stop quickly.

      @@evilpanther990 No doubt. 🤓 I've since done the IE tune. It's fantastic. Car is much more lively thanks to the big increase in torque (215 ft/lb) 0-60 in 6.9, which is on par w/ stock GTI of the era. Penalty, besides price of software, is requirement to run premium fuel. Oh.....Koni Sports are a bit over damped for stock GTI springs. The FSD would be a better choice. With the Sport, the suspension is compliant, but stiff......you fell every road imperfection. Handles great though.
