I'm NOT Alone!
In this Adventure, heavy rain is approaching the mountains and it's the perfect time to set up a massive tarp and to enjoy the conditions.
Get ready for heavy rain, a nice fire and some great food.

Dryer sheets, placed in a ball cap or back of the T-shirt repel lots of bugs. Canvas way too heavy. Mylar reflective blankets with huge pieces of plastic would hold better heat inside, especially with a fire built out front. Awesome trail cam footage. As a kid, been chased and pecked in the head by turkeys; they're relentless. Friend Charlie years ago was truck camping, left the camper lid open, woke up to the truck rocking and a bear trying to climb in with him. He heard dogs in the distance barking. Looked at the bear and said hey you can't come in here with me! It looked at him and grinded, climb back down and went around the truck and up in the woods. Set shortly a pack of dogs came by ran around the truck and up in the woods too. Can you shut up the camper lid and open the windows and went back to sleep. Bears like to sleep in trees. Usually about 30ft up, their nest looking like a huge squirrel nest of leaves.
Canvas Tents belong in past centuries. I've used them - Bulky & Heavy. OK if they are Set-up for a period of time. Just love the Gadgets. Like the Shout-outs.
Stove is terrible - seen much better. Big Rocks - coals - grill in a pit. Like the Cook wear & Clip Handles. Glad the Bear didn't mess with your stuff - outside.
I used to perk my coffee in the morning. Did a lot of truck camping in Rangely Lake. Fall. Get up - go downtown - have a Sportsman Breakfast. Good for the day. Good Overnight. Thanks.
I just started SOLO camping, after MANY YEARS and purchased a 4 man tent made by Ozark Mountain...Amazed as to how quickly it sets up,breaks down, and dries in a day
after a torrential down pour... As compared to the canvas tent my parents had back.in the 60s...
So funny on the Saki. I was shouting at the screen, “ don’t chug a lug that, ahhh no. “. And then you commented on how smooth it was. Made it even funnier..
I grew up with the old Baker Canvas Tents 1960 in the Boy Scouts, they never leaked but were very heavy and after Campout we had to broom them off and hang them to dry before storing. We got inveventive and took 3 and made like a "T" which turned out to loads of fun, still never leaked but if not properly setup you would have a swimming pool on you, still never leaked, Boy Scouts from 1957 to 1997
I see that you are wearing a smart watch. You will enjoy it. I purchased one when I up graded to an iPhone 14. While on my cycling adventures, It not only monitors Speed, Distance and Riding Time. It monitors my heart rate, elevation and climb change. I have done hot tent in my yard. I have used the Buddy Mr heater, and I have used a 1500 watt heater connected to my outdoor outlet via a 12 wire gauge extension cord. The outlet uses a GFI protector.
My husband passed away last year on our anniversary September 3rd 2022 and he and I loved watching your videos. It was our favorite video to watch each week as you did a review on items.
He was 8 years older than myself, but you wouldn't have known it because everything I wanted to do, he would follow me right along.
If I wanted to go camping he'd go camping, If I wanted to bike he would bike, We had recumbent trikes and we triked all over Ohio on the rail trails.
If I wanted to kayak he would kayak on Alum Creek in Ohio.
I miss him terribly.
He was 82 when he passed.
I'm 75 now.
And I still do those things that kept us young at heart.
Only thing is I do it with my good friend Susan now. But now she has a boyfriend and I'm going to be like out in the backfield so to speak.
But I did manage to take a trip out west with my cousin Linda.
We spent 28 days on the road driving through state to state seeing things that we've never seen before until I arrived in Ashland Oregon. It's been a week with my sister who I hadn't seen in 12 years, and then from there drove down to Bakersfield, California and back across the United States stopping in Zuni New Mexico to visit the Navajo Indian reservation.
Just to give you a little bit about myself. Don't ever stop doing what you do because it cheers me up to watch your videos.
I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your husband and friend, Rebecca! But it is great that you made so many great experiences since then. Take care, be wild and lots of love from Germany.
@@NashBen
Thank you, NashBen.
I'm a survivor.
Dinner!!!!❤ haha
Luke, you have to try it. Any crust you like, ham, pineapple, mozzarela. Light on the sauce, tends to over power the rest.
Just try it!❤
I so enjoy your positivity. : )
What an adorable Baby Chainsaw!!
I gave my big one away because I'm 61 and don't need to be cutting my leg off. I also have no use for a Big Boi chainsaw anymore.
But that Baby Stihl would be perfect around the yard for small trash trees.
Thanks.
I had a large canvas tent that was waterproof, had it for 20+ years with absolutely no problems! No leaks no rot, nothing 🤷♀️ I didn’t do anything to it either. Only got rid of it when I bought and RV.
I have a canvas tent and put it through rain 70 mph winds ~ 8 inches of snow in one night and never had an issue. Yes they are bulky and heavy but it’s the warmest homiest tent I’ve ever owned.
I loved our pop up tent canoeing. Hit the shore with a storm coming up in a minute inside. Dry and snug
I live in central Pennsylvania and thankfully, there have been many landowners who have donated their land to conservancies. It has created many miles of trails along with opportunities to spend time in the woods. I'm glad I live where I live.
A canvas tent can keep you dry. First hand experience in canvas pup tents that were old 30 to 40 years ago. You have to accout for the wicking properties, and avoid touching the inside of a wet wall. And make sure the tent is well dried before putting it away. The same discipline serves well with single wall synthetic fiber tents.
My husband and I have primitive camp for years. Best tent in the $400-600 range is the pahaque! Tall for men and sturdy. We camped in snow, ice , thunderstorms. We saw a Coleman tent ripped to shreds and r tent was perfect.
To your viewer Rob and his wife Carrie, may the light of the Lord shine upon you during this difficult time. May he heal you and embrace you with his love. May he fill your hearts with gratitude and fulfillment. May the Lord our Father take away your pain and suffering. Do not be sad but rejoice for you are in the presence of the Lord who gave his only son so mankind would live forever in his house. I will pray for you, Rob and you Carrie, that you are able to have the strength and enduring love in these dark days. Only God knows what the future has for you but we hold our faith high in knowing you will not be alone. I pray for healing and the love of the Lord to bring his light and warmth to you. God Bless! 🙏
I had a 83 3/4 TON GMC with a shell on it I did a lot of my camping like that enjoyed it so much 👍👍👍👍👍👍
ha! bob kitties! how cute!
Luke,
I understand precisely what you are talking about when bringing up canvas tents. My dad was career Navy. Somewhere in his career, he learned to work with canvas. He was pretty good at it. He made an A-frame canvas tent, supported with a metal frame that snapped together and held the tent up.
All of the negative things you said about canvas tents are true, and more. As kids in the early 60s, we visited our aunt and uncle in Baytown, Texas. It was in the Spring, but an unseasonable warm one. Since more people were visiting than there were beds available, he set up the tent in the backyard.
No ground cloth, so we sprayed the grass with insecticide (imagine the smell). We did have wood/canvas cots (remember the Boy Scouts summer camps). When you closed the door flaps, it was dark, even in the daytime.
While Dad could sew canvas, he knew little about designing a tent. There was no ventilation or protection from bugs, except to close the door flaps. Nighttime in that part of Texas is mosquito heaven, so we had to button up the doors or be eaten alive. Think about the tents you see in Civil War photographs. That’s what the tent resembled. Sleeping in this tent was like being inside an Indian Sweat Lodge.
This tent was a car-camp tent because it was too heavy to carry on your back. I’m glad our visit was limited to two nights. Sleeping under the stars, even with the mosquitoes, was much preferred to the inside of the tent.
Larry from Texas
Love your scathing review of the Firemaple woodstove. Glad you wrote the company. Thanks for the heads up and guidance on this safety hazard.
I use a 10 ft X 10 ft oilskin tarp with 19 tie out points. It`s very versatile and has no problems in the rain. Very low maintenance. Just dont put it away wet, just like any tarp, tent or gear.
I grew up in Alaska and had many encounters with bears but I only considered 2 extremely dangerous. Once I was in the middle of the Chena river near Fairbanks fishing and a large black bear appeared on the bank maybe 25 yards away swinging it’s head. That bear became sausage. The other time at my house in Homer on the tip of the Kenai peninsula I heard a crash. A bear had torn the door off my chicken coop and was inside eating chicken food. I ran the bear off but it kept coming back. The last time I tried to run it off it laid its ears back. It’s hackles came up ant it made a woof and started clicking it’s teeth. That bear became very tasty sausage too. When in bear country my advice is to be armed because bears are unpredictable. Nice video Luke.
Thanks for sharing your stories!
This is just a side note: I absolutely LOVE Homer, AK. One of my most favorite places I’ve ever been. ❤
Ok ok nice 😂😂😂 what kind of weapon can bring a bear down? 😊😊
@@ChangeHenriquez I carried a 357 magnum and I am a very good shot. I would recommend a 44 magnum and get very good with it for close range protection. For longer range any big bore 30 caliber and above. Brown and grizzlies are big so if you are in their territory keep that in mind.
@@arnoldseay9118 thank you for this explanation 😄😄🥊®️⚡💯
Beautiful colors! Love leaves 🍁
Looks so colourful!
Like you I eat later. Beautiful place! I grew up in NC and grew up in the Piedmont. Went from mountains to coast easily. Now I live on the coast, but visit the mountains and Piedmont often. It's truly a lovely state with something for everyone!
Love my White Duck canvas tent for dry Colorado winter camping. Totally agree that they are not great for humid climates though.
Great video's I love watching your get away films to what seems like family land! Make sure you keep it in the family! lets see you cook dinner from scratch next. Will be watching for the next adventure!
Canvas tents are great when deer hunting in Montana with -20 degrees. I don't think the tent got above 40 but It protected us.
Turkeys, Crows, Black Bears, Bobcats, Fox, Skunk, and Deer!
And coyotes….that road must be old, so many different animals using it like a highway…
Thank You Luke enjoyed the Video. Hi Susie, safe Journeys LOVE and GOD Bless You all Aloha Always Sister Chrissy Honolulu Hi 🥰⚘⚘⚘🙏
I think your a good fellow me and my wife really enjoy your show
I'm always glad that your someone who bucks the trend with overlanding. I see way too many RUclipsrs with 100k plus vehicles, who preach about how you NEED to buy all this expensive gear.
I agree with you on the canvas tents.
Cute turkeys for thanksgiving!! Perfect day..thank you. Happy thanksgiving.
Great site, great food ....i am envious.
Your kettle is pretty well used and I imagine pretty difficult to clean! I'm always glad to see your newer ones!!
Great videos keep up the good work..#lovethewintercampingvideos..cheers my friend cheers..👍🏾
Amazing amount of wildlife.
I've only stayed in a canvas tent when hunting in Colorado. I like to buy a newer hot tent. Bears are my favorite animals. We have three that come buy are came when is a cinnamon another one is a blonde bear and the other is a chocolate color bear here in northern California.
I'm like that too Luke, I like to sit with my coffee, and slowly wake up, it just feels good to sip at my coffee :) I live out of town amongst trees, and I never find it boring, the same with the ocean, love to look at it, the sounds of either the forest or the ocean make me feel soothed :)
Love your videos Luke!!
Another great one!
Bravo, no building on the mountain. Best thing to do with land is keep it wild and natural.
31:03 so glad I subscribed to your channel a few years ago. I've been interested in all of them. Brings back memories of my grandpa taking me out hunting and camping as a kid/toddler. 1963 and on. Yes, I am old. Hahaha. Thanks for the memories.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love the sound of rain on a heavy canvas tent
In love with this dude haha
Love watching your video s
That little Stihl saw is a game changer for camping. Although for camping it’s a little like cheating
Every time I watch you make a cup of coffee, I have the urge to make a cup. I have had my Kodiak Canvas truck tent in torrential rains and it has never leaked. But I do need to make sure that it is 100% dry before bagging it up. Being old school, I like canvas. But not being that old, I am about to get a Hiker Squaredrop (teardrop) within the year. Getting older and less setup is my goal.
I have been in a deer stand and heard a herd of deer working their way down towards me from behind me. The excitement grew as they neared. Just when they got alongside me, I dared to look. One dang squirrel with an ear of corn in his mouth.
Stay safe and God bless.
There’s another camping youtuber that freeze-drys his vegetables and meats at home prior to going on a camping outing. He also brings with him a small container of cooking oil, and containers of spices and herbs. He puts together some awesome meals.
That night vision camera was just great seeing all the animals go by.
Coffee so important it makes the hour the day the week perfect.
HI LUKE 👋
IT LOOKS GORGEOUS THERE ❤PRETTY COOL WITH ALL THE DIFFERENT WILDLIFE IN YOUR AREA . SOMETIMES THEY'RE JUST PASSING THROUGH BUT IF THEY FEEL SAFE THEY MIGHT STAY , BUT I KNOW YOU AWARE OF THAT WHICH IS GOOD & BAD DEPENDING . ABOUT THE WOOD STOVE I WAS NOTICING THAT IN YOUR OTHER VIDEOS . BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! ENJOYED 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 JUST GOT TO MAKE SURE TO CLEAN UP THE FOOD SCRAPES , ETC . GOD BLESS YOU BOTH ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES 🙏 THANK YOU 🙏
7:21; the stove ignitor has worked first time both times I've seen you using this stove.
20:07; I've never seen such a small hand help portable electric saw as that Stihl. A really nice piece of equipment in a Truck/RV camper.
22:17; I'm surprised to see you putting together that FireMaple wood some, something you didn't like in a prior video.
I'm guessing the chocolate flavored coffee is WHAT attracted the bear.
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
Great trip! Thanks for sharing. The Saki was the hit of the show, along with the bear of course😊.
That trail cam video was so cool to see. Everybody was there! Bears, deer , turkey's bobcats, coyotes a skunk. It was like a Disney movie! Lol The best part was when the little bear went right up to the trail camera and started sniffing it. That was super adorable. Loved it. Thank you for this video😊🙏🏼
I love these truck camping adventures because you're relaxed while camping. To me that what it's all about...being out in nature, relaxed, breathing the fresh air and doing very little. I love van camping for that same reason.
We own a White Duck 18' canvas bell tent that we use for "glamping" together. The wife has a medical condition that precludes her from sleeping in a prone position. Have to use a good multi-position cot/recliner and a "normal" tent really doesn't suit our needs. Can't backpack anyway as I am afflicted with the age-related condition of "brain-says-yes-but-body says-no". I blame 20 years of Army. The tent, though, sets upon 15 minutes so it's just a matter of dragging the bag out of the truck. I tested it out for 3 weeks in November when I got it and it went through numerous heavy rain and d wind events with zero water intrusion so I give that one a thumbs up. BTW, it's a big one. 16' diameter. Thanks for all you do.
That’s absolutely good sleeping weather. Enjoyed your video. Glad the bear didn’t pay you a visit.....
Prayers for Rob and Carrie 🙏❤
Truck camping at lone Wolf mountain is my favorite videos from you. I used to really love the old viewer mail videos where you guys would try food and stuff. I really miss seeing you and Suzie do with that. It would be cool just to see you and Suzie at lone Wolf for a weekend hanging out. Cheers to you both ❤
If you’re gonna put pineapple on your pizza, it had better have SPAM also 😅
I gotta say, I follow a bunch of channels, but You TOGR have the best quality sound of them all! Kudos to you man!
Wow. He was going to camp there. His favorite spot and you come along and don't even leave a picnic basket. 😂
That is totally correct; we used to use canvas tents and as you have said the current tents are so lite and water 16:11 proof why go thru all of the trouble with canvas care; too much work. The set up of current tents is awesome
Beautiful photography - just gorgeous. The leaves are turning and falling - gorgeous. Reminds me of living in upstate New York around First Lake, Second Lake, etc. many years ago. We would get falling leaves knee deep. Just LOVE the wildlife shown in the trail cam - 15:01. Beautiful creatures large and small. God's creation is so wonderful. I see why you prefer nature compared to being out in the world with the news that we hear and see daily.
Real fantastic trail-cam footage!
Thank you.
The Lynx blew my mind.
Thanks again for awesome video! Mr. Luke ☕☕🍶
Japan is a beautiful place, quite expensive though. Tokyo, lots of hustle and bustle. The people are very nice. Another world altogether.
I really enjoyed watching the wild life and the beautiful colors of the leaves.
Thanks for sharing another great video Luke.
Loved the trail cam footage! And that’s one Big Bear! I’ve seen video of bears literally using car door handles to open them up and getting inside! 😮
I love the editing style you have and music that you use. It really adds to the ambiance of the video!
That big black bear was either beefed up for the winter or very pregnant.
Fall my absolute favorite season and I’m glad I live on the east coast to enjoy all 4 seasons.
There is no “very pregnant”. The sows deliver cubs weighing about 6 ounces while she sleeps In early winter. Wish my little ones weighed that little, well, not really. I wanted healthy babies.
Considering the chocolate coffee and the very tasty BBQ with rice I'm thinking that was a black bear too. Very good thing you were sleeping in the truck
The scenery is absolutely gorgeous!! God is good!!
My goodness, what a busy little highway for the wildlife. Really enjoyed watching them commuting back and forth to work!
Thank you for another great campout!! I remember seeing one of your much earlier videos in which your little coffeepot looked brand new! Wow, it has a nice patina on it now. That bear smelled the chocolate mocha coffee! What can resist it? The smell probably wafted for over a mile and the sensitive nose of the bear caught it! I loved the sound of the tree frogs. I grew up in south central VA. No bears but those nighttime insects and the smell of the autumn forest I remember very well.
Lots of fun seeing the trail cam footage. As a hunter here in Iowa I run 3 trail cams and get great shots of deer, Turkey, bobcats and coyote. Your big bear looks like a 400lb boar. I saw 35 black bears on my hunting trip to Alberta in Sept. While I was after moose seeing all the bears, elk and mule deer was fun.
Great Video work again.
Yes, so agree. X
He definitely caught a black bear on cam
That was big foot.
Great video, Luke! strength & honor!
I'm 57 years old. I remember camping, as a 12 or 13 year old kid, in the back of our '73 Dodge pickup with a campershell. The site was on the Misssissippi River in southern Illinois. Laying back, listening to the rain on the shell's top....swimming, seeing wildlife, fishing and catching Tom Sawyer style...grilling the catfish, bluegills (pumpkin seed fish), and crappies over an open fire. Even at the age of 12 or 13, you can't forget Marlboros and Budweiser--the rebellious Tom Sawyer stuff! Good times, I miss it. Nostalgia.
Wow....bear!! I'm Dutch, so some bunnies, deer, seagull and turkey were as wild as it gets😂.
Though wolves have been back for a few years!
Luke i just love how u can just park it in the middle of the road 🙃
Camped in a canvas tent all my life but we waterproofed it before we camped. I've been in it at the beach in a pouring rain where we had to dig a trench around the outside to move the water away from the bottom - still dry inside. There were very few of the kind of tents you are now using and the canvas ones were heavy, hard to carry and hard to store so if camping today, I'd definitely switch.
I loved the trail cam video. Thank you including that. I was surprised to see so much bear & bob-cat activity.
I have had a canvas wall tent up for nearly three years in northern Michigan. It’s completely water tight. No issues. We have to clear the snow off so it doesn’t collapse under the weight. When it rains we leave it be. Sheds rain no problem. It has no waterproofing treatment. I have been to Mt Fuji in January. No hiking then. There was very little snow so our bus took us up above the clouds. We took a lift up higher. Incredible. Too bad about people not respecting it during hiking season.
Oil skin or waxed canvas ?
Luke I was stationed in Japan for three years and absolutely loved it. It's such a beautiful country with a unique culture. You really do get the best of ancient traditions and cutting edge technology. Plus the people are simply wonderful, they are mostly pro American and they are the most polite society I've ever experienced. If I ever had to move from the US, Japan would definitely be in my top three places to consider.
I was born in Japan while we were stationed there. My little brother also joined the Air Force and was stationed there, they loved it! Japan is what EVERY country should strive to be!
40s and 50s are optimal temperatures for me, which is why I’m living in Thailand 😂😂😂😂🤷♂️
I've seen mixed reviews but I use a thermacell for my insect repellant needs. I have found that it works well expecially when you put in in the tent. Outside it seems that you need to keep it relativly close and the lower to the ground the better. I also wanted to comment on the canvas hot tents, we use a 6m canvas bell tent for our family campings and we are in PA up in the mountains. There is a seasoning that is required for the canvas. The first couple of rains there was some leaking. We used beewax mixed with oliveoil and sealed the seams after that the canvas itself swells and seals its self and no longer leaks. Most of what you said about them is correct. We went ahead and treated ours like you would make oil cloth, you would set it up and lightly spray it with linseed oil that has been thinned down. After it drys do it again and again. Do not saturate it as it will take the entire summer to dry. After that I would call it water proof and I have not had to retreat it in the last 3 years. We were aware of the issues of canvas such as the weight and dry rot but this tent was purchased to house my entire family in the event that we would have to live in it for an extended period of time, basically a emergency home in case ours was lost/destroyed (one never knows) or society breaks down for any kind of reason. As for weather, I have had weather several serious summer storms as well as a ice storm in the winter and it has held up very well and due to the shape wind does not have a large efect on its stability. I would not recommend one unless you are prepared to treat and prep the tent and afterwards its a monster on weight, size and care. That said I still enjoy it and will serve us well in the future.
Bears have to be one of the most inquisitive omnivores on the planet. Truly fascinating animals.
You got a great parade of animals on the property... loving this.
As a child, we had a Hugh green canvas tent. We were always told to not touch the ceiling or sides when it was raining because it would immediately start dripping.
It would, because I did touch it when a child so the water dripped on me all night.
be carful Luke carry the bear spray or side arm on person please ! I've been watching and meaning to say this to you !
The quiet forest. Including bears, coyotes, deer and possibly rabid bobcats. Nice video.
Magic canvas tent. We had a 4 person canvas tent caught in 4 major storms including tornado winds like a pass to the arc rain storms. One time it blew down. No problem getting wet inside no mold. To old to camp now, but those were the days in our magic tent. We gave it away and others ejoyed it. It was easy to set up. I miss those days.
I had a canvas tent 30 years ago...you're absolutely right...heavy, bulky, hard to store and spent a fortune on waterproofing chemicals and still got wet not to mention you better be close to campsite to unload because of weight
Those mosquito coils are legit, I used them my last trip into the woods. Bugs HATE them and they're not unpleasant at all to be around.
My son is a Marine and was stationed in Japan about 10 years ago, he has hiked Fuji and he just told me there are no issues. Just go July -september, the peak is already all snow
31:54 - Not an Air Beam tent. Still basically experimental because few are in regular use. Even fewer see extreme weather. A severe wind will blow them flat because the beam has little rigidity.
Super relaxing video, Luke. Thanks!
Nice one........., thanks for the share 🤙👍
There is nothing quite like hot saki on a cold winter's night. I agree pineapple in BBQ chicken or pork especially is awesome.
