  • Join us for a conversation between Craig Atkinson, best known as publisher of the Café Royal Books, and Dr Grant Scott, founder/curator of United Nations of Photography. Craig is the recent recipient of the Award for Photographic Publishing.
Craig Atkinson (b.1977 Liverpool) is a publisher, researcher and senior lecturer in Fine Art. He has taught since graduating in 1999, completing his Masters with distinction, in 2007 and becoming a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2018. He currently works at a university in the North West. Separately and unconnected to his work in education, since 2005 Atkinson has managed Café Royal Books - a publishing house he set up as an antidote to the slow, expensive, geographically-tied painting practice he had at the time. The initial publications were produced as a way of disseminating art without having to rely on the gallery system.
Dr. Grant Scott is the founder/curator of United Nations of Photography, a Senior Lecturer and Subject Co-ordinator: Photography at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, a working photographer, documentary filmmaker, BBC Radio contributor and the author of Professional Photography: The New Global Landscape Explained (Routledge 2014), The Essential Student Guide to Professional Photography (Routledge 2015), New Ways of Seeing: The Democratic Language of Photography (Routledge 2019). His film Do Not Bend: The Photographic Life of Bill Jay was first screened in 2018 www.donotbendfilm.com. He is the presenter of the A Photographic Life and In Search of Bill Jay podcasts.
