Ģreb fought Tunney five times. Many think Greb won three of the five. Tunney himself was shocked to get the nod in fight no.2. Fight 1 was 1922 fight of the year. Tunney was cut above and below both eyes and had a badly broken nose. The ref kept wiping blood from Greb's gloves. Tunney told him not to stop the fight. Seven blood soaked towels later, Tunney ĺost nearly 4 pints of blood. He made it through 15 rounds though . He collapsed on the way to the dressing room. A brave man indeed. A warrior.
There was a great old article in sports illustrated about their rivalry. After that 1st fight Greb knew he would have a hard time with Tunney. Said he had an iron will and Tunney kept coming forward. And then in their last fast Tunney was whooping on Greb and asked him not to knock him out so his friends wouldn’t read in the papers that he got KOd.
For years, I heard boxing experts say that Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest pound for pound of all time, or some would say another boxer. I never heard any of them mention Harry Greb. His record speaks for itself, to say nothing of being blind in one eye. I find it very strange that no one mentions Greb. He was an absolute legend and the greatest of all time.
Yeah theres something weird about it, almost like they just wanted jack dempsey and jack johnson in the spot light. gene tunney and jack johnson were the only guys who spoke about him and tunney even carried his coffen when he passed.
Best fighter that ever lived. ONLY Ray Robinson is close. Greb had beaten Flowers earlier and at least one of the two championship fights was a horrible decision. ( don't recall which one) He also beat Kid Norfolk in an earlier fight. And most historians believe he deserved the nod in at least one, if not two, of his later fights with Tunney. I think the legend of how dirty he was is overblown. He knew all the tricks for sure. But he was only dq'ed once. Simply the best ever. No ones resume is even close.
@@davestuddaman8127 Yeah, but that's not the one I am talking about. The consensus was that Greb clearly won the second fight. Many said it was more one sided than the first fight. The fourth fight was called a draw and most seem to think Greb won that one as well. It should be noted that nearly every newspaper said the forth fight should have went to Greb, but many fans at ringside thought Tunney had the edge. The United News wire Gave Greb 9 of 10 rounds but a draw is okay. Seems like many fans didn't agree with the papers so who really knows?
@@constantine7382i have a funny feeling the boxing commission had it out for harry considering theres absolutely no footage of him fighting where there 100% should have been
Also known as the only man to defeat Gene Tunney. In 1919 Harry Greb embarked on an unparalleled 45-0-0 campaign that year, often fighting once, twice, even three times per week, Canelo has shown not to fear bigger fighters as Harry did. so Canelo should do at least one fight every 2 months.
I got the Boxing newspaper covering one of Greg and Tunneys fight and they say Greb must have had points deducted for rough house tactics, for Tunney to have gotten the decision, ha. Mickey Walker is on the cover as welterweight champion but sadly it's falling to pieces so I had to frame it. interesting hearing off the old timers thanks
Mickey Walker n Harry Greb had a set to outside a nightclub later the same night?. So the story goes?? Not being ignorant…. Who’s this man? Knows his stuff…
The 4 Horsemen - Sam Langford, Harry Greb, Sugar Ray Robinson, and Henry Armstrong

Would love to sit down and talk to this man. He knows whats he's talking about.
Thank you Tommy.
Les Darcy and Harry Greb - now that would have been a fight for the ages!
He kicked Tunneys ass. He would have beaten Dempsey. They said Greg spared with Dempsey and outclassed him.
Pittsburgh
He died in surgery getting his eye fixed, they gave him too much anesthesia
He died from nose surgery same as one of is opponents
Harry Greb vs Roy Jones Jr at Middleweight.
Or vs James Toney.
