    Nice job! I have a 2015 kx450f I am diagnosing. Sat for a while and had real bad gas. Replaced the injector and plug and it runs fine with the "choke" on and I can start it warm with the throttle just barely turned, but as soon as you let go of the throttle it stalls. Will idle all day at 1-2% throttle. TPS should not have moved when I replaced injector and not sure if it’s a pump thing or throttle cable… I don’t have the experience to know. This video opened my eyes to what I might be in for if I do have to look at the fuel pump. Thank you!

    • @restoroosterohv
      @restoroosterohv  5 месяцев назад

      It’s certainly not a throttle cable issue. I would absolutely check the TPS values. I would certainly suggest doing a fuel pressure test. Before anything, did you turn the “choke” knob counterclockwise to raise the idle?

    • @JamieKeefer
      @JamieKeefer 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@restoroosterohv i turned it out 22 clicks based on a number I saw (and also seemed in the range it was at originally), but I saw another reference to 42 clicks. I will see if manual has any more clues, but if you think I should go higher I’ll give it a try. I am going to buy a fuel pump pressure gauge, since it seems to be really useful. Have watched a few more videos on them for multiple issues and I am thinking at least the strainer is gummed up. Thanks again, I appreciate the reply.✌🏻

      I’ll be happy to help you. First off, your compression tester may be off because 156psi is way to high and you probably wouldn’t be able to kick it. I would start by checking your valve clearances just to be sure they aren’t to tight.

    Good video. I'm diagnosing my 2015 KX450 right now. I replaced the fuel pump, but couldn't get a spark. I fixed that problem, but when I pulled the tank again a steady stream of fuel was leaking from the tube that delivers fuel to the throttle body. It didn't do that with my oem pump. Can you tell me if fuel should be leaking from that tube when you remove the tank? I haven't pressure tested it yet, but I thought the fuel would only come out if the pump was running. I'm thinking the pump I bought is defective. What do you think?
    Thanks

    • @restoroosterohv
      @restoroosterohv  4 месяца назад

      I am going to go out on a limb and say you used an aftermarket fuel pump and didn’t replace the entire module assembly. It is critical that the two o-rings be of the correct size and installed properly. Did you replace the regulator?

    • @J-dog44
      @J-dog44 4 месяца назад +1

      @@restoroosterohv Yes I used a Kemso fuel pump. I didn't replace the regulator, but I tested it and it seems to be working correctly. I'm thinking that the o-ring that fits on the bottom is where the problem might be. It seems like the original o-ring fit further down into the metal housing. When I removed it, it was completely smashed down all around the edges. But gas didn't leak out of the nozzle when I took the tank off. I used 2 of the 3 o-rings that came with the fuel pump, but that one that fits on the bottom seems a bit off . I don't know what size to use though.

    • @restoroosterohv
      @restoroosterohv  4 месяца назад +1

      @J-dog44 it seems to be a common problem with the aftermarket pump kits. The o-rings just don’t fit right and is likely your issue. Gas should not flow out of the pump assy when disconnected.

    Rooster I’m back an I’m STUMPED! Fresh top end, pro X valves, shimmed. Will not kick start cold. Have to bump start then it starts first kick. New fuel pump and regulator. Capacitor seems to be working but when I unplug the fuel pump connector from the harness and kick it I don’t see any voltage. When I prime the pump with 12 volts cold it fires right up, so something isn’t letting it get voltage to the pump while kicking. Checked for trouble codes the light does not confirm any trouble codes. 2016 kx250F, please let me know your $.02 before I waste any more money on parts.

    • @restoroosterohv
      @restoroosterohv  2 месяца назад

      Ok let me ask, when you put the new pump and regulator in, did you replace all of the o-rings and were they of the correct size? Second, did you ohm out your stator windings across each other and to ground? Are you using a DMM or analog to test for voltage? You may have to pull the spark plug, hick it hard and fast in rapid succession. If you see 7v or more, you should be good.

    • @dragin79
      @dragin79 2 месяца назад +1

      @@restoroosterohv I re used the ones from the old pump as the new kit did not come with any. I will test the stator next, it just baffles me that if I use a jumper box and give it voltage to the pump it fires up like 2 kicks cold but I can sit there and kick it forever throttle open closed choke on off no matter what and it will NOT start. But if I bump start it and literally shut it off the second it gets running I can start it right back up first kick.

    • @restoroosterohv
      @restoroosterohv  2 месяца назад

      @dragin79 if the orings are not sealing properly, it will bleed off the pressure over time and make it difficult to start when cold. When you jump it off with a 12 V battery, you pressurize the system solidly. Your best test for this would be a fuel pressure and leak down test. The tester is not that expensive and you can get it on Amazon for under $40. Secondly, if one of your stator coils is burned out, it will not be producing enough power for the pump at the low speed that kicking provides. Once the system is pressurized and the engine is running, the coils produce just enough to keep the pump running. You certainly may have other issues like valve clearances. I know you said you checked them, but after running a bit they could have changed.

      @@dragin79 Those measurements are for an ambient temp of 68 degrees with engine also at room temp. They may fluctuate slightly depending on your current temp. You want no open circuits between any of the yellows and no shorts to ground. Your tester could be off a touch as well.

    Great video. I am new to the four stroke game.I have a 2013 kx450f, and i just changed the fuel pump in it because the o-ring was bad and was leaking too much fuel into the throttle body. When i start my bike with the enricher pulled it runs and revs as it should. I can puch the enricher in, and it idles fine, but as soon as i hit the throttle, it dies. Any help or idea why this would happen? Multiple people have told me to check the valves, but i dont see why the valves would need adjusted after i just changed the fuel pump

    • @GeorgeKonduros
      @GeorgeKonduros 9 месяцев назад

      Sorry about the confusion. I changed the fuel pump. When I start the bike, I pull out the enricher/choke and kick it a couple of times, and it starts. I can rev the bike, and it seems fine. When I push the enricher/ choke in, it's still idles, but if I give it any gas, it dies.

      The "enrichment" knob just allows some filtered air to bypass the throttle plate essentially raising the idle. Did you change the entire pump module or just throw an aftermarket pump in the housing?

    Hey. Have a question about fuel injected bike. First fuel injected bike. Have a kx450 that was hard to start. But when started runs like a champ. I designed a system that would prime the fuel system with the push of a button. Hold for a few seconds and fires up first kick just about everytime. Do u see any issue with something like this. And would this be something worth creating for others with this issue?

    • @restoroosterohv
      @restoroosterohv  2 месяца назад

      There is a reason that your bike is difficult to start normally. Mine starts 1-2 kicks always hot or cold (as it should). If you don’t want to spend the time on the diagnostics to find the issue, there is no problem with a momentary pump priming circuit if that helps you however, I would encourage you or anyone else to find and repair it properly. Example, if it’s a failed stator coil not providing enough power then it is one step from leaving you stranded if another coil fails. Most of the diagnostics are easy to do with a cheap Harbor Freight dmm and a good service manual.

      @restoroosterohv I get 12v when barley kicking and 14.23 while running so I thought wasn't electrical issue. Then tested pump with battery. Pumped great. Only thing I didn't do was test the pressure of the pump. Which I thought might be just fine since it does start and run and revs out when running. No kind of drop out on the throttle. Never messed with fi bike before so this is all new. Ur knowledge and info is greatly appreciated.

    • @restoroosterohv
      @restoroosterohv  2 месяца назад

      There are many things that can cause the issue you are having but I would concentrate on the fuel system since priming it helps to start the engine. Disconnect your stator and ohm test the three coils (yellow wires) against each other and ground. Then test the Hall effect (CKP sensor) and to ground. If all is ok you could potentially have a failed capacitor (Not easy to test, usually swap with a known good unit). Next thing I would test is the fuel pressure and it’s ability to hold pressure after the engine is stopped. May have a failing O-ring or bad regulator in the pump assembly, causing the fuel pressure to bleed off. This will be noticeable if the bike is hard to start after sitting for a while, but starts immediately after shutting it down. You can pick up a fuel pressure tester off of the jungle website for around 40 bucks.
