    Must use TopTier gas, that is the main thing to avoid fuel injector problems around 75k miles. Had two Camrys that both started having problems using cheap Kroger gas around that mileage. I don’t want to risk not using premium but sometimes mix premium 93 and plus 89 gas to keep octane about 91 to save a little

      @EddieGS350  Год назад

      Ahhh yeah. These 2016-2017 GS/RX came our super sensitive from the factory. Thanks for sharing, love the Camrys. I was considering a TRD for a bit.

    I was a little late to this video, but I can personally attest that these cars are really sensitive to gas. My '14 GS 350 F SPORT AWD was filled up with 93 at BP. Totally fine, but weirdly I would just get awful mpg, like 14-15 in the city and maybe 18-19 on the highway. I took note of it but it was so close to my house I was just like fuck it, it was supposed to be 93 octane anyway. Fast-forward to this past winter, I got my car tuned with D3 performance and the car felt great, but I needed gas. So literally the day I tuned it, I went to that very BP and filled it with 93. Maybe 30 seconds after me pulling out of the gas station and heading back home, the car started running just horribly. Sounded like it was misfiring or something, turns out it was running extremely lean and couldn't even start it after I parked it in my garage, I had to get a tow truck and get it towed. They drained the fuel tank, and they said the gas was like water. In May, that very BP was foreclosed and completely torn down. Safe to say now I fill up exclusively at Costco.

      Ahhh what’s funny is that this isn’t the first time 76 did this to my car. Didn’t record it because I figured it was a fluke. I was hesitant to make this vid because everyone always says top tier gas is top tier, all the same thing. Don’t think that’s the case with certain GS years.

  • @Yeroc357
    @Yeroc357 10 месяцев назад +2

    I used Costco premium gas in my GS exclusively for over a year. Ended up gunking up the injectors and I needed an induction system cleaning after the car started bucking bad under acceleration

    • @EddieGS350
      @EddieGS350  10 месяцев назад +1

      Man so after this video I kept using Costco gas and the noise would happen with that gas too. Been using Chevron ever since then without any issues. Guess Costco is off the list too 😭

    • @Yeroc357
      @Yeroc357 10 месяцев назад

      @@EddieGS350 yeah it was REALLY weird how the car reacted. Sometimes at a stoplight it would rev up and down. The shop I took it to told me that Costco gas wont hurt as long as you use some good gas like shell, Sunoco, or chevron every 2nd or 3rd tank. This was at around 75k miles.
      It's gotta be rough in CA with gas prices at the better gas stations. I'm fortunate enough to live in an inexpensive enough area where the price delta between Costco and the other stations is negligible.

    What physical properties about the different gasolines would cause the chriping to stop? This is what will actually convince me. Are there differences in viscosity and weight betwen fuels that might explain this? Or is it really the fuel? Maybe the noise stops once the car is at temperature?

    • @EddieGS350
      @EddieGS350  2 месяца назад

      Yeah after I made this vid, I learned it has to do with the ethanol content. Most Chevron's don't add that much ethanol to their gas. The ethanol provides less lube than straight gas. Japan only allows 3% ethanol in their gas. US allows up to 10% so that might be why it wasn't caught right away from Toyota. Google "toyota engine gas chirp" there are so many threads on it.

    • @EddieGS350
      @EddieGS350  29 дней назад

      updated theory: Ethanol might not be the issue. Different brands of gas use different additives and some of those additives include friction modifiers. Some gas stations could be diluting the amount of additive they add.
      Chevron and Shell seem to be the most consistent in using their proprietary additives when mixing gas. probably because they literally market it like crazy lol. That's why some people who run E85 claim they don't get the chirp. The gas stations probably add the correct amount of additives to their E85 mixtures.
      That being said you'll prob be find for 150k+ miles w/ the chirps. Lot's of people have owned their FT86. However I have seen a small amount of fuel pumps break in GS F, 350, FT86 forums. Uncommon but I wonder if these cars ran with crickets all their life.

I do drive just around the neighbourhood very short drives in the normal mode. My previous car is is250 and with same driving I was getting 14 litres per 100k

      Ahh yeah. These cars are really bad driving around town. On the highway they can get much better mpg. I remember reading that’s the reason Toyota uses port and direct. On the highway it will use port injection to save mpg. Hope you enjoy it!! If you only drive it around town you don’t need a super efficient car anyways :)

    I own a 2019 ES350 I have been putting supreme gas but I have been reading on forums they said to put unleaded. So I tried both games but when I fill up my ES350 it says I only get 257 miles to empty. I read that the ES350 gets 400 plus miles till empty. Plus I hardly drive my ES350 I mostly drive in the city more then highway and I'm only getting 19.6 mpg I'm having second thoughts maybe I should sell it. I have been getting lots of offers I have been looking at the IS500 and the LS500 F Sport.

      I thought so too man. I tested it one more time before sending the video live to make sure I wasn’t making up bs or it was a fluke. The noise came back and I even went to a different 76. I think it only affects Rx and gs models of that year but before this vid I thought all top tier has is the same. I guess chevron really is better.

    • @misterme5451
      @misterme5451 Год назад +3

      This is certainly not BS. First, it's recommended by Lexus to use premium fuel. Secondly and more importantly, failing to do will result in a failed oxygen sensor. Ask me how do I know? I had a 2013 that I failed to put the correct fuel over the years it messed up the O2 sensor.
      Now my wife has a 2018 and I have a 2014 f sport, that we put 93 in with no issues. We only use Top Tier gas.
