Also, not sure I've ever driven a Lexus in recent years with the dimmer switch linked to both displays. You can adjust the brightness in the infotainment for both day and night modes independently. I did that _one time_ when my IS was new to me and have not touched it since.

No more V6 engine is my biggest gripe with the newer model. My boss has the V6 says it’s a big difference. Also was not this expensive (maybe inflation effects this)

    • @faeinthebay

The problem is that the V6 was inefficient. My old man has one and it can't get more than 20mpg combined, and he's a pretty normal driver. Its character isn't that great either, nothing like a Honda NA V6 or the Hyundai 3.8. Considering this is a mall crawler SUV, a hybrid is probably best.

Very nice POV setup. Well thought out. I drove 500h 3 days ago and the chassis is really convincing. Also the regular gearbox is sweet feeling. I have bought RX f sport 2022. My wife has the 2021 Luxury. So the only thing I observe as negative is the 4cylinder dron note. With the v6 the engine act similar but the tone is a different planet. It's a reason I have left RAV 4 and replaced it with my 450h F sport (I was envious every time I drove my wife car :-). Fuel efficiency of RX450h is some 5-7mpg worse than the new gen 350h. The only one I'd consider is 500h but then fuel economy is even worse than 450 h '22 and really, if I wanted a dynamic car I'd get X6 which is similar price like 500h - at least here in EU.

I tried Mazda CX-5 signature, Honda CRV Touring (Sport?) and Lexus RX.
The seat is the biggest difference. Lexus is the only one without a pressure point for me.
CX-5 actually comes pretty close in many aspects, but it's not as quiet, and the stitching is quite as uniformed.
CRV is quite a bit more behind, in the feel of plastic and headliners. But it's quiet and drive train is really smooth.
If you find CX5 and CRV's seats to be comfortable, they are both quite great considering the price. But I really can't compromise on seat comfort and they just don't work for me.

The thing is with the new hybrid system, powerful electric motors and bigger batteries the old v6 is not required anymore. It'd be stalling the vehicle with higher gas consumption and weight. In the current hybrid system electric motors are always engaged, even at highway speeds and you never loose the electric power because the engine keeps the battery charged (the new 450h phew is different and after you deploy the battery, you get the power of 350h). I have '18 rx350L with the v6 and while I love the engine for its smoothness, I won't miss it if it saves me 5-6l/100km, that's significant for a long term ownership. I was always against 4-bangers but seeing my dad's car in europe (2.0 tfsi), how quick it is, how smooth and refined the engine is, I don't think you need anything else, unless it's a bigger vehicle with a non-hybrid system (like my current lexus). 4-bangers are not noisy and slow anymore.

My main complaint is the loss of the luxurious wood that my 2022 RX350L luxury has. I LOVE my slick beautiful wood steering wheel! The 2023 has only partial wood on the steering wheel, and all I’ve seen is open pore wood that looks much cheaper. I hope they bring back a bit more luxury in the interior, especially the wood, before I buy another. The way you articulated how annoying the steering wheel controls are really resonated about how frustrating something so simple can be. HOPEFULLY, because this is pre-production, you can blind press what you know the key would be and it would work as expected. Maybe with that fix it might actually become a good system. It’s a shame one of those most important ergonomic points has to take away from an otherwise superb vehicle. Great improvements overall except: the droning, wheezing i4 turbo engine, and the ridiculous price tag for what you get (or lack thereof). Debated heavily over this and the new mdx, and went with the latter. I almost wish they'd combine the two + add the older v6 toyota hybrid engine = beautiful monster of a chimera vehicle 😂😂😂

When I first saw the new grill design, I was like...yeesh...they've made it worse than the previous year. Haven't seen it in person yet, but from different videos, it's definitely grown on me. Moral of the story, just trust Lexus/Toyota...they know what they're doing! 😜 Two more things, thank you for using the same songs to test the audio. It allows us, without the benefit of being in the cars ourselves, to hear quality differences. Lastly, I bought those songs before I picked up my IS 500 Premium so I could test the audio myself. It sounds great in your video, but I'm happy to say the ML system is even better in person. Nice review, well done.

The side and rear seat are exactly the same as the old. The dashboard space is similar to the old one too that's why you got that odd empty space behind the monitor. I would say they re-used the basic structure of the old RX and replace everything from the NX and Prius. So technically it is not a redesign except the new platform. Car designers are pretty lazy nowadays.

The base is a 12 speaker, not 14. The base is not bad but the ML is appreciatively better than the base, even for non-audiophiles. If you're paying for 500h I think you should opt for the upgrade. They have availability issues with ML due to component shortages though.
