Can you do a video of when Jawa sued Honda for patent infringement (plagiarism) regarding the semi-automatic clutch on the Honda Cub?? It happened in 1967 and is referred to as "The Case of the Clutch", in motorcycling history. Honda put their hands up, apologised and settled out of court. Jawa gave Honda licence to use the semi-automatic clutch in return for royalties on sales of all Honda bikes that used the system.
Wow I didn't knew the ties between these two manufacturers and some unfortunate historic events were so convoluted. Thanks for this historical documentary quality stuff.
This is one of your most brilliant videos, we really notice how your heart is in it. Also at 2:00, I had never ever seen this "Ur-Tatra", which looks so modern for 1931 (there were still Ford Model T's around). But hey, Tatra and Saab are not the only charismatic automakers around. There are more in Italy (especially), France and England.
Speaking as a long-time fan and follower, I found this video to be well-researched, well-presented and informative. I have also been a fan of Volkwagens and Porsches for many years and I never knew about the relationship to Tatras. In fact I would not have known about those amazing Tatras (for example those incredible air-cooled V8s) if not for your videos. Please keep them coming!
One thing is how they look from the outside, but the real shock to see the chassis and the engine. Next shock is to find out you're looking at 1920' product. So confident and quality made piece of technology from a time we thought the cars were clunky fragile boxes. I've been to many technical museums around the world, but the only Tatras left a deep and long lasting impression on me. Booth the cars and trucks are so impressive.
I remember reading an article that stated the Tatra V8 became something of an 'officer killer' among the German forces, commandeered & driven at speed by cocky & inexperienced 'Luger-louts', it's a wonder any survived! : )
I did fitted a piece of ply wood under the front bumper of my 69 vw. She can instantly really corners and handle very well. Pinned my speedo needle on the Toronto 401 flats. Our Canadian Bonneville autobahn. Cheers
During the war, Tatra 87 killed more nazi officers than died in early days of war. Thus it was banned for german military. The car was too heavy, with weight on the back, and was able to reach 160km/h on dirtroads. Not really great breaks at the time, and thin tires, plus when turning the back continued straight. So driver had to be skilled, to never turn in high speeds. But german officers were drunk on power and new to the confiscated cars, wrapping them around trees. During occupation, the Tatra company was forced to produce only trucks for military. if you wonder how germany managed to execute blitzkrieg, czechoslovak military was the only one fully mechanised (no horses) at the 1938. All these trucks plus those produced were used to sustain the blitzkrieg operations in both fronts. Communists basicaly kept the same rules for tatra with their planned economy, they made Škoda into main automobile producer, and Tatra into heavy truck producer. Tatra was allowed to produce only luxury vehicles for communist elite.
Josef Ganz also desgned a very similar series of cars in the 1920s. He worked at Zündapp before they were contracted to build the early Porsches. He fits in to this story too but my memory of his story is rough.

I often wondered if it was just coincidence that Ferdinand Porsche decided to make a rear engine air cooled car also....? Now I know the story how Porsche basically poached tetra design, then basically took Tetra design Ideas, and elaborated on it...! Great Video....!!!
The reality was that the SS confiscated all the larger Tatra vehicles they could find, but drove them recklessly! Just a case of karma for the officers driving Tatras like they'd stolen them (well they had, hadn't they)!
Another very fine feature from you like the video on Saab. Infact this information is new to me. Having red so many Auto books and Magazines i didn't know the History of Porsche's connection with Tatra. Great 👍
A great article, thank you, but please remember the rest of the team behind the Tatra 87 and 97. Erich Ubelacker (I'm afraid that I can't find umlauts on this keyboard for the U) was integral to the design and development of every Tatra ending with a 7. His lucky number in the nomenclature of the 57, 77, etc until the Austrian Corporal ruined the 1930's for everyone.

Visio Racer, you've done yourself proud here! This is at least as interesting as your Saab video and a real delight to watch. Ironically, my favorite Porsche is the 928, with a front V8, more like a German Corvette than a 356 or 911. My questionable taste gets me every time...
And today's winner of Porsche Super Cup at Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria (Österreich) was Larry ten Voorde (Team GP Elite), his second victory of the year in round two. Round three (next race) is same time, same place (re-named Styrian GP, German: Steiermark). Dietrich Mateschitz is really pouring in a lot of funds at this circuit: two MotoGP races last and this year. Two F1 races this year and two for Porsche Super Cup!

What about making a video of the history of the Lamborghini V12 engine from the 350GT to the Murcialago? After all, it's the same block isn't it? What about the story of Ferrari vs Lamborghini and the reason that started? I'm not trying to put you or your content down, just offering some suggestions which I would find interesting...
