    After the Second World War, two Czech authors traveled around Africa and Argentina in a Tarta 87. The authors Jiří Hanzelka and Miroslav Zikmund wrote about their events in 1947/1948. I read the book about Africa that belongs to my father. There were interesting descriptions of what regional events look like after the war in Africa, how Tatra technology fared in the scorching heat on the African continent and how the people lived there.

    Hello Peter Mullin;
    Thanks for the link and information on the Mullin Museum feature article, the Tatra 87.
    I know the car: I was in the back seat on the test drive in Germany when Jack Braam Ruben was doing a test drive to check out the car for Peter Mullin. The turn indicator switch is in the middle of the dash. The owner at the time, on the test drive sitting in the front passenger seat, had helped Jack by turning on the right turn indicator, we made the right hand turn at the last intersection. The owner forgot to cancel the blinking turn indicator light, we continued on.......until the next intersection....and a lady on the right side intersection thought we were about to make a right hand turn (Jack had no intention of making a turn, and did not know those lights were still blinking). The lady pulls out in front of Jack!! Jack is quick...!!.... still running along at a full pace, he immediately turns the steering wheel to the left to avoid a an immanent collision, and continues into the grass field on the left, just missing the lady in here large vehicle, just coming to a stop before a huge obstacle on the side of the road. I'm dying in the back seat, seeing this all play out....The lady stops.... and asks why we did not make that right hand turn, as indicated by our right turn blinkers......The owner forgot to cancel the turn indicator switch of the earlier intersection. He is pale faced, as we all could have been in a bad, bad collision....which would have cancelled the sale that day!

      @@Blackandwhite0007 Hello Danny;
      Thanks for the note this morning: Yes, you can use the story as you wish. Jack Braam Ruben also saw the story and remembers it well. We ALL almost died because of that 'funny' little switch in the middle of the dash. Email address here in Novato is pete33213321@verizon.net. Yours, Peter irlenborn

    Found these "Docent Tours" via the one on the Voisin C25 Aérodyne. Thanks to the Mullin Museum for these knowledgeable, interesting and thorough introductions.

    Beautiful car. I'm a big fan of Czech engineering. As some wit quipped, it's like German engineering, but without the money. Sadly I can't afford a Tatra, but I own two Jawas and a CZ motocycle.

      While filming this episode I was amazed at the quality of this car. The air-cooled V8 engine castings are as nice as any Porsche I've ever seen. Superb!

      You can still buy weapons - CZ-75 pistol, CZ vz. 58 light machinegun, CZ vz. 61 Scorpion. There are even famous antics from between the world war, which country sells machineguns to 26 other?
      I do not know your budget, but Tatra is still making trucks. Get a firetruck. Or buy old truck, or even military truck. Armyshop will sell these for about 20 000 dollars.

    they strong...because there was still no technology to make thinner steel plates as 1mm , ..or better to say thez did not knew yet how to overcome the strain hardening of the steel during rolling.

    There is no gas heater in the front, it is oil cooler for the engine. Tatra 87 has the same system as Porsche, the air is heating around exhaust pipes and a fan blows it into interier.

      Porsche was born and raised in Czechoslovakia as an adult he joined nazi party and then he ditched his Czechoslovakian citizenship for German... and in the same time he got zero problems with riping off Czechoslovak Tatra technology and ideas... heh

    Whatever one may say about this car, and it's restoration choices (good or bad), one thing is for certain, it is NOT a 1938 model. In spite of the 1938 Ringhoffer build tag (purchase able on ebay.de.), this car has none of the features associated with the first series (low production) cars of 1938. There is no little beady light on the tail fin, no flush tail lights, no large speedo on the dash, no bolt on headlight buckets, no right hand drive (though it could possibly be for the left hand drive German market)., a newer Jikov carb., newer steering column, and other elements pointing to a "pre war" body of 1839-41 rebuilt or used just after the war . This would explain the later gauges and dash "ephemera" (my memory tells me that the 46089 would signify a 1940 build date, but that is something easily checked with the Tatra factory who keeps those records). It's a great car, don't spoil it by making up stories... And as, someone has already pointed out the gas fired under seat heater was not part of this cars history but rather a feature on the T603. As everyone knows, Jay Leno has one of these... his is also a nice car, but NOT a 1938, though he says so. too.

    The radiator in the front is an oil radiator.
