That black oring on the spool pin is actually part of the Silent Tune system Shimano uses, it is not used as a sealing gasket, it is there to hinder the spool pin from hitting something when spinning, and thus, make the reel more silent.
Just put my Tranx 151hg to work past couple days, and I'm impressed. Out casts my Mgl's and Dcs.

If you look up spool bearing pin removers there are plenty of helpful tools to get that bearing pin out on those reels. A lot easier than I expected! saves a lot of time instead of sending it to shimano 👌🏻

Was a fan of Lews but been struggling with parts and servicing. Decided to make the change to Shimano. Was looking at both of these reels for my first buy. I service my reels often so saltwater advantage the tranx gives doesn’t matter to much to me. My question is which one cast further and better with 1/16 to 1/8 lures.
Casting a free line live shrimp??? Or a mudminnow ??? Slow retrieving???
How's the MGL holding up? Any problems with saltwater seeping in? Just picked one up and trying to decide if i should just trade up to a tranx.
