Check out the Dark Side of the Ring episode of the Von Erichs. There's one more brother that wasn't in the film. The youngest Chris Von Erich also killed himself because he wasn't his brothers, which he idolized.

As a wrestling fan for over 30 years, I can tell you that as much as I enjoyed the movie and the performances, the Academy has historically looked down on the pro wrestling industry, regardless of whether or not we think Zac Efron deserves it. But, I guess we'll see.

I saw this movie during the holidays when I turned 21 and it was an awesome tragic story.

Good video! There's a major misconception that it's just a wrestling movie. Not even close.

I’ve watched quite a few of these reviews for the iron claw and everyone keeps saying the same thing and that is they wanted the movie to go even deeper, trust me you don’t want that. From what I’ve heard in the reviews the movie gives you just enough and if it went as deep as it could have this movie would’ve came with a warning label because the story is just that depressing

Even with the story that they did tell in this film, the film was released as “Unrated”, because of the violence, gore, and drug use in the film. It may have gotten an “NC-17” rating if they went to Motion Picture Association, Inc. for a rating for the movie.

      Gore?

That is what I read on the Internet. I don’t know if it is from Kerry Von Erich’s motorcycle accident, or if it is from one or more of the suicides in this movie. Perhaps they may be referring to bloodshed as “gore”, especially if a lot of bloodshed took place during a match.
There is a match depicted in the film between Fritz Von Erich and The Original Sheik. Knowing both of these wrestlers for bloodshed in the ring, it has me very concerned. Will the ring in that match look like a murder scene at the end of it? I do not know.

This has nothing to do with WWE, then known as the WWWF (World Wide Wrestling Federation) and later WWF after Vince Jr took over when his dad died. This the NWA (National Wrestling Aliance) which was by far the biggest governing body of Pro Wrestling the world over. They had 52 Promotions across the map, but only one World Heavyweight Champion. That made the title special. It wasn't a company title it was thee World Championship. They also had one Jr Heavyweight and Woman's World Champion. In-fact, even the WWWF was a member of the NWA until about the middle of 1983. The NWA Promotion in Texas was called World Class Championship Wrestling and it was owned by Fritz Von Erich. The Von Erichs were also very big in Missouri which was the headquarters of the NWA. They worked Mid-South, Pacific Northwest, Central States, Houston, Hawaii and Florida. Everywhere they went they were over big, including in Japan.
