    Whether or not it was too much tragedy, the movie should have had Chris in it. It's tragic enough already with the deaths of all of the brothers except Kevin.

    The omissions I read from Brian Solomon's review were Chris's entire absence and almost every scene of Lance (MJF) being cut. Since I guess it mainly focuses on the patriarch and his four most popular sons, then it's to be expected.
    Great review without revealing too much. The final push I needed to decide to see it in the theater.

    • @JOfnT
      @JOfnT 7 месяцев назад +1

      It’s especially tragic because he was the youngest of them all too, and arguably the ultimate display of neglect and greed by Fritz. By all accounts, Chris just wasn’t physically capable of wrestling. A real father, especially one who has seen tragedy befall 2 of his sons already, would’ve put his foot down. Fritz should’ve kept Chris safe from the pain of hurting himself in the ring, and of the disappointment of not being able to be a wrestler. He should’ve told him every single day that even if he wasn’t like his brothers, it wasn’t his fault and they all still loved him. But he didn’t, he let Chris get in the ring and get hurt, and that just made everything worse for all the family.

    In the poster the brothers are holding the NWA World six man tag team title belts but those are not the actual belts they had back then, that was probably to make them look diferent because the actual belts had the exact model of the NWA World tite, they probably change it so it couldnt look confusing for the casual audience when Kerry defeats Ric Flair to become World Champion in the David Von Erich memorial show.

  • @Sisyphusquit
    @Sisyphusquit 7 месяцев назад

    Dave, it seems your reply to me was removed. But here is my response. Just my take, nothing personal. It's just a movie HOWEVER...
    I'd say that they ignored important aspects to a huge extent. I saw Kerry snort once, I saw one steroid shot. I didn't see any real abuse or show how much of an issue the drugs were. They took a brush and painted a very thin coat. Ignoring the substance abuse of the brothers, Kerry's arrests and Fritz's ability to cover it up would have made this much more compelling. They made it look like Kerry's demise was due to being cut from WWF, but ignored why he was being released and that he was facing jail time as well.
    Also, an early scene shows them planning out the moves before a tag match with Brody. Then Kevin talks about the arrangements of matches to his soon-to-be wife. But later they have scenes in the movie that seem to try and maintain kayfabe. Fritz training one of them on how to apply more pressure on the claw, as if it's all real. Kevin not letting go of a claw and getting DQ'd in a match with dad and Kerry asking him "what happened" as if he lost control in a match he should have won. Just silly
    This could have been so much better. Fritz's ego and manipulation, faking a heart attack on Christmas, getting Kerry the belt and a big merch development just 3 months after David's death. They had the opportunity to show Mike getting back into the ring when he had no business being there. This would have really placed context to his death and made it more moving I know the story is long with many characters but IMHO it was timid with the truth. Fritz's continual use of family tragedy to market WCCW is something that could have been used.
    The brothers had tragic stories and all the emotion we got was a jacked up Efron looking lost and sad.

    Haven't seen the movie, yet. I'm going to see it with my fiance on Christmas Day. I grew up watching the Von Erichs and know the story full well. 6:26 I get what they are saying. But it wasn't about accuracy for me. Chris feeling inadequate compared to his brothers is what led to his passing; and leaving him out to reduce the runtime seems so Big Hollywood. It's not what I've come to expect of A24.
    Just knowing that Lance "Von Erich" was in this movie more than Chris Von Erich breaks my heart.

    I thought this movie was horrible. It ignored the drugs, booze, roids, and arrests. It was an afterschool special. Hardly any character development. I was looking forward to the deaths to get the movie overwith.
    They made great efforts to recreate real wrestling moments with the freebirds and a terrible ric flair actor, so yes it is fair complain about characters missing the mark on looking like the real thing. Kevin being so huge compared to a smaller kerry was distracting.

    • @DaveKnowsWrestling
      @DaveKnowsWrestling  7 месяцев назад +1

      They didn't ignore any of that. Were you in the bathroom for those scenes? And I get that it's valid that people are entitled to their own opinion and the looks thing matters a lot to some people. But for me, that's always been a surface detail. As I said, I know some people can't get past it, and it seems you are one of them

    • @Sisyphusquit
      @Sisyphusquit 7 месяцев назад

      @@DaveKnowsWrestling they showed a little partying but did not suggest addicton. Kerry's struggles was brought down to a single phone call and trouble returning with his new foot. Wasn't Kerry deep into addiction, about to be sent to jail, and losing his marriage at the time? They made Kevin look like a hurt little boy scout. All Efron did was look sad and stare into space. They failed to show how troubled the boys were and how manipulative Fritz was.
      It's as if they want to show the "curse" was the cause of tragedy and not the parenting, manipulation by Fritz, , enabling, entitlement, or the drugs and alcohol that led to tragedy.
      Kevin's drug use, almost dying in the ring, contemplating suicide, Kerry's airport arrest ...none of it shown
